Gransnet. Should I Be On It?

Half the time I think I shouldn't be on here because it seems to be full of right-wing bigots.

But then I see threads full of lefties like me and...

Waitrose, no thanks. Why pay more for the same food? Plus I prefer a green grocers etc.

I love dogs but can't have one. My cats would have heart attacks BUT my grandson would be over the moon with a dog!

If we all thought the same it would be boring and there would be no arguments discussions. That's what makes GN interesting.

Stay with Gransnet if you enjoy it. We don't all have to share the same views.

Keep off the contentious threads if you don't like arguments/animated discussions.

The Games are fun although there are Gransnetters who can't stand them.

Don`t hate the Royals, just the odd one or two.
Love dogs, cats, all animals in fact, but do prefer a dog to look like a dog, not a toy. Only have a cat these days.
Don`t shop at Waitrose, none near me, good old Tesco for us.

There are many quite vocal people on Gransnet who (a) want to leave the EU (b) are royalists and (c) dislike dogs.

I suggest that if you can't bear to hear opinions that differ from your own, you should join sites that only reflect your views and interests.

Pinkquarz, people rarely respond to my posts either. Particularly when I mention I don't live in the UK anymore, I don't get a response!

I think you should run for the hills - we're all mad!

We wear old lady clothes; we get nipple covers in the mail when we've sent for insoles, or mahogany chairs which we're compleedd to keep for 20+ years; we are often on the point of committing hara-kiri as a result of our OHs shenanagins; we live on toast and lightly poached geckos, we read norty books and some of us have absolutely no idea what Aldi is!

Chaffinch I am not sure what your point is- are you simply dismissing years of contributions by hundreds of women (and men) of massively varying ages on an equally massive variety of subjects as “dog loving Remainers who are anti- Monarchy “ (and no doubt have perms, elasticated waists, hate their DILs and feel hard done by because they never see their grandchildren whom they babysit eight days out of seven?

It doesn't matter to me at all if no-one responds to my posts, I don't expect them too!
We don't have to agree with or like posters , that's what it's like in real life. Sometimes it's better to keep quiet.

I have to agree with Maw, there are such a variety of characters on GN, that's what makes it so interesting!
I too am miffed at the stereotyping. I do hope the OP was meant to be tongue in cheek.

I often get no response to my posts, sometimes my posts seem to kill a thread stone dead!

I also find I can post something, it gets no response and then a few posts later someone says exactly the same thing and gets several responses agreeing with it!

I am beginning to think perhaps I am the only way who can actually see my posts!

I admit on a couple of occasions I’ve thought it’s not for me, usually after things have become unnecessarily bitchy, but I always seem to get drawn back, there are some lovely, funny, kind people here, just cherrypick your threads.

... I have come to the conclusion that I am not suitable to be on Gransnet because;

a. I voted Leave, and still want to Leave.
b. I like having a monarchy and (most) of the Royal Family.
and worst of all!
c. I am not a dog lover.

My first thought was "what a strange OP." So I gave it some thought.

Firstly there are many GNetters who voted leave, still want to leave and post that fact on GN.

Secondly, we see quite balanced posting from Monarchists, Republicans and no fixed opinions.

Thirdly, I have no idea about the balance for and against dogs but I imagine it is something those "for" post about and those who don't like or are not bothered about, post about other things.

So why the strange OP? Could it be that what chaffinch is actually saying is that she likes internet sites that agree and only agree with her opinion? So much "news" on the internet is partial to the site it is on so perhaps some GNetters have got out of the habit of having their opinion challenged.

I'm still not sure about the dogs. That's just personal choice surely? But this poster may feel that not only should she never have her opinions disagreed with but that her views on having a dog should be echoed too.

The little devil emoji ? on chaffinch’s opening post gave away the fact that this was a lighthearted comment to open up discussion/opinion.

Just heard that Leavers are "more conservative in the bedroom" (that's what the man said) and Remain voters more experimental**. Add this to the previous demographic analysis and it may be just one more thing Leave voters can take umbrage about when they see themselves as others see them chaffinch. Possibly another thread for a discussion/opinion - scattered with little devil emojis, of course. Just to make sure we understand that the OP, and lemongrove, have allowed this.

I too post infrequently as I am still working & have grandchildren & a large breed dog to occupy my free time.
However I enjoy reading posters varying views on different topics.
I voted remain but accept that the majority voted to leave (what I think about a no deal Brexit is unprintable though!)
Am ambivalent about the royal family but think that the Queen does an excellent job.
Dogs aah! I even accept that not everyone is as besotted as I am with the attentions of a boisterous, drooly Bernese mountain dog!
Waitrose pah! None of that nonsense here in rainy West Wales & as for scarves aren't they woolly things for keeping out the winter chill?
