Please HQ, step away from the Pinot and crisps and do your job?

I agree with GrannyGravy everybody (well some people) seem to be extra sensitive today.

It is actually that reaction that has made so many men perfectly prepared to be outrageous. If a boy is cheeky, mouthy, gets into fights, throws himself around, acts dangerously, the reaction of his loving older relatives (men and women) is often to smile indulgently and say "He's a real boy", while a girl acting the same way is told not to be a hoyden. No wonder some grow up into men who think it macho to continue to act like that.

Thanks Maw, and I can assure you my post was not advocating a return to the acceptance of sexist comments , merely the most effective way of cutting of an inappropriate posters ‘ online oxygen’

Chewbacca Sun 30-Dec-18 17:16:31

That's ok oldbatty, we can disagree without falling out smile

I think that's right Elegran. And I love the word "hoyden". Not heard that for years! grin

As I haven't seen the offensive posts may I make a suggestion? As another said, leave the thread, ignore it, don't feed the ego of the person who is offensive. If appropriate report it.

I don't read every thread. If the title looks like something I cannot helpfully comment on I don't open it. If I open it and read the OP and then think I cannot say anything helpful I leave. There is no need to comment on everything or to sit and be offended. I am only offended if someone says something I take to be personal.

Nanna58 Sun 30-Dec-18 17:33:58

Oh Nonnie you don’t know how glad I am to see your post, that is all I was saying too. ?

oldbatty, to stipulate that this forum is for the use of the female gender only, would be in all probability a gross infringement of the Equalities Act 2010.

The Equalities Commision has taken up many cases where the rules of various organisations have prescribed against women. For a well-known internet forum such as this to bring in a rule making it "female only" would undoubtedly bring a legal challenge very quickly.

I believe there are several gay and transgender groups already considering legal action against MN and GN in the form that it is now.

The above is the reason I do not request highly insulting posts against me be removed, so as such groups and others can witness such posts.

Nonnie Sun 30-Dec-18 17:41:27

Well said Grandad. I have noticed one or two people on here over the years who clearly need to read the Act.

Chewbacca Sun 30-Dec-18 18:13:58

Thanks Grandad1943. As I said, male posters are not all of the same ilk and shouldn't be tarred with the same brush.

Parsley3 Sun 30-Dec-18 18:25:25

How I agree with not feeding the ego. A dubious post will quietly slip off the page if no one adds to the thread.

Grandad1943 Sun 30-Dec-18 18:31:17

Parsley3 it still remains on the forum for anyone to reference at any time.

Grandad1943 Sun 30-Dec-18 18:32:15

I should add to the above on or off this forum.

Anniebach Sun 30-Dec-18 18:43:53

All so complicated, a male poster said directly to me ‘ you are a target ‘ should I join the ‘Me to’ movement
