The flowers from guests' bouquets and items from a 'flower arranging course' were reworked after the event by a firm that then passes them on to charity'.

I don't know what you think but having read details of the 'no expense spared' extravaganza, isn't this just a modern day version of 'crumbs from the rich man's table?'

I do think it's a good idea but I can't make up my mind about her motives. Showing off her vast wealth in the company of celebs like the Clooneys is not going to endear her to hard-up folk who normally turn out to support the Royals. Has nobody warned her it could all come crashing down?

hmm

After watching the programme about the Royal family spending and reading that Prince Edward and family just went skiing by private jet, how can anyone criticise Meghan for accepting an all expenses paid gift from her friends? I bet she was glad to be back in the US to relax away from the mob for a while.

A royal family is by definition the ultimate example of wealth flaunting - jewels, crowns, robes, golden coaches, own trains , planes, posh cars, castles and palaces, servants, expensive gifts from other wealthy heads of state ad nauseam.

Urmstongran Sat 23-Feb-19 12:30:43

I do wonder what our ‘Tupperware’ Queen thinks of all this?

Anniebach Sat 23-Feb-19 12:36:36

suzied One train. One helicopter.the one golden coach is for the monarch only.

No castles or palaces .

I think The Duchess of Sussex is in danger of exploiting her position, and needs to take advice from people who can guide her. I would hate to see Prince Harry hurt.

MissAdventure Sat 23-Feb-19 12:49:46

They all exploit their privileged positions at the top of the tree.
They have fabulously indulgent lives, whether that's openly or on the quiet.

Gaggi3 Sat 23-Feb-19 12:56:25

At risk of being grouped with those deemed nasty and kill-joys etc, I would like to say that I don't approve of any ostentatious spending by any of the uber rich, royal or otherwise. 4.1 million children live in poverty in the U.K, 1.9 million pensioners, and 8 million people in families where at least one person is working. That is something to get exercised about. And then there's the carbon footprint.......

123coco Sat 23-Feb-19 12:58:10

Anniebach. It seems it’s ok to you that anyone else can be vilified but posters here can’t be held to account for gutter press vileness. Check yourself!

MissAdventure Sat 23-Feb-19 13:00:48

Its a sliding scale, really.
I'm often surprised by what other people have, and do, and spend (even here on gransnet) but it's how life is.
It would be silly to have funds but live like a pauper.

suzied Sat 23-Feb-19 13:02:41

Of course they have castles and palaces, they may be "owned " by the state, but they are totally at the monarch's disposal to go for holidays etc, they aren't open for us hoi palloi to walk round. A few rooms at Buck House in the summer are open to which we have to pay an entrance fee. Queenie might have her muesli in a tupperware box, but it wont be tupperware when she entertains it will be gold and silver and servants all the way, to think the royals are slumming it and Meghan is somehow more ostentatious because she has non royal wealthy friends who throw her a party is risible.

Jishere Sat 23-Feb-19 13:03:48

I can't see how she was showing off her wealth to them when they are just as rich.
I think rather than keep these bouquets why not give them to charity, everybody loves flowers even those that can't afford them.
The big issue here just like her wedding, she isn't the typical English princess like Kate she has previously been an actress and it's nice to see that she is still friends with people that she has known or worked with. My concern would be who's paying for her security?
Meghan is a reminder that times are very much changing and the royal family are showing the way.

Anniebach Sat 23-Feb-19 13:04:14

123coco as you choose to read the posts on this thread you are no different to the rest of the posters . You accuse some posters on ‘gutter press vileness’, yet read the posts. I choose not to read the gutter press

Barmeyoldbat Sat 23-Feb-19 13:24:20

123coco we don't all agree on GN on any topic and you should accept that and the way we post it you may also not like. You obviously feel strongly for MM, thats ok, but why pick and be abusive to people like myself, GG, Lily and others who can't stand her and state why. So I will say it again, its nothing to do with her being American its to do with the flash way she behaves, the amount of money being spent by her when people are living on the streets and using food banks. And just to finish I find the way she is always posing holding her bump irritating. And finally I do have a life, a very active and fulfilled one.

Harris27 Sat 23-Feb-19 13:29:07

Thought she was ok before the wedding but having reservations after.she seems to be making her mark not quietly now. Ring on finger!

Anniebach Sat 23-Feb-19 13:30:10

suzied some of them live in castles and palaces state opened, they holiday in their own properties

Bridgeit Sat 23-Feb-19 13:34:46

Barmyoldbat, I can understand that you may not agree with much of this country’s Royal Heritage, & that you ‘can’t stand her ‘but on what bases have you decided you ‘ can’t stand her’? You don’t know her, so what you ‘can’t stand about her is Your own interpretation of what she is like. Is there a particular action, speech or non action that brought you to your conclusion ? Or is she being judge on her appearance, style etc etc.

Barmeyoldbat Sat 23-Feb-19 13:38:51

Its the same for everyone Brident, none of us know her even those that sing her praises, Can I ask you the same question but turned around why do you like her so much.

Bridgeit Sat 23-Feb-19 13:44:10

I did not say I liked her, I’m pretty non commital to all but the queen , & do appreciate the Prince Charles trust, which has helped many young people in our area.
What I don’t like is unnecessary bitchness by those of us who should be old enough & wise enough to know better, especially about how a person looks etc

suzied Sat 23-Feb-19 13:45:12

The royal family all use up taxpayer's money which could be spent on the homeless etc, so why pick on one member of it.
Why not spew out your bile and bitch on about Andrew or Eugenie or whoever. Meghan has got some style and is a bit different and attracts more photos and comments in the press so you are possibly more aware of her at the moment than other members of the same family.

fluttERBY123 Sat 23-Feb-19 13:53:52

I see an actor from Eastenders when I walk round local park. Of course I recognise her but she obv does not recognise me so nothing is said.

I believe there is a rule that if 2 slebs meet there is mutual recognition so they can chew the fat etc and moan about how awful to be recognised....where am I going with this....G Clooney and MM will fit this template.

Bridgeit Sat 23-Feb-19 14:00:49

Birds of a feather flock together & all that , ‘‘tis human nature too ,?

Marianne1953 Sat 23-Feb-19 14:10:38

I often wonder about this extreme, unbelievable expenditures by the Royal Family and rich celebrities on how they sleep at night, knowing that there are people who have to attend food banks and don’t have a permanent roof over their heads.

Barmeyoldbat Sat 23-Feb-19 14:10:52

You are being equally bitchy Bridgeit. Some of us have disagree about MM get over it.

Anniebach Sat 23-Feb-19 14:17:22

Naturally Megan wants contact with American celebs, in fairness she hasn’t anything in common with the Windsor friends . Harry has his circle of friends, William and Kate are comfortable together with their families and friends and the first family in the royals who seem happy within their own family life . The queen didn’t have this pleasure .

Bridgeit Sat 23-Feb-19 14:29:56

Opinions yes, but why do some have to be so negatively one dimensional.
