Rufus2 Ooooo crumbs! You've got me trembling! My long since departed and late husband, who was Welsh, would kill me if I even quoted what you wrote or even called anyone in Wales the T name!
He also was ready to murder all those who said the phrase "So and so welshed on a deal." If it was uttered, even in the context of illustrating a bad person in a play on TV, the rest of the week was ruined by his anger and rage at the wickedness suffered by the Welsh at the hands of the English.
curlilox Love your name, the NIV isn't supposed to just mean 'new modern English Bible' . It's translated from a different ancient text from that which the Authorised or King James Version is translated from. sorry, I can't go into all the different texts here and I'm a bit knackered tired! The NIV is a very different Bible in fact, with masses of what is in the KJV missing from it. It is a very long debate about the different Bibles. The history of the translations from which they came and who translated them and what their motives were for removing sometimes a whole chapter, is fascinating.
For example, in the NIV Luke 4:4 says "Jesus answered, It is written: Man does not live on bread alone."
yes, you think, he needs some veg or meat or protein or some 5 a day....
In the King James Version it says, Luke 4;4
"And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."
Now, doesn't that make sense?
If you are a sincere Christian I would seriously recommend you hold on to your King James Version, even if you prefer the more modern English in the NIV. Just keep the KJV as a back-up so you can cross reference the texts, because you will find the NIV has holes in it. Also you can't trust the New King James Version either. Sorry!
For one thing, the NIV repeatedly avoids naming Jesus. see
