Impulse buys and do you regret them?

However, I do have a short red wool jacket which I used to wear, until I wore it with black trousers on one Remembrance Day and found myself looking identical to the bandsmen and women.
I've not worn it since - I know I could wear it with something other than black trousers (if I had something).

However, yours is long so shouldn't be a problem. You could find one of those Russian fur hats to go with it!

Years ago I bought a nearly new car because I loved the colour - it was always troublesome and I had to trade it in.

I too bought a red coat last month. Not expensive but it was on impulse. I love it and it certainly looks cheerful. It’s lovely to wear something bright when the weather is dreary.

I thought today that what I would like is a proper coat - all mine seem to be shorter jackets which are more practical if driving.

Oh yes i do this quite often.I have got wise to this trait of mine and always make sure i keep the reciept safe and dont cut off labels until i am 100% sure i am going to keep the item.

I think a red wool coat looks very smart especially she worn with a black and white dogtooth scarf.
As for the bright pink linen dress (sorry but I can't remember who it was) why don't you make it shorter and wear as either a top with black or grey trousers or a tunic with leggings .

I impulse bought a soup maker once too. I've never regretted that. It matches everything nicely Cherrytree59!

Lemongrove, I would have the beard if it weren't for electrolysis. It is that since childhood I have always been the odd one out in any group, which has never particularly bothered me, I decided long ago to just make the most of it and never worry about conforming or making myself blend in.

As a dear aunt once said, you are always the soldier putting your head above the parapet and having it shot off.

Not sure if it qualifies as an impulse buy but when I was going on holiday last year I went shopping with my younger daughter.

Was thinking of maybe three or four items from nice shop bit more expensive than I'd usually go to (White Stuff .. most of my clothes come from Sainsburys Tu but I get lots of compliments on them).

Anyway, walked out with 18 items. Don't suppose I would have bought more than three of them if I was actually looking but she encouraged/made me buy anything I liked that fitted, small and round!

Still don't regret it a bit!

I don’t enjoy shopping so I’m rarely in a position to buy on impulse, but today I sort of did.

I’ve been saving up to replace my very old iPad mini, which I hoped to do this week, but our youngest son just had a very expensive and, for him, unaffordable car repair bill. I had to force him to tell me how much it was and just yesterday I gave him what I’d saved to partially offset the cost. Then today, most unexpectedly, I got what I imagine is my winter fuel allowance - and popped into John Lewis and bought my new iPad that had £100 off!

Do you like it? It’s about 100 times quicker than my last one.

Ooh, Jane, if you have white hair, be prepared. My neighbour was mistaken for Santa last year by pre-school children and their piping voices carried so well, much to the embarrassment of the childminder.

I should have mentioned that the neighbour was wearing a red fleece at the time and is rather rotund.

Why won't you wear it?

Definitely wear the coat! Bright colours cheer up against the winter blacks and navy blues.
MOnica I love the sound of your red boucle short coat/long jacket - would you mind sharing where you bought it as I’ve been looking for something similar?

Buy a purple hat or scarf and wear that too.

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised

There are two ways to go with this.
1) Buy a purple hat and learn to spit.
2) The coat sounds lovely and will brighten people's day at this miserable time of the year. Wear the coat, perhap's with a slightly mysterious smile. People will be jealous and wonder what you are on. You may notice, in any tea-shop or cafe, people requesting " I want what she's having".

I've been swearing for years. Don't forget that I'm the commanding officer of the official GN expletive squadron!
I do draw the line at spitting though. I leave that to the Argy Bargy 'ladies'.

I rarely go clothes shopping so am not tempted. However, last winter, aided and abetted by GN members, I was tempted a buy a Joe Brown faux suede embroidered coat on line. I have yet to wear it as I am a hot body and don't really wear warm coats so I do regret the purchase.

I like to watch the Create and Craft TV channel and have been tempted a couple of times recently to buy unsuitable items. One was a set of large fancy frame cutting dies only to discover that the larger ones were too big for my standard sized Big Shot machine. So what did I do? I bough a new A4 sized one! I have also bought bargain packs of card topper kits even though I don't make cards from pre-printed stuff.

When I do regret impulse purchases is when I don’t actually have anything to go with the impulse buy and spend perhaps weeks and often quite a lot of money looking for it.
Alternatively 2 cheap buys which are not quite right when one more expensive item would have been perfect.

Unfortunately it has not been confined to a just this once impulse purchase and I could open a shop with these 'did I really need it'.

I wish I were more impulsive. Then I would have leapt at the cobalt blue fedora that I saw a couple of years ago at a craft fair. It suited me to a tee, but I walked away from it and left without it. I have regretted it ever since. Likewise a marine painting we saw in a gallery in Wales. We couldn’t consider it as DH had just been made redundant, and there was little spare money. The gallery owner said we could come to an arrangement. But we didn’t have things we couldn’t pay for. A couple of months later, he got another job. I phoned the gallery and the painting had gone. The artist went on to become sought after, and then we truly couldn’t afford his work!
