Yes they do make a bit of a meal out of every little bump and knock don’t they Maw ? I think they’re taught to do it .

Not really complaining about the licence fee ( tv tax) itself just that I would have liked to watch the World Cup on my computer at work when I’m sitting on my own for long periods of time . Turns out my £150.50 doesn’t cover that .

Great stuff BBC and keep up making the British viewing public the envy of the world

G'Day Grandad; As you may have noticed already I'm here in OZ singing the praises of Aussie TV.
What's not to like about "no TV licence fees"? umpteen free- to- air TV channels which broadcast a whole barrage of BBC docs, World news, sitcoms, Midsummer Murders Stephen Fry, Joanne Lumley travel docs, Michael Portillo, EPL soccer (live, if you're a night-owl like me: otherwise record and watch at leisure next day or whenever; also ad-free), the list is almost endless and all for free!
You'll notice I haven't included "comedy"; I'd need to be paid to watch modern TV comedy, especially of the "stand-up"foul-mouthed variety which has appeared to have become the BBC norm. But I guess we are all different.
Being rather "ancient" I prefer DVDs (you can get a lot of those for £150.50) and YouTube for all the good old comedy classics.
I wouldn't say "envy", but perhaps you could give me a list of BBC (or other channels) progs to show some of the progs. I"m not getting (and not paying for).
We left England 47 years ago and broadcasting standards have certainly changed over there.

Apparently I need a workplace licence even if I’m on my own and it’s my own company Jalima Crackers isn’t it ? I can watch on my phone but I can’t see the enjoyment in that.

Anyway I enjoyed the Mexico v Germany match today . Germany were expected to win so I was happy for Mexico who won

That seems unfair, gillybob. Could you not watch on a personal laptop not plugged into the mains? I'm trying to make sense of the TV Licensing website here (not an easy task)!

It is confusing isn’t it Maggie apparently the device has to be battery powered not able to run on the mains ?????

It bugs me that they lump all businesses together . I’m sat on my own most days . No public coming and going either .

Looking forward to watching the England match tonight with my grandson. He asked me if I had my England strip to wear while we watched. Yikes.

I won't advise you to watch it in case you got caught - but those detector vans don't go round any more ...

And you should have advised Gillybob and her Grandson to yell every time England score, not just when.! If the detectors exist and are around they'll let you off anyway when England win!

BTW; Our free-to-air TV Soccer channel is showing all 3 matches tonight live, end to end, with no adverts.
How about that for customer service? The envy of the soccer world!.

I'm afraid I won't have the stamina to last out to 3 a.m. to cheer England on as promised; at least I'll be watching the full ad-free repeat tomorrow!

Gilly is it really the case that it's not allowed to watch live sport on PC without a workplace licence? I have always peeked at BBC sports coverage of tennis during Wimbledon, had no idea it might be illegal!

One of the reasons I chose my OH to marry was that he was not remotely interested in football (or indeed any other sport) and I figured this would mean I would never have this inflicted on me on the TV at home - hooray!

However, now that he has very poor mobility and is at home all the time, he has decided to watch the world cup - help!! I think I will creep off to the bedroom and watch Vera on the little TV!

I didn't think that DH was that interested but he seems to be developing an interest as he gets older

I've got my headphones on so I can listen to some calming music whilst watching.

I can hear muttering and occasional shouting from the other room.
