I think that will patently obvious to most.

You have grouped people into 'Starmer fans' and non-Starmer fans', and implied that the former are nasty people who stoop low, as well as saying that 'non-Starmer fans' would never do that. Of course that's offensive, and I don't think for a minute that it wasn't intended to be.

Passing the buck to Oreo doesn't diminish any of that, but never mind, I don't want to divert the thread too far off its subject.

What has being a 'Starmer fan' (whatever that means) got to do with calling people names? I happen to find that idea offensive when applied to people who voted for the current government.

What makes you think that you can speak for all who are 'not Starmer fans' or know that none of them are 'nasty people' who would 'stoop so low' as to 'call people fascists, racists, toxic etc' for that matter?

I’m another one who clearly didn’t look at the thread, so I’m now curious to know what was so horrendous that Allira deserved to have a lifetime ban. That alone sounds dreadful.
Like others I’ve been here quite some time and witnessed some momentous spats that didn’t result in bans.

If a comment like that was made and deleted it explains a lot of the confusion felt by those who missed it (eg me). Unless a remark is likely to put GN at list of legal action it would make sense to let it stand, so that responses are seen in context, much as I said upthread with the example of calling someone an evil sadist.

It seems we all have opinions and some share their advice and opinions strongly. I'll not understand the need to delete comments when if the comment stands it's there for all to see.

People have openly been critical of me for being a legalistic Catholic (I follow all the Liturgical rules as best I can), a stay at home mum to many children, our choice to marry younger and never move.

Water off a duck back. Nobody here actually knows me, nor I them. Perhaps if everyone merely thought personal viewpoints vary?

I think what is suggested is that Allira was provoked into whatever she said? My comment was more general though, in response to people being cautious about what they say, as it seems to be when people are having a go at each other, rather than when they have very strong views about a topic, that the deletions happen.

I think we can all imagine how she felt when a member called her a right wing fascist not nice was it 😡 bearing in mind this wasn’t the first time this particular member had made barbed remarks to Allira.
She’s not the only one who has felt the wrath of this member.

Did Allira report all the comments directed to her, to GNHQ at the time?
Or is it only now that she is doing so?

Personally, I do not believe in being trigger happy with the report button.
But equally, I do not belive in not reporting at all.
Things might fester if no reporting is done.
As in this case?
2 barbed comments directed at a particular poster by another, is not a huge number though.

If someone has the guts to report they should have the guts to says ‘ I object to that so I will be reporting you’

I was trying to just use the examples you gave ie "Meanie" or "Evil" to follow a slightly different line of thought as to what the moderators would actually reply to a "meanie" complaint,

...that the moderators would use their judgment and realise that some people were more sensitive than others, so in their reply to the vulnerable person reporting the meanie they would explain, for example, that other posters had already criticised the meanie one and no need to report.

I can see how it came across tho - duh and sorry again.

Will someone please name the poster concerned? Why is it a secret if it was posted on a public forum?

Right wing and fascist are cast around so readily these days that I think they are in danger of becoming totally meaningless words.

We are all right wing fascists these days, but I can understand it isnt very nice to have that directed at you. The people using that phrase are bonkers obviously.

I didn’t know what the specific issue was petra, but if that was it I can understand why Allira would be upset. It was certainly not subtle, and clearly not true because as you say, she certainly isn’t. Calling people out straight away as those sort of comments are made has to be a way forward I think.

IMO I find the people who read certain newspapers are . . . very goady or even just downright rude, but I don’t report the posters. Far better to let their behaviour remain on show.

Maybe you read a paper that is disliked by those who disagree with its politics, but that works as much for say, The Guardian as The Mail/Sun or whatever. It's not a personal comment so much as shorthand for a political perspective.

Also, doesn't saying that you leave the comments to show up the behaviour mean that you think they would be removed if you reported them? Why would they be removed? I get that this annoys you, but if everyone had all the things that irritated them removed there would be no posts left.

Thanks Rosie. I wasn't suggesting that mods have no brains - just that posters have different levels of tolerance to one another's differences, so banning someone on the request of a sensitive soul may well happen when someone is not reported for far worse behaviour.
