Molly why on earth wouldn’t you be here tomorrow? I do think maybe a reality check might not be a bad idea. I called a poster disingenuous and was deleted and I’m still here so anything is possible ( but I do have a bestie in GNHQ ) ( Joke)

That’s such a good question Tuliptree.

The answer is as I explained earlier.
It’s because, as has been said on more than one occasion, if there’s no sign of the post that another poster may have taken offence at and reported and no evidence of who the reporter(s) are, then who knows if a post might be their last.

Annie get your gun ? I remember getting told off early on for referring to ‘illegal immigrants’ where I nearly left because I didn’t want to be associated with a bunch of nutters. It was around the time Australia started to turn the boats back and no one thought twice about what was obviously not pc in the UK. It’s all words, isn’t it ?

Gosh Doodledog I hadn’t realised that Growstuff had been banned.
A poster I rarely agreed with and who held strong views but always interesting and well researched posts.
Goodness me, let’s have a rewritten and clear list of rules followed by a total
Amnesty for all previously banned posters.
Once we have a list of completely unambiguous rules we will all know how to behave as expected.
So GNHQ please may we have unambiguous rules and a wiped clean slate for all.
Thank you.

Growstuff is (unfortunately) back under a new name but her style hasn’t changed. Might take the mods a while to realise but several of us know.

Whilst I wouldn't use the 'unfortunately' because I don't want anyone banned (unless they're in the VS category) I do believe you're correct in your assumption. Just can't use her known medical history or partnership status to regale us all......

More and more like a classroom. Or Borstal. I think sticking to the non controversial topics and leaving politics alone might be the go here. Pity, because there are some interesting folk with some interesting views.

Non-Controversial depends on the reader’s POV on any thread.
Feeling that you shouldn’t post on a particular thread because your post might get you banned?
That’s worrying.

Good morning Allira I hope you re still reading we are all still here (only just though )

GrannyGravy13 Thu 11-Jun-26 07:22:47

Good morning Allira 🙋‍♀️

AGAA4 Thu 11-Jun-26 08:04:26

It looks like Allira won't be back - for now - but she may return at some point I believe.

LauraNorderr Thu 11-Jun-26 09:07:43

Good morning Allira, good morning all.
There are at least a dozen posters, to my limited knowledge, who have been banned and have returned under other names. Some have previously been quite forthright in their opinions and seem to have been ‘tamed’.
Others were never anything other than kind, witty and sometimes had strong opinions but delivered well and with politeness. These latter are now more cautious and certainly post less prolifically than before.
Such a shame. I feel that we are all being coerced in to being pearl clutching, well behaved and obedient little people.
If GN aren’t careful this site will become soulless and boring attracting only knitting patterns and recipes.

Why the need to be so dismissive of posters who are not full throated supporters of Allira? There are plenty of threads atm which are feisty and lively and well informed. There are also bereavement threads running which many GNers find supportive. Are they soulless and peopled by pearl clutchers? Similarly some NHS threads where people are sharing experiences. I do wonder if some of you have got so enmeshed with the A issue that you’ve lost a sense of proportion? These A threads have involved coded messages , conspiracy theories about who reported who when., faux (imo) fears about saying boo in N and P will get you reported and immediately banned. And what seems an obsession with banned posters returning or simply name changing. The strengths of your case shouldn’t need to rest on the rubbishing of other posters elsewhere on the site. I’m pretty sure you’ve alienated some posters who might initially have supported your position. Neither does it help to lionise a particular poster. Yes some posters contribute ( in the wider sense) more to any site like this but no one is indispensable. Finally I really cannot understand why some of you are remaining on this site as you despise many of your fellow posters and the whole of GNHQ.

Good morning Allira - I hope you are doing ok. I don't know if this info is something you want to look at or even be interested in but which might possibly 🤞go some way to you at least finding out why you were banned which is to email Gransnet stating you want a Subject Access Request (SARS) from them. They then legally have to respond to you within 30 days. SARS to be emailed to:-

[email protected]

I've requested these on 2 occasions from other companies which were both helpful when dealing with my complaints to them. One of which I took to the relevant ombudsman who upheld my complaint.

Be aware though that companies can/do hold stuff back where deemed eg sensitive so in your case the SARS info sent to you would definitely omit the name/s of reporter/s. You never know, but the info sent to you may give you at least an insight of where/how they've decided you breached their rules. I haven't seen any evidence in any of your posts I've read.

The link below explains all about SARS and how to request one.

ico.org.uk/for-the-public/getting-copies-of-your-information-subject-access-request/

I hope this is of some help to you but if not my apologies.

Thank you for that info.
Ian Hislop gave a wonderful demonstration of how AI can get it so wrong.
He asked who owns Private Eye the answer came back,
Jonathan Harmsworth 4th Viscount Rothermere. The owner of the Daily Mail. So once upon a time Viscount Rothermere sued his own company 🤷‍♀️

I agree with the comments Tuliptree made. I am not afraid to express my opinions and neither I am a knitter, nor would I be interested in recipes.

I don't think Gransnet would become boring at all. There are still threads with posters who are not afraid to express their views.

I agree with Tuliptree's post at 9.44 (citing the time in case the thread moves fast while I'm writing)

I haven't contributed much to these Allira threads, not because they have alienated me but because they've become a bit toxic for the reasons cited.

I am still astounded at the ban and the reasons given for it. Allira was a perfectly innocuous poster (as was her former incarnation, whose banning also surprised me) and I would be very happy to see her back.

Aveline Thu 11-Jun-26 11:33:22

Oh dear. This thread is now toxic.
I suspect that these negative posters must be jealous of the loyalty most of us have for a dear friend on here.
I've certainly lost faith in Gransnet and how it's moderated but not in most of the posters

Mollygo Thu 11-Jun-26 11:34:34

Similarly some NHS threads where people are sharing experiences.
Oh I think you’re so right Tuliptree

However, are also some dismissive or disparaging comments on those threads. The good news is that the unpleasant comments have been left to stand so that people can see the posts and the posters rather than them being deleted.

Which IMO is a good idea.

Finally I really cannot understand why some of you are remaining on this site as you despise many of your fellow posters and the whole of GNHQ.

I have often wondered that about some of the posters so dismissive of others views.

Is there an element of enjoyment in being able to anonymously denigrate any views that don’t match which could be another reason for remaining?

Or is it just that people, not just some people appreciate the opportunity to exchange information, chat, ask for help, sympathise, support, and even joke with others that GN gives us?

Maybe I should start a thread about that.

I suppose toxic means that the world view on this thread is being challenged and I appreciate that's really difficult for you when it's made clear that groupthink isn't shared by everyone. Accusing those of us who are prepared to challenge and criticise this worldview real of being jealous says quite a lot doesn't it?

f that's meant for me, Aveline you are well wide of the mark. I think it's lovely that people are being loyal to someone who has been apparently very badly treated. I just don't like the way that some are taking the opportunity to air unrelated grievances and take pot shots at 'some posters'

However, in my experience Gnet has always been like this so I'll retire now.

Good luck with the campaign.
