Well I believe it is Rufus2 91st on the 8th. We are holding an impromptu virtual party for him. All you need to do is say what you are bringing or doing and what you will wear.

Rufus has promised to be on his best behaviour ?

I will be DJing and wearing a rather fetching sparkly purple jump suit. And before you ask Rufus you can't come in your Birthday suit, this is a respectable party.

Over to you.

NanKate Thu 05-Jul-18 14:28:29

Love the outfit Eglantine this is definitely turning into a posh party.

Someone by the name of Meghan left a message on my phone asking for an invite. She said her new husband might come too but we must keep our hands off him as he tends to be good with old folk, children and corgis.?

NonnaW Thu 05-Jul-18 14:43:38

I’ll bring the party poppers and blowers. I’ll be wearing my wedding dress (no, not the big white affair, an elegant silk dress which I wore for my second wedding).

ninathenana Thu 05-Jul-18 14:49:50

NanKate I'm off to practice my curtsy
Elgatine lovely outfit.
Just had a 'ding' moment. I will bring Kentish strawberries too.

ninathenana Thu 05-Jul-18 14:50:54

Eglantine......sorry blush

Rufus2 Thu 05-Jul-18 15:07:57

what you will wear.
in a very posh frock, jewels and Tiara,
Let’s have a double party Ann I am sure Rufus won’t mind

Awesome! Is there any way to post "the way you look tonight" pics?
And it's a shame Ann, we can't make our appearance hand in hand to cheers of acclamation and the singing of Happy Birthday! Sadly, I won't be able to walk you home, but seems like I won't be fit enough to do any sort of walking afterwards! sad
And with all the "livewires" attending I'll be at risk of blowing a fuse! Never mind, I'm only 91 once. grin
I used to think I was immortal, but now I'm not so sure.
I've given NanKate another item for my play list; Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen, (any Samanthas coming?)
So start brushing up your jiving techniques. grin

Well! It's nearly midnight and don't know how I'm going to sleep with all this excitement.

Catch up tomorrow. Goodnight and Good Health

Pittcity Thu 05-Jul-18 15:12:36

Seeing as how Rufus2 is in the middle of winter and the night....the party will be starting early....is it ok to have cake for breakfast?

Marydoll Thu 05-Jul-18 15:18:00

Well Rufus,
It's going to be a whale of a party, I have a surprise for you and it involves seven veils. wink
The whale bit refers to when the veils are discarded. Some have said I resemble a beached whale! grin.
I may decide to retain some of the veils, ( in fact I may have to double the number of whales) as at your grand old age, we need to be mindful of your blood pressure. shock

allsortsofbags Thu 05-Jul-18 15:19:11

Wishing all the Birthday Boys and Girls a Very BIG Happy Birthday. I wanted to say that now before the party started as I amy not be legible after grin

With the numbers growing I think it's only fair that we have some additional Champagne so put me down for that so we won't go short or even worse - run out -grin

And I can rustle up some GF cup cakes as an addition to the cake supply.

If it still fits I shall be wearing a long green/grey Hobbs silk dress. First worn for a friends wedding and last worn at the St Ledger Ladies Day so it's due an outing.

I do love a party and it sounds as if the company will be outstanding.

Marydoll Thu 05-Jul-18 15:19:12

That should read "double the veils", or perhaps triple them, just to be sure.

chicken Thu 05-Jul-18 15:56:33

It's my birthday soon too--Friday 13th!--so it might be safer if I come to this party instead. Seeing as it's so hot, can I just come in a wet towel? I'll bring some big bags of ice and a couple of bottles to sit in them.

NatashaGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 05-Jul-18 16:39:41

We hope you don't mind Rufus2 but we've made an invitation for you grin.

Feel free to share it with this link to the thread: bit.ly/2tXaoi1

callgirl1 Thu 05-Jul-18 16:53:36

I`ll bring a double chocolate gateau, and some ice cold per cider.
I`m thinking of wearing a red dress that I bought a few years ago for my eldest son`s wedding, then on the day had to cover up because the neckline insisted on drooping a little too much. However, in this weather it will be too warm to cover up, so hopefully Rufus won`t mind a low neckline?

callgirl1 Thu 05-Jul-18 16:54:04

PEAR cider!

Oopsadaisy53 Thu 05-Jul-18 16:55:39

I was thinking of wearing this but I’m worried it’s not posh enough

Maggiemaybe Thu 05-Jul-18 17:23:22

I’m so excited! I’ve managed to snap up one of the as-recommended-by-Gransnet germolene pink frontierswoman frocks in the M & S sale! As you can imagine, I had to be up early and wrestle several other grans to get my hands on it. I just can’t wait for Sunday!

BlueBelle Thu 05-Jul-18 17:36:20

I m a bit late but would love to come too I ve got some ice cold cider in the fridge and a raspberry pavlova just waiting to be eaten
Happy birthday to any July babes and bros ?

Oopsadaisy53 Thu 05-Jul-18 17:42:50

maggiemaybe was it you who rugby tackled me on the way to the changing room and stole that lovely Germolene frock out of my hands?

Now what will I do with the matching ruched hat and shoes?

Marydoll Thu 05-Jul-18 19:48:13

Do you think we should have a cordoned off VIP area for all the July birthday people? We could have Rufus sitting on a throne, surrounded by all the lovely birthday girls, wearing birthday crowns.
I'm sure we still have some drain cleaner cocktails left in the Argy cellar.
If we pour it into champagnes flutes, they will never know the difference.

NanKate Thu 05-Jul-18 21:13:16

Marydoll I have laughed and laughed at the vision of you doing the seven veils. Perhaps we should hire a defibrillator in case Rufus comes all over unnecessary at your performance.

My grandparents were in the Music Hall so perhaps I should do a turn such as ‘There is a green eyed yellow idol to the north of Katmandu’. Or would you prefer my snake act with the python ? ?

NanKate Thu 05-Jul-18 21:16:48

Maybe those of you who have got your hands on the germolene coloured dress could line up for a Beauty Contest. Who shall we have as a judge, I know quite a few of you fancy Rufus Sewell. I wonder if he is the son/grandson of our Rufus wouldn’t that be a happy coincidence?

Maggiemaybe Fri 06-Jul-18 00:29:28

Well, Oopsadaisy, you snooze, you lose. grin I’m working on my accessories now. I’m sure M & S won’t let me down.

NanKate, you’re dicing with death approaching Rufus Sewell. He belongs to another.....

Jane10 Fri 06-Jul-18 05:27:43

Could we possibly do a virtual hokey cokey? It's my favourite ever dance and I don't get to do it any more. I'd have to put my right stick in, my right stick out etc.
Whatever we do I'll be wearing my fetching TED stockings!

NanKate Fri 06-Jul-18 07:16:23

What a good idea Jane we will have Rufus at the front. We will know you as you will have dancing Ted all up your stockings. What are TED stockings by the way?

Now Maggie you may be a follower of Rufus Sewell but there will be no shenanigans at this party ? we have certain standards to uphold.

Rufus2 Fri 06-Jul-18 07:22:44

so hopefully Rufus won`t mind a low neckline?
Callgirl; Not in the least! But how low is "low"? My mind boggles!
Normally I require a preliminary private viewing before entertaining a lady, but time is of the essence here so I'll have to trust your decorum and give you the tick of approval. grin
Anyway, I hope you'll have Plan B ready in case it all comes unstuck. wink
