Anyone tried this?

I am struggling with the agoraphobia and the bridge. This morning I Looked at a local group where there are photographs of our town as it use to be , there was the bridge, big panic attack. Haven’t left the bungalow for nearly nine months.

Anniebach Sat 04-Aug-18 22:16:11

Elegran, I had to googled to find out where Zennor was, ?

I know this sounds mad annie but when I am plagued with thoughts that I would rather went away (especially at night) , I imagine putting them on a train and watch the train wind its way into the distance and over the horizon. When they return, I put them on the next train! I find it helps.

If nothing else, it puts you temporarily in control. And control is an important part of overcoming these things - when we feel it has all got the better of us we tend to sink. If we feel we are in control, then it is less frightening.

annie. I’m so pleased you have found this neighbour. EFT could help and it definitely will do no harm. The support from a neighbour who could become a friend is invaluable and perhaps more important than EFT. Wishing you well and sending love. By the way, I plot a route in a small cruiser around the Norfolk Broads, working out where to stop and how long it would take me to get there if I need a night time diversion. Always wanted a boat smile.

Dear Annie, I'm glad you've found someone who may provide support. You are so brave, stay strong.

Sparklefizz Sun 05-Aug-18 08:29:58

annie EFT does work. I have had it from a practitioner to help me handle grief. Since then I bought books and watched film clips on You Tube. It's easy to learn and I use it on many things. I am working on my spider phobia in readiness for the autumn.

Thank you all so much , last night I went off to sleep thinking of a name for my new scooter, because it’s blue I thought Bluebird, it’s been on the news, but then thought of the way the original Bluebird did that spin in the air before sinking , so no.

If it wouldn’t bore you I will post about my treatment, when it starts, not a meme thread but if it helps me it may help others here.

I have a few goals, little ones , go to church, go to the monthly poetry reading group in the pub, buy a newspaper,
Use the mobile library which comes once a month, in my old house I used it for nine years, I miss chats with the librarian.

Glad it helped you Sparkle .

Annie I would try it you have nothing to lose and lots to gain. As a therapist I have heard of it but it hasn't been around for a long time so not so much "evidence" to look at for effectiveness. Whatever therapy you try it is important that you like and trust the therapist, as a therapist myself I think the relationship between you is very important. The tapping is very similar to that used in EMDR which is the best therapy for PTSD ( post traumatic stress disorder) which is caused by difficult trauma you have experienced. I do hope it helps you. However most important do check that this lady is properly qualified, ask to see proof of her qualifications and her professional indemnity insurance. No ethical therapist will ever mind you asking this. Good luck.

TwiceAsNice Sun 05-Aug-18 09:04:26

One further thing if this lady is a genuine professional she will not be able to become a friend to you at a later date. That is a conflict of interest and crosses professional boundaries

ReadyMeals Sun 05-Aug-18 09:05:14

What bridge is this? Can I read about it anywhere?

Anniebach Sun 05-Aug-18 09:14:00

Thank you for your advice TwiceAsNice.

Readymeals, the bridge is just an ordinary bridge , it links where I live to the town. My darling daughter died there last November and I don’t want to see it, but if I can go over it again I can go into town,

ReadyMeals Sun 05-Aug-18 09:16:05

Anniebach I am sorry that happened. I must have joined after you originally told your story so although I was aware you'd had a tragedy I never knew what it was before.

kittylester Sun 05-Aug-18 09:16:33

Annie, I am so pleased you have found some hope! You know we are with you every step of the way and we would love to hear about your treatment.

I'd yoy are shirt of names fir your scooter there are hundreds on the 'what shall we call our new kitten?' thread. Please help yourself! gringrin But NOT Bluebird, please!

Barmeyoldbat Sun 05-Aug-18 09:19:39

Annie, just read your post, I am so happy for you that you have some help and friendly people who are willing to help. xx By the way I travelled to MT the other day on the train with my trusty bike to cycle down the valley and I travelled the whole hour with a woman next to me who talked none stop about Russian history, didn't have any idea what she was on about but I listened. Nothing to do with your post but just had to get it off my ample chest. The only way now Annie is up.

glammanana Sun 05-Aug-18 09:28:08

I'm so glad you have your scooter Annie you are certainly on the way to recovery with you even thinking of going out around your cul-de-sac on your new "wheels" all we need now is a name for your new transport.

