Not such good news

I’ve seen some footage of their parents watching footage of the boys (IYSWIM). It might even have been a live
link to the cave- it was heartbreaking and utterly impossible to begin to imagine how it feels. But isn’t it amazing how all these experts, volunteers came together so quickly from all quarters of the world and are all just united in the one aim. That brings a lump to my throat as to what humanity is capable of.

It is a mistake to assume that a lack of comment on GN shows a lack of interest, on this subject or any other.

That is true. It is the first thing I look for on the news on my tablet each morning.
Most of us here have C and GC and it is unthinkable what their families are going through.

What comment can be given. There are no words.

They have managed to get more oxygen in according to the bbc news this am but I m like you Nfkdumpling I can’t think about much else at the moment I keep imagine those poor mums waiting so helplessly and the boys must be scared stiff and the poor coach who has made an apology to the parents must be eaten with guilt and regrets he must be going over and over why did I bring them in here ?
I think this weekend will be the critical time for getting them out

Nfk dumpling, you have summed up exactly how I feel, and no doubt many others. Just my prayers for them all, the trapped, the rescuers and the families.

I am hoping that some very bright experienced people can come up with a solution. It's a shame they can't be put it in oxygenated pods and pulled through. Even drilling a hole towards them would mean you could get more oxygen in.
Surely there are mining experts somewhere who could help?

I read in today’s DT that Elon Musk is to help.
ELON MUSK, the billionaire entrepreneur, yesterday dispatched engineers from his companies, SpaceX and The Boring Company, to Thailand to help with the rescue of 12 boys and their football coach who have been trapped for two weeks in the Tham Luang caves of northern Chiang Rai province.

It's a desperately sad situation, isn't it? My heart goes out to them all - the trapped boys and coach, their families, the rescuers and the family of the poor diver who list his life.
Battling nature is going to be so hard, but I pray for a positive outcome.

I too think it's a very difficult task. I do hope they succeed. The 'what if they don't' does not bear thinking about. Just going to read articles thank you bluebelle .

I was watching a documentary about the British cave divers on YouTube which was fascinating. They have carried out a number of rescues around the world and are known as the A Team. They were called in when someone was buried in an avalanche and they got him out safely, also in Mexico and in France. The Mexico one caused a bit of an international incident as the Mexican government offered help that was not accepted as they wanted to wait for the British team. The tracked the boys by footsteps but if you imagine looking for them in the dark with only torches while you are in water and mud it was quite a feat.
There are teams in the forest as well closing holes that would let the water in but also digging in places that look like possible entry ways. The cave hasn't been mapped so it is difficult to know what they would be digging down to and whether they would be near the boys.
People on social media who start comments with 'why don't they … ' annoy me. As if they aren't thinking of every possibility and facebook is the place to find an answer.

haven't posted before but not because of lack of interest BlueBelle, but praying hard for this to be resolved in a way we can all rejoice. I was born in Thailand so have a deep connection. Just proves what a small world we are and if sports (aka world cup) and tragedy, like this can unite us in common humanity and spirit we can hope for the future for our world, Rest in peace to the diver and thanks to those who are with the boys - Im sure everyone of us would be if we could in life or in spirit - but all willing them on.

If they get these poor lads out the first thing they should do is to prosecute the two leaders for gross negligence.
It will be cause for celebration if they do get them out
I hope the leaders do not get any praise or try to look like heros for their total stupidity.
This is a classic moment to praise our UK attitude to health and safety. Caves and mountains can be very dangerous.

BlueBelle . Good to see a billionaire putting resources to help - and thanks to everyone who goes to the trouble to give us links to read the truth not speculation. I recall someone posting an unkind comment about the man in Grenfell whose fridge exploded - insinuations he got his family out and had time to rescue belongings. That man because of social media had threats to his life and as the inquest proves was innocent.

Have been following this closely on the news. Heart breaking. Hoping they can get the boys out safely, but it looks like an impossible task. Let's all keep our fingers crossed for a miracle.

I have followed this on the news but not on social media. Everyone can come up with a “Why don’t they...” but unless you have been in a cave you can’t appreciate the difficulties that can be encountered. The system under discussion seems to run the gamut of these difficuties. All caves are wet to some extent (you will never come out of the most benign systems dry, that’s for sure!), but some systems can flood in minutes as a result of sudden unexpected rainfall. I am praying for these boys, and am thankful that the Thai government are accepting all the help that is offered to back up their own efforts and resources.

IMO, the blame lies squarely on the coach who was stupid not to realise that rains were imminent. To take youngsters into dangerous situations without a thought as to what might happen when/if flooding occured, particularly and especially as none of the boys are swimmers and certainly not divers...was ridiculous and incompetent in the extreme.
I'm hoping, as we all are, that no more lives are lost in this rescue attempt.
