Where Is Greta Thunberg These Days?
What do we feel about his public appeal for contact with his daughter. He says he texts every day but has heard nothing from her since the wedding. Apparently he has contacted the Queen for her help.
And it shows StillGame
Just to point out a factual issue, someone in an earlier post described Samantha Markle as Meghan Markle's 'step-sister'. In fact they are half-sisters as they have the same biological father (Thomas Markle Senior).

Chewbacca I luvs you x
I have a very dear cousin who, with her father, emigrated to US as a teen after her mum died. My great uncle, her dad, was a retired lawyer based in Nazareth and then Jaffa. They lived on a trailer park in Nth Hollywood. She married a train driver and they raised their two kids there. She and her DH are very respectable church attenders and community involved people so do not fit the description of 'trailer trash'.
In the same way that all those in social housing are not 'chavvy'.
Both are derogatory term and not pleasant but sadly we all know what they mean!
I don't look at Wikipedia much Annie and on this occasion, Urban Dictionary pretty much sums up what the US slant on this non story is. Sorry to have disagreed with you Annie, I've never disagreed with you before but, as I said upthread, I've some experience of family estrangement and I can understand a bit about how MM must be feeling about her own family.
Anyway, I sincerely wish you a Very Merry Christmas Anniebach.
Not what I read * Chewbacca*
en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trailer_trash
Nothing to do with race; nor ethnicities Annie as I suspect you know. This, from Urban Dictionary, sums it up:
Annoying
loud mouths
dirty houses and clothes
greasy hair
their kids are out of control
lazy
Colour and ethnicity are irrelevant.
Chewbacca - yes I totally agree with you, it matters not a jot that MM's choice of career was as an actor. She seems to have been a very successful actor and gone on to develop her profile by speaking well on international issues.
My reference to Nell Gwynn was merely the suggestion that some of those criticising MM seemed to see her in the same negative way that NG was seen. There have even been comparisons between MM and Wallace Simpson.
I'm off now - got a murder mystery to read.
Then Chewbacca you knew it can be considered to fall in the category of racial/ethnic slurs ?
I do know the definition of trailer trash Annie. And I think, on this occasion, it's apt.
Fair enough Ism64 thought you would condemn referring to people as trailer trash , in fairness to Chewbacca she was quoting the American press, May I suggest you look up the definition of trailer trash, I did.
None of us know the history of this relationship except what had been mediated to us by various news items & magazine articles. We can all surmise, take sides, base our feelings on our personal experience etc etc but we do not know the truth. So I am not wasting any more time on the issue..it is not mine to worry about.
But does it matter that she's an actress Iam64? We're in the 21st century; surely we're past all that ridiculous snobbery now! All that matters is that someone, in this case Harry, has chosen someone to share his life with. Whether that sits well with the Markle family, some members of society or posters on this forum, it really doesn't matter one jot! We don't have to live with her. And for those of us who are still gnawing their knuckles in anguish that they don't like MM, or any other member of the RF and their choices of partner..... tough! It ain't your circus!
But Chewbacca you are quoting from the American press, they also call Megan an American Princess .
I read the trailer trash post and thought it unkind, speaking of it after I had forgotten who said so thank you for reminding me, I still think it was harsh, the man has won two Emmys, hardly trailer trash, he was employed .
I wish he would accept there will not be any contact with his daughter but it must be hard when only in 2015 she wrote to him addressing him as Darling Daddy
I did look up trailer trash, it is used to describe poor white people living in a trailer or mobile home and is used to denergrate white people living in those circumstances, so yes i did find it offensive, I now know you were quoting the press, i am glad because you are not a poster to denegrate poor people.
I've said I was snobbish with regard to MM and that she was an actress. Both are true.
I've posted a Collins dictionary definition of 'vitriol' on the other MM thread.
I stand by my use of that as a description of many comments about MM and here. I also stand by the fact, my comments weren't only directed at Anniebach but at the many other posters who made extremely negative, cruel comments about a young woman expecting her first baby.
Some of the comments referring to MM as "an actress" do smack of snobbery to me. Reminds of Nell Gywnn, the woman who shared the life of Charles 11 and was generally viewed as no better than she ought to be. Seems to me that MM is a totally different kind of actor but there we go.
Ok Annie, you've referred to the "trailer trash" comment 3 times now and, up until now I've ignored it. It was me that made that post and I posted it directly from a news website in the USA, (I'm not an American and so the term isn't one that I'm overly familiar with). The article made it crystal clear that they found Thomas Markle; his daughter Samantha and Thomas Markle Jnr's behaviour to be a national embarrassment because they hold our Royal Family in high esteem and are delighted that a US national has joined the family. The term "trailer trash" has been used liberally throughout US press reportage about the estrangement; especially in view of Thomas Jnrs fairly recent involvement in domestic violence, drunkenness and putting a gun to his girlfriend's head. The American newspapers don't seem to be any more impressed with the Markle's behaviour than most of the posters on this thread.
Early on in this thread, I said that I don't have strong feelings one way or the other for any members of the Royal Family but, due to personal reasons, I do have strong feelings about family estrangement. And on this occasion, I think it's justified. And yes, in view of what I've read in US press, I do think her family have behaved like "trailer trash".
Hurt and disappointed Iam64, I am not vitriolic and it was directed at me , I criticised Megan, I can’t recall you making personal attacks on posters but you did. I agree we don’t know enough about their relationship but ‘trailer trash, drunk, after her money ‘, you had no problem with these.Yet you said of those who critcised Megan ‘ letting their vitriolic unpleasant side out to play ‘ . You opinion .
Annie, I seem to have upset/irritated you for which, I'm sorry. My snipey comment wasn't directed at you personally, which you seem to feel it was. It was a general comment. I do find it difficult when older women seem to take against a younger woman for being themselves.
We don't know enough about the relationships really to pass Judgement. I still feel that simply heaping blame on MM for the difficulties in her relationship with the father is a bit one sided. It smacks a bit of the kind of negative comments that were directed at Dianna, a very different woman than MM but one who the press loved in similar ways. They also loved to turn on her, in a similar manner to the way MM is now being criticised.
We don’t Sparkle. But he is an American ?
And certainly we don't invite the Queen to join in and referee!!!
He is American, there they are calling her .princess Megan , perhaps he did want to speak with pride about her, the Americans do go for the royals.
Anyway it isn’t going to happen , I feel rather sorry for him, doubt he had the foggiest that here we don’t wash dirty linen in public .
Also I think he just wants some of the limelight that goes with being her dad.
Well, I reckon we don’t know the whole story and never will it is not our business. I would just say if I wSc in Megan’s position I would have done the same.
