Have been musing about coffee this morning, not the good stuff but instant coffee, but a really enjoyable one.I’m going to buy something later on today and am always hoping to find a better one than the last one I bought.
The coffee in the rest room at work is always poor quality so I will start taking my own in with me.
It needs to be one with caffeine. What can you recommend?

Colombian strength 4. 100% Arabica. Tastes like real coffee. I like a heaped teaspoon. Only £2.79 at Aldi.

Because I usually drink decaffeinated I buy Nescafé Gold Blend because I read ages ago that, unlike many decaffeinated coffees it’s done naturally. I bought Kenco for years after working in market research, tried it and preferred it to Nescafé. Being more expensive than Nescafé it probably negated anything I made doing that job. Currently drinking Nescafé Azeri Americano. I like the containers because they seem to be very airtight and I reuse them for other things. I only have one cup of caffeinated coffee to wake me up in the morning. Can’t drink percolated coffee any more as I drank lots of it one night when I wanted to see some sort of special moon and I think I overdid it as it makes me queezy now.

I use Taylor’s one cup, I keep a box in the car so I’m not caught short when I visit my parents, who don’t drink coffee at all. My son prefers Millicano to ground coffee.

I think its better if the water is off the boil a bit.

Does the temperature make a difference, read that coffee with ground should not be boiling water is it the same with instant?

It depends if you like a coffee that tastes more like proper ground coffee or are happy with a good instant eg Douwe Egberts.
DD bought a Lidl own make - Bellarom Americano Barista Premium and said it was very good, better than wellknown brands.

Thanks Allira. We have a new Lidl recently opened near me so I will give this coffee a try.

Nescafe gold for me..
I do try some of the others, and enjoy them for a while, but when i have a cup of my usual, it says "home".

Douwe Egberts pure gold medium roast instant coffee

This! I drink tea, but DH likes it even decaffeinated.
It tasted even better from B&M where the last lot we bought was £3 cheaper than at Sainsburys.
It also still has 200g instead of the sneaky Shrinkflation of Nescafé Gold Blend 190g.

I use grade 4. My finger slipped and typed 3.

Nescafé Azera.

We're boycotting Nestlé because of baby milk, but we use Cafédirect instant, which comes in various strengths and is fairly traded. The Co-op keeps it, and so does Natural Collection.

Fallingstar Thu 07-May-26 14:26:29

Another vote for Nescafé Azera.

Samsara1 Thu 07-May-26 14:05:43

Nescafe Alta Rica if you like it dark but Cap Columbi if you like your coffee a but lighter.

For the cafetiere its Lavazza.

paddyann54 Thu 07-May-26 14:05:11

I buy Percol espresso noir and Colombian from Morrisons or Amazon in packs of 6 jars .I,ve been buying it since Covid and happy with it so will stick with it

dalrymple23 Thu 07-May-26 13:49:37

M & S Italian, Grade 4.

sassenach512 Thu 07-May-26 13:45:49

I like the coffee bags but we're giving Costa smooth de-caff blend a go at the minute and it's quite nice

Astitchintime Thu 07-May-26 13:23:53

Kenco Millicano is my favourite…….only drink one coffee a day so I don’t think it’s an extravagance and it is often on offer in Tesco.

VANECAM Thu 07-May-26 13:23:15

One of my GP’s questions at her surgery this week was about caffeine.
When I informed her that my total cups of tea and coffee combined per day was just 5 (and nil after 6pm) she replied that my limit ought to be just 3 or even better zero!

Witzend Thu 07-May-26 13:20:58

We always used to go for Alta Rica instant, if it’s still available. To me so much better than most.

Visgir1 Thu 07-May-26 13:12:29

I get stomach ache if I drink instant coffee started out of the blue several years ago.
So I buy ground coffee and coffee bags (Taylor's) both Caffeine and De-caf. I also subscribed to a Direct Coffee company and the De-caf they send is always fabulous, you wouldn't know any difference as its freshly ground coffee.

Charleygirl5 Thu 07-May-26 13:02:55

I only buy M&S coffee which I think comes in different strengths. I buy grade 3 which costs £7.50. I only drink coffee.

Sago Thu 07-May-26 12:58:53

I’m another coffee bag fan.
I also like Taylor’s but prefer Stokes.
They are expensive but I probably only have 2 or 3 a week.

Oreo Thu 07-May-26 12:45:04

That’s interesting Georgesgran and of course Taylors make very good ground coffee.

Georgesgran Thu 07-May-26 12:40:14

Try Taylor’s coffee bags - various strengths available. They work just like a tea bag, but leave in for 3 minutes.
