I know I am being completely unreasonable here, but...

It's often called a 'cat's b*m' pout!!

But really, get over it! If we look back at our younger selves were we really any better!? Pencil thin, drawn on eyebrows with the natural ones plucked out were just as unattractive as the caterpillar ones are now! and lots of women slathered on the slap then as they do now with the pearly highlighter and blue eye pencil!

Just because we are older more mature doesn't give us the right to comment on the beauty fashions of the young just because we don't like them!

I was very impressed when my SiL commented on my granddaughters Instagram post of her doing the ‘trout pout’ and he said ‘ you don’t need to make funny faces , you’re beautiful without that !

It's the hanging of the mouth open in model pictures that I find unattractive.

It used to be hair flicking but that doesn't work in selfies. I think it is silly but they are just youngsters messing around really and I quite like seeing people having fun so I can't see what is to be irritated by. A lot of them probably realise that it is ridiculous but irritating older people is probably part of the fun.

I saw a picture yesterday of a famous fashion designer (famous former footballer husband) who has obviously had lip filler injections. They emphasise the edges of the lips and remind me of the edges of a slug. There's a distinct rim around the lips that turns them out a bit. It looks weird. My own lips are not very generous but I wouldn't be tempted by fillers.

A lot of older celebs, men as well as women, seem to be going OTT with facial fillers these days too. They look as if they've had a couple of ping pong balls surgically inserted under the skin! That, coupled with all the botox, makes them look weird. Apparently it's known as 'cat face'. You can Google it.

I agree about the eyebrows. They use a stencil to get them symmetrical!

Many moons ago I was sitting on a bus looking at the back of a considerably older balding gentleman who had dotted lines with the words “cut here” tattooed on his head.

I'm not worried about it - it was just a lighthearted post about a silly subject and I did say perhaps I should get out more....

The whole thing of valuing oneself or others by some very odd notion of beauty has gone silly. In my heart (and here in private) I wish people would be clean and tidy and forget all the artifice stuff. Save time and money and be more honest.

Rosina, I agree with you, it does look silly, along with lots of trends. This has always been the case, throughout the ages. I can’t say it irritates me though, rather, it makes me smile.

Each to their own, but standing at the bar at a wedding, I did overhear 2 young men discussing one of the bridesmaids who’d had the lot .... boob job, nose job, lip fillers and Botox. The men were saying how awful and false it looked and couldn’t understand how other men found that look at all attractive. My eldest GD has natural “ Angelina Jolie” type lips and she gets very nasty comments from other girls who just presume she has had lip fillers. It’s certainly an obsession these days.

I too wonder why attractive young women want to go around looking as if their lips are a baboon's backside. The very dark eyebrows don't suit many either but at least they are easier to reverse.

The thing that irritates me is I have an upper lip like that but I have never smoked nor pouted!!

Most celebrities have had filler and other treatments to iron out their wrinkles (Joanna Lumley springs to mind) and it's so obvious because they look so much younger than their real age.

What annoys me more than the youngsters you mention is that these celebrities imagine that none of us will know!

Really? It seems to me that every female under forty is competing in some kind of wacky race to cultivate the Most-Ridiculous-Trout-Pout possible. Not a look to be encouraged at any age, surely?

I bet they'll look back in ten years time and think "Jaysus! I actually walked about in public looking THAT silly?"

I hate trout pouting, I hate big fat black eyebrows and I hate massive false eyelashes, not keen at all about tattoos - there! got that off my chest!

I saw Joanna Lumley in a film a few nights ago and she has definitely had something done,she had wrinkles and jowls which she has not got now, but its very subtle and she does look good

I hate seeing obvious cosmetic procedures, male or female. I have a dislike of piercings but at least they can be taken out. I'm not a fan of tattoos generation thing, in my day women with tats were travellers or no better than they should be but both DD & DiL have them, I do like DD's tattoos, they are quite tasteful, how they'll look when she's older I don't know but I won't care

It's a ridiculous fashion - I expect they're trying to look 'cool' which is another irritation for me. Dare I say that 'in the old days' models had smiles on their faces and looked happy to be wearing the latest styles? A step in the wrong direction I feel. I'll never be cool, I'm afraid.

I don't think my DM ever forgot my miniskirts. If we were sitting around she would come over and out of the side of her mouth mutter 'white triangles'. She meant I was showing my knickers!!

When they pout for the camera, they also tend to push their chests and bottoms out and wear skin tight short dresses. I think they do it to look like a model, but sadly they just look ridiculous!

My granddaughter often emails pictures of herself and children. Some have pouts, some look beautifully natural. The pouty ones get deleted immediately! Even my five year old great granddaughter is doing the pout now, which saddens me- I hate it. But I'm not completely out of touch - I do have a very small tattoo!

Apparently it can also be called a "duck face"! (I blame that famous photo of Marilyn Monroe.)
