Is there a toiletry you can no longer buy and miss?

After my shower this morning I suddenly thought of how in previous years I always used Cussons Imperial Leather talc, especially in hot weather. It left me feeling dry and fresh and had a delicate 'clean' perfume. Not sure why it was stopped being produced🤔 Is there something you miss from years ago?

One they DO still do, but is worth a mention, is Badedas bath foam.I love it and it smells like christmas trees.😊☺️

This thread has been such a walk down memory lane. I remember so many of the items mentioned.
Particularly 4711 that an aunt used to wear and L'Aimant that I still wear occasionally.
I took used to send for Lincoln shampoo sachets that really used to give my hair such a lovely shine.
The things I miss and would still buy if I could get them are Helena Rubinstein's Apple blossom scent - heavenly (does anyone know of any other perfume that smells like that?)
and also Roger and Gallet's Oeillet soap with its divine carnation scent. Can't find that any more.

Olay Everyday Sunshine - a moisturiser/SPF that gave a very gradual light tan. Used to be readily available, and not too £££.
I’ve recently found it online, but it’s a lot more expensive.
You can get Olay Complete Everyday moisturiser with a tint/SPF in Superdrug. Apparently it’s not available to order but if they don’t have it in store you can order to pick up in store. I got some the other week.

Does it feel/look similar to Olay Everyday Sunshine? I’m another who used it for years and saddened to find that it’s no longer available in stores

Body shop tea rose perfume oil. One sniff and I would be 19 again, loving life as a student on the early 80’s. Also body shop glycerine and oatmeal facial lather. I used it daily for many years. Body shop all in one face base compact. So sad when I could no longer buy these products. Body shop has really gone down hill over the last few years.

I loved the Original Source shampoos in the late 90’s. The tea tree one really made my scalp tingle. The orange and lime ones had a fantastic fruit fragrance that I’ve never found replicated in any other products.

Yes grrmolene nothing like it used to be. Probably in tube to reduce risk of spreading infection

The one I miss the most is Desert Flower Talc by, I think it was Shilton. I saw it a while back but it was expensive on EBAY. One sniff of that would take me back to my teenage days. DODO I’ve just bought Roger and Gallet’s Carnation soap and also their Sandlewood soap. I still buy and use Cabochard, Elizabeth Arden’s Blue Grass Perfume, Tweed, and 4711 is everywhere to buy. Does anyone remember Californian Poppy perfume or the French Pink gift sets by French of Bond Street.

Nivea talc or Imperial Leather. Apparently it’s going to kill us all. I’m now forced to use Johnson’s baby powder, a different smell entirely. I should say I’ve only ever used it sparingly but I don’t ever feel properly dry without it.

Most of my favourites have already been mentioned...Sea Jade, Kiku, Aqua Manda, Apple Blossom but I also loved Body shop's Ananya. Other smells I have fond memories of are the little wet wipe pads called Quickies and Valderma soap for my spotty teenage skin

Breck Shampoo. I used it all the time in the sixties. Got married, moved abroad and couldn’t get it.

Ooh 4711.
My nan had that in a roller bottle and would put it on her wrists and face when it was hot out. smile

My nan would use it on me if we were together in hot weather - it seemed to work.

Linco beer shampoo in the cute little barrel and Avon’s Pretty Peach perfumed cream in its cute little basket of peaches. ❤️

Another vote for Germolene.... old formula as in pink ointment not cream.

Aveline Wed 27-May-26 07:12:04

Oh Germoline! I can smell it now. Such a reassuring smell somehow.

Seems pretty similar. Worth a try. Actually Superdrug had a few moisturisers with SPF and a hint of gradual colour.

Canphorated oil , my
Mum used to warm it in a saucepan and the put it in our chests when we were poorly .

MissAdventure Wed 27-May-26 23:02:13

Horse oils.
My mum used it on our "growing pains".

ALEXA488 Wed 27-May-26 23:43:53

Oh definitely Camay Soap! Also Close up toothpaste. Whenever I travel abroad I look out in pharmacies, as these products (and probably others) are still sold widely in some countries.

ALEXA488 Wed 27-May-26 23:45:20

My big sister always had that on her dressing table, and I was stood envious.

ALEXA488 Wed 27-May-26 23:55:21

Oh dear, that last post was in answer to someone who posted about pretty peach from Avon. And I was so envious, not stood envious!

Esmay Thu 28-May-26 07:51:55

I remember Pretty Peach and Here's My Heart by Avon .
We only bought Avon at Christnas .
I don't remember the Avon lady calling .
There was a huge bottle of Topaz on Mum's dressing table.
She never used it .
My Grandma had a bottle of Electrique on her dressing table for years.
They both seemed to be for decoration .

Jaxjacky Thu 28-May-26 08:03:41

nannan2 I use Badedas bath and shower gel, love it.

GoldenAge Thu 28-May-26 09:57:28

travelsafar - the long term use of talcum powder (5 years) is associated with ovarian cancer - if you're interested you can google this and find several papers on this link. There are legal cases now against Johnson & Johnson which produced baby talc, so heaven knows how bad all the other talcs with synthetic perfumes added actually were/are. Unfortunately, we don't find out about the damage we do to our skin and cancers generally until we're much older and the effects are seen. Surely the advice for our adult children and grandchildren is not to buy into this market and stick with something that's known not to damage our skin or cause cancer like organic coconut.

Aqua Manda and Morny smellies - June Roses was gorgeous, French fern, sandalwood.....

Does Wrights vapouriser count? Reminds me of childhood and being looked after when I was ill
