Evening all, and good wishes to you.

I have been thinking about words, generally speaking I love words, such as "concupiscence" and "nidification" (good one to use in a wedding speeech!) I also have a certain fondness for "frock" blush

But there are also words that really grate!

Gusset

Hubby

Turgid

Tumescent

Lounge (as in the room, not the act of lounging!wink)

What are yours?

Gusset

And, hopefully not in the same sentence.... "moist". Hate that word.

Oh, and "nutrient". That word irritates the hell out of me for some reason.

Oh yes, there is something about "moist" that is rather unpleasant!

Completely agree about ‘hubby’ and ‘lounge’. I have never heard anyone actually say ‘hubby’.

Chewbacca Wed 13-Mar-19 19:28:18

And "phlegm". <<shudder>>

MissAdventure Wed 13-Mar-19 19:31:32

Besty, furbaby..

When people on TV call their sister 'sis'. I have never heard that in real life.
I rather like curmudgeonly (hope I've got the spelling right.

Ah, Grandma70s it is used on here!

When I was first married to exdh, a lady in the office where I worked would ask "And how's hubby?" Even then , when I was 18 it grated!

Jalima1108 Wed 13-Mar-19 19:34:28

Gusset
I think that Miranda loves that word!

Hubby
Lounge (except in the case of lounge around)
Yes, I agree - Turgid
Phlegm

Oh yes, that really grates.

A cat is a cat is a cat (and best shoved outside).

Jalima1108 Wed 13-Mar-19 19:35:47

MissAdventure Wed 13-Mar-19 19:37:10

Oh yes flibbertigibbet is a great word. I love trollop and all that it conjures up!

MissAdventure Wed 13-Mar-19 19:42:50

Trollop is great, not least because it rhymes with dollop, another good word.

KatyK Wed 13-Mar-19 19:45:00

Yes! I hate 'empowered' or 'empowering'.

mcem Wed 13-Mar-19 19:49:26

For a while, DS's favourite word was crapulent because it isn't what it sounds like and few people knew! It raised a few eyebrows!

Nannyxthree Wed 13-Mar-19 19:50:12

Hate gobsmacked. Love flabbergasted.

Chewbacca Wed 13-Mar-19 19:51:52

I like the sound of the word "tincture", but can rarely find an occasion to use it.
