What do we feel about his public appeal for contact with his daughter. He says he texts every day but has heard nothing from her since the wedding. Apparently he has contacted the Queen for her help.

NanaandGrampy Mon 17-Dec-18 21:39:03

I’m not sure how he feels giving press interviews is going to fix anything? Surely, he must know how embarrassing his constant ‘whining’ is to his daughter. Wouldn’t you think a father wouldn’t want to make life more difficult for his daughter?

It’s like her vile step sister who hadn’t had any contact with Meghan for 8 years but felt that she should have met the Queen before Trump did ???

I would imagine ( given his penchant for passive/aggressive comments to the press) that Harry and Meghan don’t trust him to not spill his guts to the press should they call or visit him .

I feel immensely sorry for her - her family have no dignity ( apart from her Mum)!

Doesn't seem the mud-slinging will stop any time soon but I do find it very strange that Harry didn't meet Meghan's father prior to the wedding. That surely has to be down to her.

Anniebach Mon 17-Dec-18 22:36:16

Yet only seven years ago the father was at her first marriage , can he have change much in seven years ?

harrigran Mon 17-Dec-18 22:54:59

He will not be accepted into her new life whilst he is indiscreet. I do think he is deluding himself when he says he sends a text every day, an announcement was made that all her previous phone numbers and social media accounts were terminated when she married Harry, he will not have the present phone number.

annep Mon 17-Dec-18 23:00:59

I don't know what he's done and I don't care. I don't feel their family business is any of our business and I've more to do with my time.

Day6 Tue 18-Dec-18 00:58:03

I think the 'when Harry met Meghan' saga is appalling.

I feel very sorry for Mr M.

Harry has all the means in the world to have arranged a meeting with Meghan's father when he became involved with his daughter. Sources suggest they were close. Fond texts to her father featured on the eb site she had apparently - before Harry came on the scene. I get the impression they were quite close even though she was working in Canada.

Before the family scandals broke Harry could have introduced himself to his future FIL and shook his hand. That they have not met is absolutely disgusting in my view. Her family seem quite strange and grasping but Mr Markle after retirement seemed to lead a quiet life and not seek any recognition.

It changed when the paparazzi tracked him down. He was cast aside by Meghan and Harry and perhaps has rather foolishly and pointlessly made public his distress at being left out of it all - and I can fully sympathise with his position.

To be the dearly loved father of such a public figure and now completely ignored must be very hard for him. He may as well shut up. Meghan and Harry have behaved abominably towards him, imo. I have gone right off Harry as a result.

Oswin Tue 18-Dec-18 01:16:44

The paparazzi didn't just track him down though did they. He was paid for pictures. He embarrassed her in an awful way. He continues to embarrass her. If he would keep his mouth shut and his head down for a while she might soften.

Day6 Tue 18-Dec-18 01:34:04

He did a stupid thing in agreeing to a suit fitting in trying to gain some respectability after the paparazzi had smeared his image, describing him as a reclusive drunk.

Poor man, thrust into the limelight, yet getting no protection from the daughter who loved him or his future son in la.

Why, before any of this, in the early days of M&H's relationship wasn't he introduced to Harry? Why wasn't he included? Had Meghan decided to ditch him once a prince came a wooing? Did she see the father who'd supported her throughout her childhood and acting career as a liability all of a sudden?

No one knows why there is a rift, but I'd suggest it started when Meghan decided her Markle heritage could be ignored. The man did seem terribly hurt by the exclusion.

eazybee Tue 18-Dec-18 08:44:27

What sort of man publicly humiliates his daughter on the eve of her wedding, and than attempts a repeat performance when she is midway through her first pregnancy?
This will continue when the child is born, and on its birthdays and anniversaries, until Mr. Markle, and his daughter, realise that being married to the brother of the heir to the heir to the throne is not nearly so important a position as they think it is.

