I recently bought an album by the group 'Madness' and heard a song called " Shut Up "
It included one of the funniest lines that I have heard for a long time:

" I'm as honest as the day is long.
The longer the daylight , the less I do wrong".

So Gransnetters, the ball is now in your court. ??.

I have 4music on the tv, and they're playing this, which deserves a mention, considering how long it was number 1 for..

Look into your heart
You will find
There's nothin' there to hide
Take me as I am
Take my life
I would give it all, I would sacrifice
Don't tell me it's not worth fightin' for
I can't help it, there's nothin' I want more
You know it's true
Everything I do
I do it for you

I have to go listen to Jim Croce and Joni Mitchell. My husband has some of her albums. Never heard of Jim Croce. Songs play such an important part in our lives whatever mood we are in.

In the jingle jangle morning I'll come following you

Jangran99 Sat 25-Aug-18 01:53:47

Lean on me, when you're not strong,
I'll be your friend ,I'll help you carry on,
For it won't be long
'Til I'm gonna need
Somebody to lean on.

Some enchanted evening
You may see a stranger,
you may see a stranger
Across a crowded room
And somehow you know,
You know even then
That somewhere you'll see her
Again and again.

Greengage Sat 25-Aug-18 02:01:06

Should add this happened to me a couple of years ago - a man walked into the room I was in, and I have been hooked ever since!

Willow500 Sat 25-Aug-18 06:17:58

Some great choices on here - we currently have Gold on all the time whilst decorating and so many memories come flooding back. More modern but this makes me cry every time I hear it

If they say
Who cares if one more light goes out?
In a sky of a million stars
It flickers, flickers
Who cares when someone's time runs out?
If a moment is all we are
We're quicker, quicker
Who cares if one more light goes out?
Well I do

One More Light Linkin Park

and an oldie Up the Junction - Squeeze - always makes me smile

I got a job with Stanley
He said I'd come in handy
And started me on Monday
So I had a bath on Sunday
I worked eleven hours
And bought the girl some flowers
She said she'd seen a doctor
And nothing now could stop her

Gillybob I love Jim Croce and that is one of my forever favourites too.

DanniRae Sat 25-Aug-18 07:23:06

I can not listen to Adele singing "A Million Years Ago" without crying...........it's the line "I miss my mother". Because I do so much even though she died in 2007 sad

annep Sat 25-Aug-18 07:38:27

I know what you mean DanniRae. It never goes away.x
There are so many songs I must listen to from this thread. We need a like button.

dogsmother Sat 25-Aug-18 09:36:52

Love this thread, Leonard Cohen all the way ? but....

Still crazy after all these years.
This must be a single line attributed to my life ?

KatyK Sat 25-Aug-18 09:43:59

I wasn't there that morning
When my father passed away.
I didn't get to tell him
All the things I had to say.
I think I caught his spirit
Later that same year.
I think I heard his echo
In my baby's new born tears.
I just wish I could have told him
In the living years

Also

A certain smile
A certain face
Can lead an unsuspecting heart
On a merry chase
A fleeting glance
Can say so many lovely things
Suddenly I know why my heart sings smile

gillybob Sat 25-Aug-18 09:49:37

I could have wrote you post from yesterday 10.01 vickya. I too adore KK and have seen him in concert a few times . The Highwaymen concert was amazing and if my memory serves me well they did sing “Me and Bobby McGee* . You’ve got me singing now ! smile

annep Sat 25-Aug-18 10:25:48

Dogsmother LC my favourite singer/singwriter followed by S&G. I also like the lines

After changes upon changes
We are more or less the same.

KatyK pushing my like button for Living Years.

Nellie the Elephant packed her trunk
and said Goodbye to the circus
Off she went with a trumpety trump
Trump, trump, trump

Well done Nellie - got rid of your chains and went back to Hindustan!

(I apologise for the last line, but I had to copy it faithfully!)

blossom14 Sat 25-Aug-18 12:04:53

Hey there mister blue
We're so pleased to be with you
Look around see what you do
Everybody smiles at you

Mister Blue Sky always cheers me up.

MissAdventure Sat 25-Aug-18 12:27:38

Me too!

glammagran Sat 25-Aug-18 12:42:22

My favourite song atm. Big Big Train 2017, prog rock band

You were a flying ace
From the history books
Thrilling deeds and dashing looks
Fulfilling your destiny
Simply doing your duty
For King and Country

You were the poster boy
Who shunned your own fame
Who didn't take to the accolades
Even when propaganda
Screamed your name
You believed celebrity to be nonsense
You were a loner, a solitary man
Practical minded
And good with your hands
Your letters sent home
Revealed, this weapon had a conscience

Until at long last your plane emerges
From out of the low cloud
Inverted
Flying upside-down
Too close to the ground to recover
Heading earthbound
No engine sound
Black smoke trailing
Silently falling down
Brave Captain of the Skies

annep Sat 25-Aug-18 13:35:29

me too KatyK.

Jalima ?

KatyK Sat 25-Aug-18 13:46:55

On a lighter note...

Keep your mind on your driving
Keep your hands on the wheel
And keep your snoopy eyes on the road ahead.
We're having fun, sitting on the back seat
Kissing and a hugging with Fred.

Amazing what springs to mind!

MissAdventure Sat 25-Aug-18 14:14:26

Ohhh, don't jump off of the roof, Dad,
You'll make a dent in the yard.
Mother just planted petunias,
The weeding and seeding was hard.
If you must end it all, Dad,
Won't you please give us a break?
Just take a walk to the park, Dad,
and there you can jump in the lake.
