Are any Grans like me?

Hello, I'm new to Gransnet (didn't even know it existed until I came upon it by accident!). I had a 19 year old Facebook account where I kept up with friends and family, shared pics, was part of many communities etc. Then found myself an innocent victim of Meta's AI ban and suddenly lost my account which left me feeling little like I'd been bereaved! Nothing else is really like it and stumbled upon this site while trawling the net.
Anyway I'm 68 and have always been on the active side, and probably wouldn't describe myself as a 'normal' Nan (whatever that is 🤣). I love animals and have had many in my life - I used to have dogs, horses, pigs, sheep and still have a couple of dogs and small flock of sheep (most of them are aged - I'm the only mad person around here who keeps livestock as pets). I've always done the DIY at home, maintained the fields, cut hedges and still do even though it's getting a lot harder now I have arthritic hands and hips are a bit creaky.
I learned to ride a motorbike at 53, can drive a tractor, digger, lorry, shear my own sheep. I go camping with my dog and made a wooden bed for my car. I do have a hubby but he likes to stay at home while I go off adventuring!
Oh and I have six grandkids. My twin grandsons say that when they tell their schoolfriend what I do, no-one believes them lol. That's me in a nutshell

Hello Nannyd0g I'm 74. I only have four grandchildren but I am a 5th dan (5th level black belt) in Shotokan karate and will try for 6th dan next year. I teach and train five times a week.

😳 I wouldn’t want to meet you up a dark alley 🤣

Welcome indeed NannyDog from another woofo- lover & pillion- rider of motorbikes. I'm sure you'll soon be addidicted to your daily dose of Gransnet; its better than a tonic or even a shot gin, for sure. 🙃

Hi NannydOg. I have 3 Shropshire sheep, 2 Highland ponies, two barn cats, a house cat and a border collie. I also grow my own flowers for cutting and make pots (mainly vases for my flowers). Since my retirement I have been busy planting trees and hedges and have also established an orchard. I am working towards creating a forest garden and my latest project was to plant a fruiting hedge. Since my husband was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease I have become responsible for all the mowing, hedging etc. and at times feel quite overwhelmed but am equipping myself with all the tools I need to manage it myself. It is my haven and the animals (especially the sheep) always make me smile.

Welcome.

Technically I'm not a gran either not having my own children, but have two stepdaughters who both have 5 children most who are full adults now, with multiple children of their own. I don't know all of them physically but do see two step-granddaughters and their children (one each) on a reasonably regular basis - so I am a step-gran and step-great gran.

I also have via my friend more - he has 3 children all adults, one has 2 girls but he doesn't see them very often, and one who has 4 girls (one 20, and three under 4 - the youngest only about 8 weeks old) - the two little ones call me Nanna as I've known them all their lives.

Welcome, you are going to find a huge variety of grans here. Hang around and read a wide range of threads. One moment a bit of a tumultuous News and Politics, another so much kindness on a bereavement or Estrangement thread: lots of fun and games, gardening, food, health sharing and advice.

Most certainly animal lovers in all shapes and sizes: those who lead a quiet life at home out of choice or necessity, to those who are adventurous in lots of respects.

Wow thanks for all your replies - what a wonderful and eclectic bunch you are! I'd like to reply to all but there are too many lol. In answer to some, I have no idea why I lost my Facebook account - I was completely innocent and used it for keeping up with family and my many friends from all different walks of life who I've known for decades (even before FB). Apparently this has been happening a lot globally since it is all controlled by AI and people get flagged for doing pretty much nothing 🙁. It was awful to lose all that in one fell swoop.
Anyway you sound like a chatty lot and hopefully won't get too bored with my life updates every now and again 🙈 while I find my way around the site.
One last thing, it is so good to read posts where most people write properly and can construct actual sentences! 🤣

Well we try…

There are some of us whose fingers don’t work too well or are upset and spelling and grammar get mixed up;

Or on mobiles:

but on the whole yes of course you are right, people take time and thought over posts.

Another point is:

It’s a good idea to space paragraphs out, just as I have done in an OTT way:

It makes for easier reading than large chunks of text xx
