Meghan's Baby Shower.

The flowers from guests' bouquets and items from a 'flower arranging course' were reworked after the event by a firm that then passes them on to charity'.

I don't know what you think but having read details of the 'no expense spared' extravaganza, isn't this just a modern day version of 'crumbs from the rich man's table?'

I do think it's a good idea but I can't make up my mind about her motives. Showing off her vast wealth in the company of celebs like the Clooneys is not going to endear her to hard-up folk who normally turn out to support the Royals. Has nobody warned her it could all come crashing down?

hmm

Wonder if all the security team were on the private jet, they would have to fly out before, book hotel rooms etc

As I said somewhere else, I don't indulge in Royal Family bashing as I would hate to live as they do with every aspect of my life under scrutiny.
In this instance though I think the whole baby shower thing was ill judged and inappropriate for several reasons. Meghan is new to this whole thing and hopefully this was a final fling before their baby arrives.

Wouldn't she still have had the security even if she had the event in a London hotel?

newnanny Tue 26-Feb-19 12:16:29

I believe on Meghan's jaunt the tax payer had to foot the bill for security. If they paid themselves as they could well afford to do I am sure their would be less outcry.

I actually read some time ago that Kate did not have any baby showers with any of hers because they could well afford to buy the baby things themselves and it was seen by Queen as none done by royals. I think Meghan would have made a few less critics if she had asked her celebrity friends to donate money to children's charities. Personally I think it is a ridiculous waste of money to spend half a million on a baby shower. Years ago when I had my babies colleagues brought you in a small gift such as a babygro on last day of work and friends got you a small gift after the baby was born when they saw it for the first time. Much more sensible.

Kate has dignity

moonbeames Tue 26-Feb-19 09:14:10

Kate is just amazing. A good head on her shoulders, no flash anywhere, a class act.

We didn’t collect the pram untill after our first baby was born. Gifts for our two babies were given by family and friends when they came to see the new babies.

grammargran Sun 24-Feb-19 10:55:38

Well, after ploughing through all this, I can honestly say - they don’t bother me, I don’t bother them, better them than a President - and I’ll leave that point there. Spot on Merlotgran - I wouldn’t pick up my pram until my baby girl was safely in my arms in the mid 60s!

Wealthy peple, whether royal or not, can spend their money as they see fit. I'm not in favour of anyone in particular, but if the tax payer is not footing the bill on a private visit to where ever, then who is anyone to say that they can't do it? We can disapprove of how it's spent but that's a personal thing.

Anniebach Sun 24-Feb-19 08:43:33

I like the red dress.

Baffled how a poster sees an undercurrent of racism .

Americans see the royal as celebrities and Megan hasn’t yet realised she left her celebrity status in the past when she married.

stella1949 Sun 24-Feb-19 03:11:27

This poor girl can't win. People will find fault, no matter what she does.

If she was any other affluent young woman having a baby, no doubt she'd be spending thousands and having parties and nobody would know or care. But because she married into royalty, suddenly the media ensures that we see everything she does and we know the cost of everything - because the media tells us.

I'm happy to cut her some slack and let her live her life.

agreed Paddyann

Baloothefitz Sun 24-Feb-19 00:37:14

I agree with you Gonegirl ,Megan doesnt have to change her friends or the fact that she is American surely. The press find her intresting, hence the thousands of photos, hardly her fault. I like her & don't like the undercurrent of racism .

paddyann Sun 24-Feb-19 00:02:48

I dont think people are giving her a "hard time" I dont think she'll see any of this or care even if she does.Just like the family she married into....out for themselves and to hell with the folk who pay tax to keep them in the manner they like .I'm not jealous of MM ...or any of them..I just think they are a waste of good air .

kwest Sat 23-Feb-19 23:28:39

So sorry that so many people are giving this lovely girl such a hard time.
Why should she not enjoy her success and her marriage? She will be a great ambassador for our country in years to come.
Good luck to her.

grin

Chewbacca Sat 23-Feb-19 23:22:23

Oh yes, the dress. I never actually looked at the dress, my attention was, ahem.... elsewhere.....!

Jalima1108 Sat 23-Feb-19 23:14:14

Lovely dress!

I think the trousers are a bit neat, though!

Chewbacca Sat 23-Feb-19 23:09:03

Goodness me, merlot! You're quite right about Harry's trousers! Bit on the "neat" side aren't they! oh my eyes! grin

merlotgran Sat 23-Feb-19 23:03:19

Well, she's managed the trip to Morocco without going into labour and I love the dress she's wearing.

Not sure about the cut of Harry's trousers though. shock blush

fluttERBY123 Sat 23-Feb-19 22:53:44

She has a doctor with her on these flights at this late stage, so could have it in the private jet or anywhere else en route- Morocco, NY, wherever.

merlotgran Sat 23-Feb-19 21:14:38

The Queen has (allegedly) said that being a Royal is not the same as being a celebrity. There's a difference.

I think Meghan wants to be both.

Deedaa Sat 23-Feb-19 21:09:05

To be fair all these people will have been people she knew before she was married. It must be hard enough to move to another country, mix with completely different people and have to conform to completely different standards. I think baby showers are nonsense but I expect she had fun and it's what rich people do.

Anniebach Sat 23-Feb-19 21:07:26

Why up north ? There are four countries in the U.K.
