Meghan's Baby Shower.

The flowers from guests' bouquets and items from a 'flower arranging course' were reworked after the event by a firm that then passes them on to charity'.

I don't know what you think but having read details of the 'no expense spared' extravaganza, isn't this just a modern day version of 'crumbs from the rich man's table?'

I do think it's a good idea but I can't make up my mind about her motives. Showing off her vast wealth in the company of celebs like the Clooneys is not going to endear her to hard-up folk who normally turn out to support the Royals. Has nobody warned her it could all come crashing down?

hmm

I remember that years ago all the flowers royals are given on walkabouts etc are given to local hospitals.

Imagine what the papers would have said if she hadn't been thrown a baby shower by her friends!

Jaycee5
Only the weak let online abuse worry them.
They are only words from someone who obviously has their own problems.
Megan has no need to read the news nor do her friends need to impart it.

Exactly ,Lollin, dammed if you do, dammed if you don’t.
Sometimes on here including myself I imagine us all sat around a cauldron, Hubble bubble and all that?‍♀️

Why are so many people in the UK so focused on making Meghan and Harry’s life so miserable by constant criticism? It seems to have become a national sport.

Anniebach Sat 23-Feb-19 14:57:45

I very much doubt they are members of this forum.

The Duchess of Sussex makes Prince Harry happy, they seem to be very much in love.

I have no idea how much money she made from her acting career, it's her money to spend as she sees fit.

It has been widely reported that she has always supported several charities around the world, she is continuing to do so.

She has security with her wherever she is, so the only extra cost incurred would have been their accommodation in the USA. The Clooneys apparently chartered her jet, Serena Williams paid for the party and hired put the top floor of the hotel where she stayed. If I was a soon to be first time Mum I would want my baby shower (haven't had one) in a place I felt comfortable in and with my close girlfriends.

I hope she had a lovely relaxed time, as she is now on Royal Duty with Prince Harry in Morocco.

I wish them both well and only hope the media allow them time to enjoy their baby, but I imagine they will be continually hounded and The Duchess will endure criticism some of which will be hurtful and outright nasty, not something I would like to happen to a member of my family.

The whole planet is in danger and the wealthy are like Nero fiddling while Rome burns.
I don't care that she enjoys herself but I do care that the rich are seen to be justified in wasting so many resources on their own pleasure......which happens to cost money that could have saved thousands of people misery.
If we don't all learn to conserve then there is nothing left for our grandchildren That matters to me far more than MM and PH.
Who have made a speech that we are all going to do our bit for the planet......hypocrisy is ugly. They are making themselves targets by saying one thing and doing another.

Bridgeit Sat 23-Feb-19 15:58:47

As I said P Charles is very involved in saving the planet & providing employment & further education & employment, sadly it is rarely reported.

merlotgran Sat 23-Feb-19 16:06:26

They won't be continually hounded if they don't court controversy, GG13. Security is increased whenever they are out and about so it's not surprising that a lavish shindig in New York invites comment. That's all it is. Comment.

Security has had to be increased and their activities curtailed due to recent violent demonstrations in Morocco by teachers over pay and health care.

Ironic given that the purpose of H&M's tour is to visit schools, meeting children with special needs and influential young women.

Unfortunate timing as this must surely stick in the craw of teachers who are worried about their futures.

Hell's bells...another 'let's put Meghan down thread. Has nobody anything better to do with their lives?

Barmeyoldbat Sat 23-Feb-19 16:49:05

I am watching the rugby now..... come on Wales

Imagine what the papers would have said if she hadn't been thrown a baby shower by her friends!

Nothing probably because its a load of old tosh.

CarlyD7 Sat 23-Feb-19 16:56:34

Baby showers are traditional in the US and she is American, so why shouldn't she have one? Her friends paid for the whole trip (probably the jet too - and she couldn't fly on a standard airline as she is 7+ months pregnant and wouldn't be allowed). Certainly, some of her friends have young children (the Clooneys, Serena Williams) so should they be forced to leave them behind to fly to the UK? Seems unreasonable. Nice that the flowers have been donated to charity afterwards. Basically, whatever Meghan does she will be criticised for (especially as compared to "Saint Catherine". I wish people would just leave her alone.

Lily65 Sat 23-Feb-19 17:01:35

I don't care. I'm not bashing her but I do think its obscene to spend this amount of money on a " baby shower".

Actually ,the whole concept is so very selfish. I'm sure, even within the parameters of Court Life, you are able to be sensitive and kind.

Lesleyann9 Sat 23-Feb-19 17:07:22

I feel it’s her private business and her friends. She should be left in peace to have her baby and be allowed the privacy of any other person.

HannahLoisLuke Sat 23-Feb-19 17:14:27

It's just tacky.
Meghan needs to start learning to be discreet.

crystaltipps Sat 23-Feb-19 17:17:10

They don’t “court controversy “ they are in the public eye and photographed constantly whether doing royal duties or out and about privately. If Meghan wears the wrong thing, holds her bump, smiles, doesn’t smile, meets her friend whatever, she’ll get in the neck from some quarters. It’s become a bit of a national sport.

Bridgeit Sat 23-Feb-19 17:24:06

Megan needs to start learning to be discreet?
Umm , do you want us to go back a century or more , pregnant Ladies should not be seen in public ?
I don’t believe she has taken a selfie & sent it out to the media, she has to have some expression on her face etc etc. ?

Destin Sat 23-Feb-19 17:28:40

Nice comment Lesleyann9 - instead of too much negativity going round and round on this subject, let’s all try be a little more thankful for whatever we have in our own lives at this moment.

Blacktabby2 Sat 23-Feb-19 17:34:19

Someone l know recently a baby shower. Sadly the baby was a stillborn.

Annaram1 Sat 23-Feb-19 17:43:34

All you Meghan bashers are just jealous as hell. I am glad Prince Harry wont see your pots.

merlotgran Sat 23-Feb-19 17:47:13

I doubt Prince Harry will see my pots. He has yet to visit my garden.

Anniebach Sat 23-Feb-19 17:51:19

Jealous of what ?

Bridgeit Sat 23-Feb-19 17:57:17

Well said Destin, & Lesleyann9
Men are so much better behaved towards each other than we woman .
Come on ladies we should be better than this.?

merlotgran Sat 23-Feb-19 17:58:16

Blacktabby has a point. Those of us who had our babies in the sixties remember ordering the pram but not collecting it until after the baby was born as it was considered a wise precaution.

Gift giving and celebration was done after the baby was safely delivered.

I know things have moved on a lot since then but I don't feel easy about such lavish celebrations before the event.
