I recall when I visited Ilfracombe in North Devon many years ago, they had a "can bank" to recycle your drinks cans.Along side was a can crusher where you could crush the can and reduce the space they took up in the collection point.I visited Ilfracombe recently and the can crusher was not there any more.Do you have any can crushers in your neck of the woods,or know if they are still around.

I put on my DH’s boots and jump on them.

If you have a local cubs or Brownies, and you have a lot of cans, you could ask if the children would like to help with your recycling. I know when we did a collection they fought to see how many each they cold do.

I now give mine to a local charity collection point who have a crusher on their wall

I live in Sweden and almost every supermarket has a can crusher for soft drinks or beer cans. You put your can in, the machine reads the barcode and then crushes it. You then press a button and get a ticket to redeem your deposits at the till. Same system for glass/plastic bottles although they don't get crushed.

If you put a "foreign" can in - it still crushes and recycles it but you don't get money back

Although you have to time in right - the day after major holidays there can be queues of people with binbags full of cans.

my son and daughter in law take all my drinks cans and 2 litre bottles to a lidl store in glasgow and get 5p per can and use the voucher towards shopping.
