Some one suggested to eat fresh coconuts, like to ones used at the fair ground.
1) how long do they keep if not touched?

2) How to prepare them,i.e, splitting the brown shell from the white contents.

We used a chisel and hammer to split the shell, too much faff though. Do not know how long they keep as it was always eaten same day as buying one.

You can buy fresh coconut chunks in supermarkets such as the one shown- other supermarkets are available.
Raw coconut is highly nutritious and good for your health, but it is calorie-dense and rich in saturated fat, making portion control important, eg a ⅓-cup serving of raw, unsweetened shredded coconut contains about 94 calories and 9 grams of saturated fat.

Portion control is somewhat self limiting as it takes so much chewing before you feel able to swallow it. Take a chunk of and give the rest to the birds. They are lovely at the moment full of coconut milk and really sweet
