Is there a toiletry you can no longer buy and miss?

After my shower this morning I suddenly thought of how in previous years I always used Cussons Imperial Leather talc, especially in hot weather. It left me feeling dry and fresh and had a delicate 'clean' perfume. Not sure why it was stopped being produced🤔 Is there something you miss from years ago?

TCP!!!

You can still get traditional TCP - I’ve got some.

I've got some TCP in the cupboard. I love the smell and taste of it.

Desdemona

Another product I liked was a shampoo called LincoBeer, it was in a little plastic beer barrel. Made my hair super shiny.

Me too. It had a lovely smell to it

Drenes shampoo Beer shampoo, Harmony hair colouring Lots of the above also

I can remember the ads in Mirabelle magazine for Linc-o-Lin beer shampoo, as it was known before it changed its name. I used to love Silvikrin alpine herb shampoo and the advert on Radio Luxembourg where a girl asks her mate, “Alpine Herb? Who’s he?”

Im sure the last time i was in shop (about 500 years ago) i saw sachets of linco beer.
My mum used to do our hair with that, and rinse with rainwater smile

Sea Jade was the 1970s Yardley fragrance. I had to google it!

Avene Toning Lotion have changed their formula, but it's not nearly the same. Before you had to give it a bit of a shake since the lotion portion was heavier than the clear toner. I found it took the remainder of makeup off and left your skin feeling fresh. The new one not so much.

Galaxy

Nivea in shower moisturiser, it is about £50 now on amazon.
Sun moon and stars perfume.

Nooooo, tell me that's not true! I buy it half a dozen at a time when it's on special offer. I'm just finishing up my last bottle and was thinking I'll just have to pay full price if nobody has it on offer 🥲

Galaxy Mon 25-May-26 20:44:50

Oh my god. Oh my god. I have just checked as it is ages since I looked. You can get a bumper pack on amazon works out at £6 per item.

MissAdventure Mon 25-May-26 21:05:40

Just checked out ebay, and its much the same sort of price.
I was quite tempted to try it myself, but not at those prices.
I've got a big body!
A couple of goes with that and it'll be finished.

4711. Where did it originate? Pretty hard to find nowadays.

MissAdventure Mon 25-May-26 21:10:53

I can almost smell it when I think of it and the song in the ad... 4..7...11......

FindingNemo15 Mon 25-May-26 21:28:31

WhenIwasyour age. I will keep looking. I phoned Nivea who confirmed it had been discontinued and suggested I buy cleansing milk which I found a bit odd.

Some of the above products can be occasionally picked up in shops such as B&M and Home Bargains. Coty L' Aimant, Astral to name a couple.

I'm definitely buying some 4711 for my holidays. The tissues in little sachets are so nice for travelling.

I used to like a face powder called Corn Silk.

MissAdventure Mon 25-May-26 22:19:32

Ooh yes!
Me and my mum both used that at one point.
They bought out a foundation, too, but i preferred the powder.
I'm sure I saw it in Savers a while back, but i may have only noticed because i was thinking "Well, it wasn't like that, before"

Dempie55 Mon 25-May-26 22:49:35

Shampoos!
I used something called Sta-Blonde, I think John Frieda does the nearest thing now.

But my favourite was a shampoo called DOP. It came in a very small and puffy sachet and I seem to remember the advert involved a gorgeous leggy lovely in a pale blue sports car? (We’re talking early 1970s here…,)

Flippin2 Mon 25-May-26 22:50:51

Miners musk perfume,it was in a little white bottle with pic, think flowers,on the front, loved it

Cardamom Mon 25-May-26 23:30:49

Sea Jade was the 1970s Yardley fragrance. Yes! I loved that one. And I think they did another one called Khartoum? One perfume from the 70s that we all wore was Estee Lauder Youth Dew. Wore it on "big nights out" because it was expensive at the time.

My mum swore by TCP for just about anything going. I can't even recall all its uses, except for having to gargle it.

Yes, 4711.

At school we all wore Aqua Manda (orange) or Aqua Citra (lemon) perfume . If I remember rightly the bottles were brown with a plastic orange or lemon on top.

Soozikinzi Tue 26-May-26 07:11:11

Was about to put 4711 but I see many have already . Reminds me of my grandma . So cool for this hot weather.

Calendargirl Tue 26-May-26 07:24:28

Yardley’s ‘Khadine’ range, in a purple sort of colour.

I bought the soap, talc and scent when I went into hospital to have our DD, (52 this year).

I bought some more for DS’s birth nearly 2 years later.

Still have a talcum powder tin in the garage, still the same smell, transports me back to long ago happy days.

hoomee29 Tue 26-May-26 07:45:05

Oil of Ulay! Loved the smell.

Moth62 Tue 26-May-26 08:05:00

I remember DOP shampoo, a sort of silvery blue colour. You can still get 4711 cologne and tissues on Amazon.
