Cushions

I've got loads of cushions and most of them I made myself. I've done cross-stitch for years and now I'm learning patchwork and quilting. Making cushions is a good way to practise these skills without being daunted by a large project.

I love them. My DH hates them. I never buy expensive ones but always replace them when they start to look a bit tired. Not long ago I wanted some new ones and went shopping with DH. I was pointing some out and asked him 'do you like that one?' He replied 'It's a cushion'. Me: 'Yes I know but do you like it, do you think it will match>' He replied: 'It's a cushion, I really don't care.' I think I'll go alone next time.

My cushions are like onions. I peel off the top one and go back decades.
Indian sparkly ones. Patchwork ones. Tasteful cream ones. Fluffy ones..

My DD says " You can never have too many cushions", and I agree.

I change mine regularly but I don't keep the old ones, what's the point. I probably buy new ones yearly. Actually the two that have kept their shape and bulk came from DFS when as extra's when I bought my sofa last year but they were 60 quid each. They've been worth it though, So keep thinking of getting 2 more.

I gave my daughter one of our old feather cushions, I was taking off the cover to wash and found a hand embroidered green cover underneath which took me straight back to my mum and childhood as it was one of pair i remember from all those years ago.

I wish I knew what happened to the beautiful large satin guilted and embroidered feather cushions that belonged to my in-laws. 2 were oval in shape apple green and lavender .

I've never seen their like since and probably never likely too.

Love cushions usually change them on a whim when we redecorate a room.

Quite recently we sadly had to empty my MiL house due to her finally going into a care home for demntia.

We literally had to go through everything as we were finding money and items including jewellery in the most unlikely places.

She had 13 cushions, we had to remove a least half a dozen covers from each cushion.
Over the years she had just added another cover.☺

7 in the living room. 5 in the bedroom. 2 on the back garden bench. 3 on the front garden bench. 7 in the cupboard, waiting for the change of seasons.

Yeah, I quite like cushions!

5 in the living room, 3 in the guest bedroom and about 8 stored for use with garden furniture.
I change the living room ones when we redecorate.I throw old ones away.

I love cushions. BUT … they must be feather filled - I cannot stand cheap inners!

6 in the lounge, (and looking for two new covers)
4 in the small bedroom.
2 large, in the back bedroom
2 large in our bedroom
I love cushions, but DH is like KateyK’s husband.

I can imagine the memories each layer brings.
I decided to only buy covers as the inners were piling up. Gave all the polyester/microfibre pads to a charity and bought feather-filled pads instead as they sit better.
I still have covers I no longer want so eBay it is...in the New Year.

I won a hashtag cushion in a competition and it is brilliant as a laptop cushion. It is bean baggy (although it doesn't look it) and it moulds to my legs so the laptop doesn't slip off. I wouldn't have bought one but I am very pleased with it.
Otherwise, I like cushions as I sit sideways on my sofa to watch the TV and need them behind my back.
I bought a lovely big velvet one with a parrot on from Debenhams Black Friday sale last year and I still love it, although one of the corner tassels has unravelled and gone. I'd like to get some new ones for my dining chairs as I am a bit short but they aren't top of my list right now.

Totally agree - cushions should be feather filled to retain shape. Sadly DH allergic to feathers so buy polyester ones. In no time they look awful.

Love cushions, but not in the bedroom! (First thing I do in a holiday home is to remove all bedroom cushions and pile them away in the wardrobe or similar.) Does anyone else do this?

We have four feather filled ones which came with the suite. They are so huge they usually get put on the floor if anyone wants to sit down - they make good 'stepping stones' for DGC to jump around on.

Can't say how many cushions I've had. All types, some I have sewn or knitted or bought. Had so many I had to have a clear out a few months ago most going to charity. Others I saved the polyester stuffing to use on knitted hedgehogs and teddies. Now I am thinking I could really do with some new ones!

Glammagran, is your DH also allergic to wool? You can get wool cushion pads!

I've got millions of cushions; well, it feels like millions.
My favourites at the moment are my bird ones. I've got a flamingo, a robin, a sparrow, a jay, etc. etc....

I've changed my sofas, and now will only have room for one cushion on each.
One!! That's all...

I love new cushion covers and really enjoy changing them a couple of times a year! All The insides are feather. The old covers go to the charity shop.