Cathy21 Sun 05-Aug-18 09:28:08

I do EFT and find it effective in many situations for me. I learned from a couple of videos I watched a few years ago .

Elegran Sun 05-Aug-18 09:48:36

Scooter name - Damselflies are electric blue and dart about. That'll suit you on your scooter. pics and identification here The red-eyed damselfly (eyes only red in male!) is found - "South-central England, local in east Wales. Robust with black legs, dark red eyes and small to no shoulder stripe." Other varieties available

Anniebach Sun 05-Aug-18 10:39:52

Elegran, I learn so much from you, have never heard of these little creatures.i am off flies though, the volunteer eco gardeners who are making me a wildflower meadow put feed on my garden tubs which are very near my kitchen door, I now have five fly papers hanging in the kitchen ?

Barmy, you visited Gods Country, did you go back through my village ?

Cathy, I hope it can help me

ReadyMeals, it’s ok

Kitty, I know you are all with me , I won’t choose Bluebird, anyway the scooter can’t manage 300 mph ?

maddyone Sun 05-Aug-18 11:36:43

Oh Annie, I’m so sorry to hear you’re housebound at the moment. I’ve never heard of EFT but the other ladies sound very positive, and in any case, it’s worth trying anything that might work. The lady practitioner says she will come to your house, that’s ideal. I hope and pray it will be successful for you. You are in my thoughts.

GabriellaG Sun 05-Aug-18 11:36:52

Will your daughter not let you stay with her for a while to get you out of the house. Door to door would not be a strain and might prove beneficial.
There are many dvds and cds available which purport to help with various fears and your local mobile library might be able to assist in that regard.
Have you a friend who would be kind enough to start some short walks with you? I'm sure that you must shop so how is that managed?
I hope you find some useful advice that can enable you to overcome your fears but my recommendation would be hypnotism.
The first step is the hardest but you have taken many 'first steps' and can do this. shamrockflowers

Hm999 Sun 05-Aug-18 12:00:15

Good luck Annie

icanhandthemback Sun 05-Aug-18 12:03:11

Annie you have already taken the first step in your journey to conquer this awful phobia. Whatever you do, do it in small steps and remember, if you have a step backwards it is normal so really a step in the right direction. Regardless of whether the therapy is the right complementary treatment, it seems like you have made a valuable connection with someone with good memories and a desire to be helpful. I think you have made a friend too. Good luck with your journey.

rocketstop Sun 05-Aug-18 12:22:23

Dear Annie,
I thin k you should call your scooter 'Freedom' because I think it will set you free from your current state.
I think you are already being very brave and doing incredibly well to take your happiness into your own hands and do something to improve your situation. Good for you and well done.
You don't know me, or I you, but I am wishing you well and urging you on. Good Luck.flowers

midgey Sun 05-Aug-18 12:45:23

Annie, I think you should call your scooter Beetle, you will one day be beetling around againgrin

Anniebach Sun 05-Aug-18 12:52:55

Again thank you all x

Maddy, i can but try

Gabriella my younger daughter lives in Lincolnshire, I live in Wales, I can’t get to the end of my garden path so 220 miles is out

I shop on line and if stuck for something my son in law who isn’t or my son in law will get it for me from town, but I manage ok with Tesco and Amazon.

The practioner is a hypnotherapist, not sure because there are things I don’t want my thoughts taken to. Not ready yet.

Hm99, icanhandthem back, thank you.

rocketstop, I didn’t know you but I do now, hello

I must add I brought this agoraphobia on myself, i wanted to hide from the world but took it too far and then it became stronger than me. Anyone who has that feeling, ‘I don’t want to go out ‘ ignore it and go out , I never, ever thought it could happen to me, but it has. There was a time when I planned to drive to Turin, daughters threw a wobbly so I didn’t . Please be aware of how sly a thing it is.

Auntieflo Sun 05-Aug-18 13:18:42

Anniebach, you will have to call your scooter "Razzle", as in ' out on the Razzle!!
I have come fairly late to this thread, but you have had some amazing advice and with everyones thoughta and prayers behind you, you can't fail my lovely.
So onwards, upwards and outwards on Razzle. Happy journeys