Anniebach Tue 18-Dec-18 08:46:38

Perhaps it’s a family trait, the father and sister want the world to know how badly hurt they are just as Megan and her clinging to Harry is telling the world ‘ I am so in love’

How do we know the above is true, though, Day6. Who told us that? Oh yes, it was Meghan's father who has repeatedly lied and been shown to have lied. He and Harry may have met several times for all we know.

Anja Tue 18-Dec-18 09:54:54

The man is a disaster. The type of self seeking drunk who only thinks of himself. I pity the poor woman. She’s tried to build a career for herself and succeeded. Now she’s found her ‘prince’ and expecting her firsr child. Only those who’ve experienced someone like this ‘father’ can truly understand why she wishes him to perdition,

Anniebach Tue 18-Dec-18 09:57:35

Is he a drunk?

luluaugust Tue 18-Dec-18 10:08:05

It has never been the Royal Family's way to include the in-laws as far as the public are concerned, Mr M might as well give up now. I wonder if there was a plan for him to come over well before the wedding and meet everybody then after all Prince Harry can't just hop on a plane unnoticed and turn up on his door step even supposing he now wants to.

Anja Tue 18-Dec-18 10:11:10

Annie he has clearly been drinking on the Good Morning interview.....and that was first thing.

Anniebach Tue 18-Dec-18 10:15:20

First thing? What time was it where he lives ?

Anja Tue 18-Dec-18 10:18:54

Good point Annie he was in California. However, you don’t go on TV to be interviewered in that state.

merlotgran Tue 18-Dec-18 10:29:39

I didn't hear the interview but wouldn't the press be all over it if he sounded drunk?

Of course Prince Harry can't just hop on a plane but they've had months to set up a meeting. I agree the father's behaviour is causing Meghan embarrassment but freezing him out is not going to work.

They can hardly lock him up in the tower hmm

Harry and Meghan sent this photograph out as their first Christmas card. "The Duke and Duchess' Christmas card featured a photo of the couple on their wedding night as the two of them stared off into the distance looking at fireworks. Meghan and Harry's arms are intertwined, but we only see them from the back. Their faces aren't visible."

Samantha Markle has appointed herself as an etiquette guru and has this to say about it:

Interesting that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have their backs turned," she wrote. "Is this towards the world or just the Ragland and Markle family? It's a bit sad. Face the Christmas spirit "it's incredibly rude to turn your back in a Christmas photo that is meant to share warmth and good wishes with the world. Those. that criticize me for pointing out the truth, need to get that brown stuff off their noses. I hear the worlds smallest violin playing."

How classy is that? Would anyone, especially a newly married couple, want that kind of toxicity and vitriol in their lives? Who can possibly blame them for wanting to give them a wide berth?

EllanVannin Tue 18-Dec-18 11:09:09

Oswin I agree that he should shut up. No person with any decency carries on the way he's doing with his self-pity.

Now the mother has turned down the Queen's invitation for Christmas ! I thought she was all set to live with Harry and Meghan or has she turned tail as well ?

I'd take no notice of the lot of them if that was me.

Anniebach Tue 18-Dec-18 12:01:11

I think it unfair to say the man was drunk, he may have been nervous, may be on medication.

Harry could have had a meeting with him, there was no mention of Megan and Harry going to Africa three weeks after they met.

It seems Megan decided her family were not the right type to meet her future in laws, the interviews with the father and sister started after the media got wind of the romance.
It was said at the time, and not by family, when Megan wants something she gets it and no one stands in her way.

Yes her father and sister should now remain silent, they will not be given any contact with Megan, Harry or the baby.

I think their Christmas is naff

glammanana Tue 18-Dec-18 12:24:51

I just find it very strange where Mr Markle gets his daughters personal telephone number from enabling him to text her, surely she should do what we all do when bothered by unwanted text's and change her number.

He's lying again.

Anniebach Tue 18-Dec-18 12:54:37

Perhaps her old phone is kept so security can check it

Sparklefizz Tue 18-Dec-18 13:52:01

According to the News online just now, "palace aides are enraged and exhausted by Mr Markle and especially now with his mention of involving the Queen".
