There's something very sad and unsettling about this whole situation.

I still miss Allira and probably just read more than post. I don't post very often anyway but many times I agreed with her views.

So sorry at the outcome. I don't recognise Allira in the GNHQ explanation either.

I find it hard to imagine that posters would make offensive remarks to others especially their friends in real life when they disagree, so why do it online under the cloak of anonymity ?

I haven’t seen anything of the sort to cause offence from Allira but I rarely go on N and P threads.
In any case I wouldn’t report someone who was rude. They show themselves up for all to see.
I hope there is a way for Allira to return.

I think this is going to put a lot of people off posting - or at least make them think twice about what they do post, for fear of 'offending' someone, getting reported and then banned. We are in danger of losing good, sensible posters because of this, which is a real shame.

I took one look at the boats thread and thought there is no way I am going on there, I don't go on the Trump threads if I can avoid it although sometimes I weaken!

This has left a nasty taste in my mouth and strengthened my resolve to not engage with some posters especially on the N & P threads.

Well I'm another one who doesn't recognise Allira from AnnieGransnet's post, but then again like so many on these threads I'm just a stupid old woman who wouldn't recognise an offensive post if it jumped up and kicked me in the teeth. Us old dears with our feeble, easily confused minds, who can't recognise our own hands in front of our faces just need to be really grateful wiser folk are looking out for us!

And this post is a perfect example. These people who don’t get it don’t know what they are missing.
I’m reminded of the scene in The Good Life where Margo was crying. When asked what was wrong she replied i haven’t got a sense of humour 😂
On a serious note I don’t think it’s going to be much in evidence from now on and if you have the temerity to post in that vein it’s room 101 for you.

GNs response makes me want to make deliberately offensive and unpleasant posts just to see how far I could go!

I'm terribly disappointed with the outcome I don't recognise the person portrayed in how the final decision was couched. I will miss Allira's presence on GN in so many areas. I think her good nature was always evident, as was her sense of humuor. GN has lost someone very special

Are they prolific in Australia nanna8? I saw so many wild callistemon in San Diego, California where my son lived. When I returned home I bought and planted one, but it hated my soil and died. They are a beautiful plant.

Yes, the Callistemons are everywhere, known as bottlebrushes to us. We have a few in our yard and I love the flowers . I have a couple of reds and a pink. Very hardy ( they’d want to be for me !)

I support her reinstatement 100%. I think that ship's sailed nanna. From the scant replies we've had GN have no intention of righting the wrong that's been done, Allira is the sacrificial lamb and we should all just shut up and go back as if this abomination never happened.

I sincerely think Allira has been confused with another poster. I have been here a fair while, too and have never seen anything like the posts she is accused of. Maybe a few feisty comments, that’s all. Nothing nasty. Is it because her politics sometimes differ from the majority ? I really hope not. I support her reinstatement 100%. I actually liked her first name , Callistemon, best, being Aussie and all.

Please let’s call out the real goady ones but don’t report them, let their posts stand for all to see.

That's the tack many of us have taken in the past which lets these posters remain with their toxicity. Meanwhile they report everything and anything they can which results in a poster like Allira getting a lifetime ban. Time for justice and equity, call them all out, every single one. Report, report, report!
Allira deserved fairness, equity, justice, she got none of these while her accuser/s get to continue despite their own transgressions.

Just catching up. Bloody ridiculous decision. Allira has always come across as fun, interesting, kind, intelligent and so much more, all good.
I have always felt a bit miffed with those posters who’ve been on GN for a long time saying how much it’s changed, how it used to be fun, how it was once more interesting. I always felt this was insulting to newer posters but now I’m beginning to wonder if they have a point.
Of course lots of lovely, interesting, passionate and witty people have joined more recently but there also seem to be quite a few who seem to deliberately stir up trouble or deliberately take offence at minor disagreement then report at the drop of a hat which spoils it for everyone else.

Is there any chance that Allira has been confused with someone of a similar name.

Exactly what I thought from the start. I changed my username after seeing another poster with exactly the same name as mine bar a digit at the end of it. I've since seen that poster on GN a number of times and have been caught out by them thinking that I didn't write or remember writing those posts. So, for what it's worth, it shows how easy mistakes could be made and possibly it's this in Allira's case.
Allira, I hope you at least can take some comfort knowing how well thought of you are on here.

So sorry to read AnnieGN's post. Like so many others here, I can't equate what she said to the posting style of Allira.

We are all supposed to be grown ups, capable of having strong opinions, of fundamentally disagreeing with each other without ever losing our common humanity and sense of what is "right". And nothing feels right about this.

I've felt, often in recent years, that the world is increasingly populated by folk who enjoy looking for reasons to be offended and it feels as if Allira has been shafted by one or a group of such people. It's desperately sad and it could happen to any of us.

Farewell, Allira. You deserve better.
