Why are TVs getting bigger when my room remains so small?

And I can’t watch my best friend’s small tv, it’s like a postage stamp in the corner of the room…

I love my big tv screen, wonderful for films etc., even though my sister in law calls it “vulgar”😁

Plenty of 24" TV's around. My choice of manufacturer is Cello, British Made and at reasonable prices, they do a range from 19" to 50" and for those who have caravans/boats most of their smaller range are also available in 12v. Most of their small to mid range ones also are fully smart with built in DVD player.

As other posts say there also are many 24" TV's available from the likes of Curry's, Argos etc.

The demise of the cinema was caused by the growth of TV screens and streaming of course.
Now most cinemas have several small screens in the same building - some only hold 12 seats. Once 4 of us went to the Film House and each saw a different film!

I have a 24ins Samsung TV screen from Argos. It's perfectly adequate.

I assume the tv has been replaced by now though.

You could consider a projector tv. The device takes up little room and you just need a blank wall on which to project the picture.

You should measure the distance from where you sit to where the screen should be to determine the most suitable screen size.
As a lot of homes are now open plan and some have dedicated cinema rooms it is fashionable to have a bigger screen.

We have just replaced our tv and how have an all singing all dancing moden one that do almost anything. It has a 24 inch screen, which makes it the same size as the one it replaced. We have never had anything larger.

In our living room takes third place to, first, the books, which take primacy in our house. We are more likely to read than watch tv, secondly, the huge open fireplace that takes up most of one side of the living room. Nothing much we can do about that, but the soft red/cream local brick is uite soothing to look at and blends well with the soft yellow decor of the room, then comes the tv.

Looks like I had better grab a 24" while they are still available.

I find it is a good size for me. With my cataracts gone and good glasses I can see what I need, sitting with my eyes about 6' away, a little coffee table between me and the screen with just room to walk round it to the other little sofa.

If I need to see anything better (like in the Paper Review) I just get up and have a closer look. Legs. Use 'em or lose 'em.
Having said that, I just started to get up from my seat at my little dining/laptop/jigsaw table and something has gone askew in the area of my left hip... OUCH! Doc's appointment on 23rd can't come soon enough.

We had a big TV when I was a child. A magnificent 12" screen! My Aunty only had a 9", like most folks who had a TV at that time. I bought a digital bedroom TV when Maplins was closing to replace the old 4:3 anologue only set, which has a 9" screen. Of course, being widescreen it is only 4 1/2 " high but being next to the bed it suffices, not that it gets used much. Luckily I can get a signal with an indoor aerial (with booster) upstairs.

We fairly recently bought an LG TV for the kitchen. It measures (diagonally) 24 inches - I just checked.

Argos, Tesco and John Lewis sell 24” smart TV’s to name a few.

My tv is rarely watched and it's still the same one I've had for over 10 years. It's about the size of my computer screen - ie pretty small. It reflects the fact it's rarely watched and my own personal feeling as to what I would assume someone thinks if they entered my sitting room and found it replaced by a huge screen would be "They'll be thinking I spend a lot of my time watching tv" - agh!!!! oh dear!

I won't be swopping to a big tv and/or smart appliances ever personally.

If that's a problem buy a bigger room!

For years I resisted the dominance of the TV in the living room, and if I could I would have had one of those cabinets with doors.

But I finally gave in and will always remember my DH and DS struggling to the front door with what looked like a huge television. But now with the screen being so slim it doesn’t take up the floor space it once did.

I have actually grown to appreciate a big screen, but I still don’t like its dominance.

I’ve just been and measured our 2 tv’s.

DH watches the one in the sitting room, it’s about 40 inches.

The one I watch, in the third bedroom, is much smaller, about 20 inch of actual screen.

Granted, I do find it a bit small as my eyesight isn’t as good as it was, even with my specs. If I need to read any info that comes up, I have to move nearer.

However, while they both work, we shall just carry on. I envisage when mine conks out (it’s a few years old), I will inherit the sitting room one, and we shall have a new one in there.

But how can you even see a 24” screen ? We didn’t have a tv till
my grandparents did around 1960 but I remember seeing photos of families all huddled round little screens

I love the big tvs, being short sighted. We have a big one in one room which I usually watch in the evening and a smaller one in the family room where my husband watches the sporting channels. There are some really ginormous ones but they wouldn’t fit on our brick wall . Today you can get any size you want, much better than the little boxes they used to have.

Well I don't know anything about tv sets nowadays.
But surprised to hear that you can't get a smaller one than 32".
I was in quite a modest house recently where they had a device like a projector protruding from the ceiling which threw the picture across to the white wall.
They didn't have a conventional tv at all.
I guess there must have been a control panel somewhere.
The image projected was very large. The top half of the opposite wall.
