What would you take round to breakfast?

Ailidh if you don't want to take food gifts . Do they have any hobbies they love if so you could get them something along those lines. I would have suggested a nice mug each. There is a site on Etsy which do beautiful ones with their name on you could still do that . Just a nice mug each with some really good tea and coffee . As they are going away do you know what sort of books they like to read if so a book each. As they are going away would have suggested a home made cake could still do that if they are holidaying in the UK .

My go to thank you as I can't receive without giving is home made cake and 2-3 jars of my homemade preserves. Which always go down well.

As it's getting colder a couple of nice fleecy blankets . Or hat ,scarf or gloves or all 3.

Or nice shower stuff. No idea what else to suggest.

Anyway really enjoyed you breakfast tomorrow and time with them chatting away.

I'd take some freshly baked unusual bread, but that's because I live very near two artisan baker's shops. Maybe not so easy to do otherwise.

I always fall back on flowers or a plant.
A gift of clothing -hats and scarves- or china seems a bit OTT for a meal invite (and I'm thinking most if us have all the mugs etc we can house) - but you can enjoy fresh flowers and then throw them away when they're over.

I’d suggest some really nice biscuits - amaretti always go down well, and you can get really prettily packaged ones.

I take it this is not the actual birthday gift we are discussing. I like the idea of tea/coffee and nice mugs. Croissants , pain au chocolat etc are good for breakfast.

I think whaatever you give it should be breakfast orientated, not clothes or cakes, alternatively one of those boxes of mixed marmelades. With Christmas ahead, any good garden centre will be packed with presentation boxes of preserves.

If you're going tomorrow it's not much time to buy something on order, so local shops. I wouldn't suggest fresh flowers, as they're going to be away so won't get to enjoy them. But you're already going laden with birthday gifts, aren't they enough?
If you know where they're going, maybe gift vouchers so they can buy something nice for themselves while away, to bring happy memories back with them?
Or, like already suggested, cake or biscuits. They'll be very popular at this time of year, with them all coming out for Christmas. And maybe some pretty napkins.

A breakfast party is a great idea. I'd love to go to one. It would suit us larks but not so good for the owls among us.

My late husband used to call prosecco with orange juice 'ucks Bizz..

Perhaps bake a couple loaves of crusty bread, one seedy. Butter, some good German fruit jam (our preference is a sauerkirschen), some lovely spiced nuts (our treat of choice after Breaky).

How about a Panettone? All the shops have them at the moment and they have a long shelf life so your friends won't think you expect them to serve it with your breakfast. They might even enjoy it while they are away.

I bought a little cherry and chocolate one this week and have already eaten it, toasted. It was yummy!

One thing we give most everyone for the festive time, or after November 11, is festive crockery bits. Christmas Tree (made in Stoke not far away, as now) is always a welcome addition to festive tableware.

I'd make bread, take 6 small Christmas Tree plates as my gift.

Table mats with a theme specific to their interests, enjoy your full English.

Oh, yes, if non-drinkers or childern are around , but if it is breakfast with friends the OP will know whether that is necessary.

I agree. A nice plant - maybe a cyclamen which is in flower now. Or possibly a nice jar of fancy jam.

I think mugs and bigger gifts are a bit much for just a breakfast invite.

I don't like to go empty handed when invited out. I usually take a plant or flowers plus some wine. I don't think wine would be appropriate for breakfast though but you could drink it later on

Flowers and wine especially sparkling wine would be appropriate with good friends as company and a guarantee of a lift to go home.
