Its going to be about taxes M&H
(183 Posts)i am temporarily following this issue with M&H despite being anti Royal...so could not resist putting up a new thread as things develop.
This will be a first for the Royals for sure.
There is more information appearing now on M & H
M wants to continue where she left off with her career and can now ask to be paid in eye watering amounts of money.
That is their plan
She will do it by flogging her Royal status.
Is this really allowed?
Her and H can be in an advert and then seen wearing the product.
This is what they meant by modernising the monarchy.
Tacky is an understatement.
What do others on Gransnet think?
She might pull down the whole House of Cards.
And they were not pushed they have been planning all this for over a year.
Also they have to find about being Taxed, here and in US and possibly Canada, A new world for H.
So we haven't seen for decades publicity about the RF which always has a Bad Royal in it? Charles and Camilla? The Duchess of Windsor, Fergie etc etc? Some leave and some morph into Good Royals. But none of it is real and none of it makes a shred of difference to their lives or yours. Marx thought religion was the opiate of the masses, in the UK it's the RF!
Not Marx ?
Has there been bad behaviour or poor behaviour or behaviour that leaves a lot to be desired? Absolutely. Perhaps that’s what you mean when you say good or bad - and perhaps that’s what people get irritated, fed up or annoyed about, especially when our taxes indirectly or directly shore up this extremely wealthy family and their spouses.
I think it is Marx - but it’s ‘opium of the people’
All these people who talk so patronisingly about the Great British Public and sneer at the Daily Mail and its readers (I am one). I would remind you that you are not a cut above us, in fact you are as much members of the herd as we are, you are just as gullible as you perceive us to be, it is just your gullibility is on different subjects, or you think it is.
Because trisher, the royal family are the one constant in our country. Prime ministers come and go, the political scene changes....our royals have been at the head of our society for over 1000 years. They are an institution, part of our heritage.
I wouldn't spit on a paper that supported the Nazis, MOnica, let alone read it.
Did the DM support the Nazis?
That must have been about 90 years ago; you must be older than you seem to be Gagajo!
Mind you, I wouldn't read the Sun after what they did.
Even the Guardian thought it was ridiculous to keep harping on about that brief period of time. The Mirror supported the Blackshirts too.
www.theguardian.com/media/greenslade/2011/dec/06/dailymail-oswald-mosley
But we all have our prejudices I suppose.
Mine is against the Sun.
Weren’t there certain members of the RF (and their close friends) who supported the Nazis? Perhaps that’s another example of badly behaving Toyals...
But royal dynasties come and go they aren’t a “constant”. The hereditary principle really isn’t one that can be defended in the 21st century - we used to believe they were some sort of divine beings - and after all there’s no guarantee you won’t get a mad / dim/ selfish/ bad one - and we’ve had all of those in the past.
That's why it is like religion veganstock it requires some sort of a belief system to support it. Otherwise you would just say 'who cares?' and not turn out to pay homage to whichever royal happens to be in favour at the time.
M0nica I'm quite prepared to accept I may have unexamined beliefs and ideas. I would hope I look at most things fairly closely and can tell the difference between fact and opinion. Opinion being something I can either accept or reject. However as you say we may all be gullible to certain things. And pointing out that the RF is a sort of opiate is of course just my opinion.
Thinking of them as a "constant" is a bit misleading. I suppose the institution is constant but since 1700 we have had the Stuarts (died out), the House of Hanover (because we didn't want Catholics) and The Saxe-Coburgs (who became the Windsors in 1917) then there's the D of Windsor blip. Not exactly constant any of it.
Or perhaps trisher, to use more of the quote, the oppressed creatures are sighing at the sheer gall and nonsense from the couple?
gagajo if you are so superior you cannot bear to touch a paper ordinary people read, no wonder you are so lacking in understanding of how ordinary people respond to issues.
No wonder Labour lost the recent election.
Let’s leave the DM out of this. I don’t read that rubbish but the DM is by no means the only paper or news outlet reporting the very questionable behaviour of H & M.
Let them support themselves they are billionnaures, leave uk for good, she will get rid of Harry within a couple of years when she has completely broken him. Givenupntitles, Frogmore and royal futures of any sort. In a few years Harry will need his family more than ever.
trisher.....you are off on a wild goose chase/conspiracy theory.
SirC is absolutely right.
I’m a republican, no fan of having a RF, certainly not taken in by soap opera doings etc as you imply people are.The facts of the matter is that surprisingly ( to most of the public) with their amazing and privileged lifestyle, Harry and Meghan are wanting to cut and run.Doing it in a childish way and no doubt hoping for continued support, both in cash and emotion from us all, while wanting no royal duties and to live outside the UK for a good part of the time.
It is a blow for the RF and constitution and will have to be sorted out, but it’s a big thing and naturally takes over news items.
That law quoted in this thread, does it include great-grandchildren? Only, the Queen's actual grandchildren are all above minor-hood(if that's a word) now.
So why is everybody so incensed lemon Have they proof that they will have to pay for H&M? Have they evidence that it was never discussed in the RF? Have they some sort of special insight into the minds of either H or M? no they are simply regurgitating what they have heard or read in MSM and adding a little vitriol of their own. I've no idea why. I don't know H&M. I don't care about them. I do care that a biased and inflamatory press seem to be able to say anything and be believed and no one seems to question why they behave like this.
I think a lot of people are angry or at least feel strongly, that Harry and Meghan have been given so much goodwill since even before the wedding, and they now see two people who live the good life wanting to leave and live in Canada to enjoy
A celebrity lifestyle whilst slagging off the rest of the RF, the media here and uncle tom cobbley and all.
They also, rightly, wonder if they will have to fund or partly fund their new lifestyle abroad.
The press behave this this because the gauntlet was thrown down when this pair decided to sue. Big mistake.
If you're happy to read Nazi News MOnica, thats your choice. That paper hasn't changed it's perspective. It merely keeps it on the right side of legal.
Just don't pretend it's impartial. You are getting bias worse than that of Fox News.
I'm VERY working class. I'm not superior. But I'm not a bigot. Much of what goes into that extreme right-wing rag is.
jolbook, the press were doing it already.
I agree lemongrove
I think that the RF’s existence relies heavily on the goodwill of the people of the UK. Whilst we obviously don’t know what the terms of this move/not move to Canada is, we do know that there is now a Sussex Royal brand that enables them to capitalise on the royal name to make eye watering amounts of money while they eschew the more mundane parts of royal duty such as opening community centres that us plebs use - and that is grating. I don’t think the younger generation will be quite so forgiving or accepting of this behaviour.
