Following on from Sleeping Beauty, Kleenex have decided to change their name ‘man size’ tissues to extra large or some such description after having complaints about the ‘man’ part of the name ohhhhhhhh noooooo
Holds head in sheer wonderment and disbelief

Are their noses bigger than women's? Especially when full of cold?
Yes *maryhoffman^!!

Smurf52 Mon 22-Oct-18 15:07:42

While on the PC subject, I passed a sign today for the Knebworth Winter Festival. For goodness sake, why can't we call it Christmas as its always been. Other religious festivals in our country such as Eid and Diwali are allowed to be celebrated so why can't we celebrate our Christmas and Easter? I'm sure most of the ethnic population wouldn't object. It's just these PC councillors who don't want to offend...arghh!

maryhoffman37 Mon 22-Oct-18 12:05:45

I have always thought they should be called "Big Tissues." If you stop to think about it, it's "Mansize" that's ridiculous. Are their noses bigger than women's? Especially when full of cold?

wickedness suffered by the Welsh at the hands of the English
Tillybelle; I think we are going off topic here, or do really want to talk rugby? grin
I've had"Taffy was a Welshman, Taffy was a ...." stuck in my brain ever since school
playground 85 years ago. I've never found a cure!
Btw. I've always preferred "welched" to "welshed", but I think they mean the same. grin
Also, Dr. Google tells me that Taffy T. MBE, was (is?) a Welsh Laureate for Story Telling. He's 69 and looks like a Druid in mufti.! grin

I saw some lovely black sheep at a farm last week.
Perhaps they should be dyed purple!

Lilyflower Sun 21-Oct-18 22:52:37

‘Things are becoming ridiculous, aren't they? My 4yr old GD sings "Baa baa purple sheep" at pre-school.....madness.’

Ridiculous? More like a crime against scansion and metre. ‘Baa baa black sheep’ is a four syllable line with two spondees. Adding ‘purple’ makes it a five syllable line with a nonsensical trochee in a silly place. Tch!

MrsAllboys Sun 21-Oct-18 22:41:48

Tillybelle. Jilly Cooper described the menopause as a pause between men!!?

Tillybelle Sun 21-Oct-18 21:04:34

EllanVannin Me too! Or should I say, as do I. Toilet roll, that is. Great stuff. Does everything - right now, dogs are moulting and heaps of fluff at sides of room. Push bit of toilet roll along it gets it up far better than trying to sweep it and have it floating about. 100s of other uses.

Tillybelle Sun 21-Oct-18 20:57:15

Rufus2 Ooooo crumbs! You've got me trembling! My long since departed and late husband, who was Welsh, would kill me if I even quoted what you wrote or even called anyone in Wales the T name!
He also was ready to murder all those who said the phrase "So and so welshed on a deal." If it was uttered, even in the context of illustrating a bad person in a play on TV, the rest of the week was ruined by his anger and rage at the wickedness suffered by the Welsh at the hands of the English.

curlilox Love your name, the NIV isn't supposed to just mean 'new modern English Bible' . It's translated from a different ancient text from that which the Authorised or King James Version is translated from. sorry, I can't go into all the different texts here and I'm a bit knackered tired! The NIV is a very different Bible in fact, with masses of what is in the KJV missing from it. It is a very long debate about the different Bibles. The history of the translations from which they came and who translated them and what their motives were for removing sometimes a whole chapter, is fascinating.

For example, in the NIV Luke 4:4 says "Jesus answered, It is written: Man does not live on bread alone."
yes, you think, he needs some veg or meat or protein or some 5 a day....

In the King James Version it says, Luke 4;4
"And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God."

Now, doesn't that make sense?

If you are a sincere Christian I would seriously recommend you hold on to your King James Version, even if you prefer the more modern English in the NIV. Just keep the KJV as a back-up so you can cross reference the texts, because you will find the NIV has holes in it. Also you can't trust the New King James Version either. Sorry!

For one thing, the NIV repeatedly avoids naming Jesus. see
www.scionofzion.com/niv_hates.htm
For a list of whole verses removed and a theory of why, see

lastly pinterest has heaps of posters:

Sorry! I ought to let you know about two long lectures!!
I like these but I have watched a lot of his lectures so I know when he is referring to other things from them:

Good luck! God Bless you!

EllanVannin Sun 21-Oct-18 20:32:46

I keep a toilet roll handy for all manner of things----don't need Kleenex. Cheaper too !

BookieGram Sun 21-Oct-18 20:27:32

All this PC stuff has gone way over the top. The MeToo movement as well. We can't say anything anymore without offending someone's "sensibilities". The world has gone mad!!

oldbatty Sun 21-Oct-18 20:19:51

I quite fancy some Mansize myself this evening.

Sadly, only the hubster is available.

Jalima1108 Sun 21-Oct-18 19:13:59

I had a sneezing fit yesterday (dust, I think, from clearing out, not a cold)

Not a Mansize tissue to be found in our house
Oh dear.
Just when I needed some.

EllanVannin Sun 21-Oct-18 18:35:59

As the ventriloquist's dummy said-----" ruggish ".

Mapleleaf Sun 21-Oct-18 17:15:00

It is Iam64, but it’s got us all talking! ??

Iam64 Sun 21-Oct-18 16:46:19

this has to be the daftest thread I've ever read on gransnet. Thanks to PECS and annodomini, old batty and quasi for gently pointing out that all this PC nonsense being quoted as truth, is in fact total nonsense.

Tillybelle Sun 21-Oct-18 15:55:14

Forgive me if you've said it many times. Why is it called menstruation and the menopause?

Tillybelle Sun 21-Oct-18 15:47:37

I tentatively remind you of the reason I gave in the Sleeping Beauty thread as to why men need larger tissues than us sweet and dainty ladies.

Baa Baa Purple sheep? Does that mean that my black dog has to be called "purple"? This is so very stupid!!!!!

annodomini Sun 21-Oct-18 14:29:12

I wonder - if Kleenex had simply changed the name to 'Extra Large', without publicity, would anyone have noticed? And can I possibly be the only person (male or female) who prefers to say 'humanity' rather than 'mankind', thereby avoiding the clumsy sounding 'personkind'?

Mapleleaf Sun 21-Oct-18 13:55:05

I might add, Mabon1, that you are quite right in that I made a grammatical error, but you still understood what I meant!

Mapleleaf Sun 21-Oct-18 13:39:46

Please don't shout at me Mabon1, there's absolutely no need for it.

EllanVannin Sun 21-Oct-18 13:07:35

All this nonsense that's cobbled up is done by those who've got nothing else better to do. Once upon a time we were a proudly democratic country with free speech and all that------

Witzend Sun 21-Oct-18 13:03:25

IMO it's similar those people - I'm sure we all know one - who are never happy unless they've got something to moan about.
This lot aren't happy unless they can pounce on something to be offended/outraged about.

Summersky Sun 21-Oct-18 12:56:03

I only see black or white sheep! I guess purple sheep and unicorns are a good way to teach reality??

oldbatty Sat 20-Oct-18 18:41:22

I expect they would call themselves " Bloody Lucky"
