I think this could be stopped

I have some sympathy for Rosie's viewpoint as I have been racially abused twice because I am white. On neither occasion had I done anything to cause the abuse just in the wrong place at the time. One of the times it could have caused a very serious accident.

I hate racial abuse but don't see why I should have to put up with it because I am not a minority. We are a family with two different racial minorities but why do I feel the need to justify the above?

....but, of course, the perpertrators would be slain on the spot by the rest of the football crowd.

That alright by you?

I think you are right BB, the only way to stop this is peer group pressure. If the fans turn on the perpetrators because they are angy at losing the game they have paid for, it would stop. But that would only work if the monkey chanters were only a small proportion of the crowd. I haven't been to a football match for many years, how widespread is it?

My DH is a season ticket holder at the team he supports. He hates all this racism but I think he would be furious if the players walked off when he has paid for his ticket and gone to the trouble of getting there. I think most supporters would feel the same.

Good Idea.
BlueBelle is there anyway you can put this idea forward to those who could implement this ?

DoraMarr Tue 26-Mar-19 09:13:37

I believe some clubs do give a lifetime ban for racist offences. What is needed, of course, is re-education. I don’t believe anybody is inherently racist, I think it stems from a variety of causes, including ignorance p and a lack of empathy.

BlueBelle I thought last night that if all the players walked off when there was any insulting chanting that would cure the problem.

eazybee Tue 26-Mar-19 08:57:53

Rosie Leah's question is perfectly reasonable, and it betokens a pretty poor state of affairs when a person cannot ask it without receiving childish abuse (Blue Belle) in response.
A definitive answer is hard to find; I tried.

Uneducated ignorant slobs is how I'd describe these idiots.

Round them all up and ban them from all matches for life, or until they've grown up.

MamaCaz Tue 26-Mar-19 08:30:06

I agree, BlueBell

But how far does the 'racist' definition extend?

The kind of monkey-chanting that I presume prompted this post is quite clearly racist. No argument.
But if there was to be a law, where would the parameters of racism be drawn? Take in this context, I don't think RosieLeah's question is unreasonable. Would calls of 'white moron' fall within the legal definition. Or calls referring to nationality rather than race, where the distinction can be more blurred depending on the specific nationality on question?

These are just some of the questions that would have to be answered, I presume, if there was to be a law.

However, with or without a law, I agree 100% that matches should be stopped immediately in cases of clearly-racist behaviour such as monkey chanting.

But they won't stop the game as there is too much money at stake. It would also cause unrest and crowd control problems. The perpetrators should have a lifetime ban.

Nelliemoser Tue 26-Mar-19 08:22:40

My thoughts there as well. BlueBell.

BlueBelle Tue 26-Mar-19 08:03:10

RosieLeah What a bluddy stupid remark you really have shown yourself up for what you are with that one
In answer to you inane question yes of course if anyone of any ethnicity uses a person colour to beat them with then YES it’s racist but you know that you are just trying to do you own bit of inciting. Not very clever

GrandmainOz Tue 26-Mar-19 07:57:28

And bluebelle I would make that a rule if I could. If somebody is racially offensive they do not deserve to be part of any gathering and should be removed

GrandmainOz Tue 26-Mar-19 07:51:37

How often does THAT happen rosieleah?? Very odd

DoraMarr Tue 26-Mar-19 07:39:18

Goodness, RosieLeah what point are you trying to make?

RosieLeah Tue 26-Mar-19 07:07:59

If a black man shouted 'white moron', would it be classed as racist...or does it only apply one way?

BlueBelle Tue 26-Mar-19 07:04:48

If all football games were stopped when racist chanting started the crowd would soon very soon silence the racists I believe
What do you think ?
