Gransnet. Should I Be On It?

I only comment infrequently on here. Looking at all the different topics and viewpoints, I have come to the conclusion that I am not suitable to be on Gransnet because;

a. I voted Leave, and still want to Leave.

b. I like having a monarchy and (most) of the Royal Family.

and worst of all !

c. I am not a dog lover.

There, I have committed the 3 deadly Gransnet sins.

?

I voted Leave & would do so again.
I’m not a great fan of the RF. I’d like to see the numbers of them significantly reduced so we don’t have to pay for their upkeep (eg Prince Michael & Princess Pushy, plus many others.
I like animals.

I too think that lessismore was having a sly dig at a certain person, so I’m not joining in about the mean ‘scarves & Waitrose’ comment.

GabriellaG54 Wed 11-Sept-19 17:23:20

Waitrose do not give freebies any more.
You have to have a minimum spend and have a My Waitrose card before you can have the price of the paper deducted from your shop and be allowed to avail yourself of the 'free' drink.

I love being in the EU so a big remainer
I can go one better I ve never been in a Waitrose or a John Lewis store I m an Aldi Lidl and Asda gal
I loved my dog when I had one but aren’t very keen on everyone else s dogs so no I m not a doggie person (don’t like the smell of dogs either)
I don’t think I ve ever owned a silk scarf lots of ordinary ones but not any silk ones
Oh and I ve never been on a cruise nor really want too

JackyB Wed 11-Sept-19 17:40:45

I live 747 km from the nearest Waitrose and wasn't allowed to vote in the referendum. I think the UK would be worse off without the RF, I like dogs but don't love them. I avoid political threads and any other threads when the bitching starts.

I have loads of scarves but still haven't got the hang of wearing them. Once I was wearing one which I thought I had fetchingly draped around my neck, when it disappeared up the vaccuum cleaner nozzle. I have 3 DGC and one in the oven.

There are no rules regarding who can contribute to GN and who can't - you don't even have to be a gran, so please stay, Chaffinch.

Mealybug Wed 11-Sept-19 17:45:53

I voted leave and still want that.
I love dogs and all animals in fact but don't go OTT.
I don't shop at Waitrose but use good old Tesco.
I don't like silk scarves.
I do like the Royal family but think there are too many of them on the payroll.
I hate pretentious people (like my SIL) who thinks she's better than others but was born and brought up on a Council Estate smile

Lessismore Wed 11-Sept-19 18:07:36

Oh for God's sake, it was no sly dig...here...grin

love scarves, quite like Waitrose

Gonegirl Wed 11-Sept-19 18:37:54

^ Once I was wearing one which I thought I had fetchingly draped around my neck, when it disappeared up the vacuum cleaner nozzle.^ (*JackieB*)

shock That could have been so nasty! grin Think Isadora Duncan!

Nortsat46 Wed 11-Sept-19 18:43:22

- voted remain
- very anti Monarchy
- cat owner
- 2 drawers of scarves
- Waitrose regular.
Chaffinch your v amusing post and the reaction it has provoked, should demonstrate you are 'gold star' GN material.
Do stay and continue to create and enjoy the fun ...?

boheminan Wed 11-Sept-19 18:47:28

Voted Stay - but that was such a long time ago.
Like some dogs more than people.
Never been near Waitrose - the mere idea gives me vapours.
Have never met any of the RF, so don't know what they're like.
Wear DM boots (but no scarves) have tattoos, long purple (at the moment) hair and ride a bike everywhere.

A typical GN gran reallygrin

Fennel Wed 11-Sept-19 18:52:53

It's easy to become intimidated on here, in the news and politics threads anyway. But we need to have varying points of view.
And I hope that at our age we have more life experience to draw on.
I'm still 'on the fence' with Brexit. I'm a leftish Socialist, but I love Waitrose.

Fennel Wed 11-Sept-19 18:53:55

ps Tesco is catching up.

lemongrove Wed 11-Sept-19 19:14:22

Am a bit confused about socialists never darkening the doors of Waitrose, they are at the pricier end of the supermarkets ( not Harrods though, is it?) In fact they seem
Cheaper now than 20 years ago , when all their products were expensive.
I find the Co-op has similar prices to a local Waitrose.
It must be that socialists have a cannier eye for a bargain, because I can’t think of any other reason.?

Chewbacca Wed 11-Sept-19 19:17:57

2 out of 3 here. Not willing to confirm which in case I get pounced on!

Greenfinch Wed 11-Sept-19 19:25:25

Nice to have another finch on Gransnet grin

anna7 Wed 11-Sept-19 19:27:59

Voted Leave - wavering a bit now though
Love dogs - not so keen on cats
Shop in Lidl and Morrisons
Avid reader of political threads but too chicken to join in
Admire scarves on other people but they look untidy somehow on me. I always take them off after a few minutes.
Love this threadsmile

lemongrove Wed 11-Sept-19 19:28:43

We need a Goldfinch!

Greenfinch Wed 11-Sept-19 19:31:34

I tried to be one but was told there was already one but have never seen a posting from a Goldfinch.confused

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 11-Sept-19 19:38:31

Do stay, we need a variety of opinions on here, not an 'echo chamber' as they say on Mumsnet.

Hetty58 Wed 11-Sept-19 19:48:13

Chaffinch, don't go! We need a variety of beliefs and viewpoints on here or it will die of boredom. If everyone agreed it wouldn't be worth reading.

a. I voted Leave and still want to Leave

b. I have no interest in the Royal Family

c. I do like dogs and cats too!

I don't like Waitrose or silk scarves at all. I think a lot of Gransnetters are incredibly funny, not that they mean to be.

A significant minority talk out of the wrong body opening and it's endlessly amusing, I find! Do I worry about anything much? Do I question whether I belong here? Er, nope!

Sara65 Wed 11-Sept-19 19:57:05

Hetty

I don’t agree with your a, b, or c.

But I wholeheartedly agree, this isn’t an exclusive club, anyone can join, the more the merrier!

Grannycool52 Wed 11-Sept-19 20:04:15

Chaffinch, do please stay. I don't agree with all your views but I love the variety on Gransnet.
I am pro -EU.
I greatly admire the queen and her devotion to duty, but don't agree with a hereditary monarchy.
I don't mind dogs but detest cats.
I haven't got a Waitrose.
I like silk scarves but rarely wear scarves at all.
So I differ from you in many ways but I'd still like to read your posts.

Oopsminty Wed 11-Sept-19 20:16:35

2 out of 3 here as well. I adore dogs.

Not a natural scarf wearer. They look great on other people.

M&S for food

I'm quite new and don't post much.

But enjoy reading interesting threads like this one

Sara65 Wed 11-Sept-19 20:23:45

Oopsminty

Yes, M & S food, better than Waitrose.

Sorry, but I really don’t like dogs, and I do own a lot of scarves!

MiniMoon Wed 11-Sept-19 20:44:57

I voted leave, and wish they'd get on with it.
I used to have a dog, but wouldn't have another. As for cats, no thank you!
I too like the monarchy.
I used to clean in Waitrose but I have never stopped there?

I try to steer clear of the political threads as they just turn into shouting matches.

MiniMoon Wed 11-Sept-19 20:46:04

Shopped!!

I've never been good with a scarf either.
