The most " insidious" thing is undermining concepts of fairness and equality by underplaying the importance of language in casual ravcisim/ sexism etc. This is done by pretending , & then ridiculing, the idea that changing "mansize" is done for reasons of equality. I suspect it is mainly done for sales & profit under the guise of equality!

I do wonder where all the common sense has gone. Are people really that sensitive? I suspect these daft new ideas come from PC nerds & not the actual people who may be effected.

Going back to ba-ba- black sheep, even from a very early age I always thought the rhyme was a compliment to the black sheep because they are the rare sheep and so their wool was very sought after.

I agree that things can get a bit silly and there are people who seem only too ready to be offended, we couldn’t use the term “nitty gritty” because of the slavery connection, but there are serious issues here. We need to keep a sense of humour and proportion but it’s a common tactic to try and destroy an argument by taking it to extremes; we mustn’t fall for it.

Who brought about all these " rights " and PC extremes in the first place ?

And in the meantime men are leaving their offspring. Shouting at women on trains, if they ask for space, grooming girls, fgm, starting wars. We have more important battles. This is just wasted column inches for the media.

MAPLELEAF It is there "are sensitive souls" - "is" would be there is a sensitive soul.

They have changed the name because they think they can sell a few more. I doubt they changed because people complained (unless someone organised a petition that got a lot of people threatening not to buy the product). It's not about political correctness.
As for a new low, they are plenty of discriminations against those with less power than a box of tissues name change.

As an 'extra large' person, I think that Kleenex are being 'sizist!' I strongly object to them using this term for their tissues, as I don't want to be reminded that I am larger-than-average!
I think that most of the PC rubbish is generated by idiots who think that certain terms might upset various groups, and don't want to be sued for being an 'ist' of some sort. I have various friends who are gay, non-white and non-Christian, and they all think that the hysteria being generated is ludicrous.
We used to live in a land that was proud of its heritage of free speech . Now people are afraid to open their mouths, let alone tell a joke, for fear of being pilloried.

Sharon, the point is that some terminology is now regarded as offensive. It's not a case of being unable to use a word. If in doubt, just ask the person or people you are with.

I honestly don’t know why people are getting their proverbials in a twist over this one. Company decided to change name of tissue to a name that more accurately describes the size of said tissue. Obviously for commercial reasons, they wouldn't have done it otherwise. You don’t have to buy said tissues if you object. As for bringing in loads of urban myths and spouting on about colours which isn’t what this is remotely similar to.

Ha ha ...I have to laugh at this (apologies to any sensitive souls !) there are many reasons why I hope following BREXIT I would not be forced to return to the UK (I may decide to but don't want to be forced to !) ..the main one being my husband, who is 85 and was without doubt the person on which Alf Garnet was modelled ....he hate ANYTHING and EVERYTHING and does not hesitate it saying so, loudly ...luckily for him the French person he is insulting at the time doesn't understand what he is saying ....but in the UK he would be in jail by now ! I would have to excuse him by explaining he has Parkinsons and dementia ....or keep him locked in the house ! When I worked in a school in the UK, even around 20 years ago, we were given a list of 'unacceptable terms' to use with the children ....black eye was one, we had to say 'bruised eye' .....ye Gods !!!! is there nothing more urgent to worry about !!!!! I worked also in a huge Accountancy firm, working with many colours and nationalities ...we were often called snowflake because we were white (well, we are not white actually, if you look at a piece of white paper ...we are more beige ! we just laughed ...never reported anyone to HR just thought it was funny, as did whatever creed or race of person did if we make a similar remark ...........and, besides which, how did Prince Philip every get away with his comments on Chinese people a few years back !!!!! PC I am not, and I don't expect anyone to treat me delicately either !
