Perhaps we should all get together for a good hymn singing session.

Have just seen Non nobis domine nentioned. We always sang that before formal Sunday lunch when I did my teacher training at Bishop Grosseteste in Lincoln. I wonder if they still sing it? Probably not. I found 'our' tune on Youtube.

Eternal Father, Strong to Save

Bread of heaven. It has a more official title. But remember belting it out with the welsh rugby fans at Cardiff arms park. It was just fabulous.

'Hills of the North Rejoice' - thanks for reminding me of that one, it used to cheer me up in school assembly when that was up on the board. I rarely go to church now but when I do, not a single hymn is ever sung to the tune I know from my youth. It really puts me off going as the old tunes were so rousing and the modern ones are just so dull.

Thine be the glory. Can't beat a good, rousing hymn!

showergelfresh ‘There is a green hill far away’ is also my favourite, it never fails to bring me to tears.

I like so many of the hymns mentioned, some I had forgotten - When A Knight Won His Spurs, loved it. I too have Hills Of The North Rejoice buzzing in my head.
Oh Come to my Heart, Lord Jesus was a school favourite, Oh Jesus I have Promised another. Sadly my sons, who went to church and were confirmed but didn't have a school assembly as I did, know very few of them.

"Great is thy faithfullness" is a cracker. What a tune.

We used to call 'And can it be' the bicycle song as it includes'my chains fell off'!

Ha ha mumof, thats funny. I like the image of the chains. I can see the appeal then and now.

I used to feel a bit weird when we got to Lord of the Dance and the word " stripped".

At boarding school we loved the one with ‘the matron and the maid’ in it.
