Harriet Sperling's Wedding Dress

I think that her outfit, although beautifully made, was inappropriate for a divorced person of 46 and who has a child. She did look striking but the outfit was not really suitable for someone approaching middle age.

They both looked lovely and very happy. A lot of judgemental and very old fashioned views on here. 🙄

The rule disallowing divorcees from remarrying in church was lifted in 2002. It is now quite the norm with no dispensation needed.

I thought she looked OK, very average dress really.

There were photos of guests and there was one middle aged woman who looked a fright. She was wearing a very short yellow lace dress with a big blue hat. Her legs were just not right for a mini dress.

Kate, as always, looked stunning. Princess Anne looked sunny and bright as mother of the groom but spoiled the effect by wearing black shoes and a black handbag.

I think she's absolutely gorgeous and looks years younger than her 46 years.

The dress and veil are utterly stunning; she's fully clothed, not half naked as a lot of wedding dresses are designed; she looks poised, elegant, and graceful.

And apparently she's a children's NHS nurse, so it's good that Peter chose someone as his wife who is normal, not someone snooty. And he is very handsome and incredibly nice.

I hope they have a long and happy marriage.

Average dress!! Oh dear not quite up to scratch then? Princess Anne and her black shoes and handbag, clearly disgraceful!! It was a private wedding and absolutely nothing to do with the public. They ALL looked great and happy. How they dressed was up to them and not for us to criticise. Does it really matter?!

It’s the brides day isn’t it and she looked lovely as all brides do.
What I don’t understand though us why Charles and Camilla were not allowed to be married in church when Peter and Harriet, Harry and Megan were!

^The king didn’t remarry in church, he had a civil ceremony^

Followed by a church blessing, which has been allowed for some time, I think.

The Queen’s wedding outfit was fabulous.

I suppose Sadgranma because times and regulations change?

Maremia Tue 09-Jun-26 10:59:36

Yes JenniferEccles, the 1970's, that neckline!

JenniferEccles Tue 09-Jun-26 12:24:58

I much prefer that style of dress to the off-the-shoulders type frequently worn by so-called young celebrities.

Anyway, as always, it’s the bride’s choice, but inevitably some will approve, others not.

I think they could have married in church, but decided not to because of being Supreme Governor of CofE, (well, the late Queen was, and Charles would be when he became King).

They wanted the civil ceremony to take place at Windsor Castle, but that meant any Tom, Dick or Harry would then be able to marry there, which they didn’t want to happen.

So they ended up with a church blessing after a civil ceremony at the Guildhall.

And it all looked to go off splendidly, and they seem happy together after 20 odd years, which is all that matters in the end, isn’t it?

Bit of an over reaction there! The OP gave her opinion and presumably expected replies. Seems whatever I post somebody has to make a sarcastic reply. You probably noticed I did say Kate looked good.

Calendargirl Tue 09-Jun-26 13:11:22

I didn’t notice that Princess Anne’s shoes and bag were black, but I thought her gloves were navy.

I know years ago all your accessories had to match, but I think nowadays mix-and-matching is the done thing.

I don’t suppose HRH gives a stuff what anyone else thinks to her outfits.

Marvellous way to be.

😂

Gosh, I thought she looked lovely and understated! Perfect for a second wedding

Usedtobeblonde Tue 09-Jun-26 13:47:38

She looked lovely but understated is the last word I would use to describe her look.

Casdon Tue 09-Jun-26 13:52:04

Dua Lipa got married at the weekend, she wore a leather wedding dress, and hired out multiple historic venues and city squares in Palermo. Her wedding went on for three days! That’s what I’d call not understated.

knspol Tue 09-Jun-26 13:59:30

So much criticism on here, why? I glanced at the photos thought they looked nice but it's their wedding they can wear whatever they like so why bother to make such disparaging comments?

Missiseff Tue 09-Jun-26 14:02:09

I thought the dress was awful, but she's not married Peter before so doesn't matter if she wore a wedding dress

NannaFirework Tue 09-Jun-26 14:06:29

They looked so happy, she looked amazing 🥰

HelterSkelter1 Tue 09-Jun-26 14:16:56

I expect they had a great party afterwards. Shoes off. Hair let down. Loads of champagne, dancing and laughing. They all looked very happy.

I wonder how many get turned down? Actually I don’t think the Cof E as our established church should turn anyone away from a church wedding if that’s what they want. And I include same sex couples in that. If a couple are legally free to marry each other, the C of E should marry them.

Why should a Church of England vicar who believes that the Bible is the word of God and that it says that gay sex is sin (it does*) be forced to violate their conscience and marry a same-sex couple in church?

There are plenty of other options for getting married, including churches of other denominations.

*Examples:

“For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him … They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshipped and served created things rather than the Creator…

Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural sexual relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed shameful acts with other men”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭1‬:‭21‬, ‭25‬-‭27‬ ‭NIV UK‬‬

“… do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor men who have sex with men nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.”
‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭6‬:‭9‬-‭10‬ ‭NIV UK‬‬

How very old fashioned. I thought she looked stunning.

Mouse Tue 09-Jun-26 14:24:44

‘Suitable’ is whatever you look good in and feel beautiful wearing. I thought she looked stunning.

Summerlove Tue 09-Jun-26 15:09:52

I’m honestly surprised how many think that the bride dress was wrong haven’t said anything about the fact that the Princess of Wales was wearing a cream dress. Last I heard, wearing a cream dress as a guest was more of a faux pas than a second time bride wearing white.

Calendargirl Tue 09-Jun-26 15:15:57

I didn’t think Catherine’s dress was cream, I would have described it as ‘cafe au lait’, in other words, a pale coffee colour.
