I'm on a rollercoaster

This week I have witnessed the birth of my beautiful dgd followed by a serious emergency with her mum (My dd). I've never been so frightened. Thankfully she pulled through & is doing ok. I really thought we were going to lose her ?.
Two days later I said goodbye to a very dear friend. She had been battling on for months. She was brave and stubborn and beautiful inside and out ❤. A relief that she's finally at peace but I'm so very very sad.
My heart doesn't know if it's coming or going!
I'm very lucky to have a good support of friends to see each other through the funeral when it happens and to remember her together.
Just needed to say it and have a cry in private because I'm putting on a facade of 'I'm fine' for everyone ?

flowers flowers You are having such a hard time.

Congratulations on the good news of your DGD. Hang on to that to help you through the bad times. [hugs]

Yes, that’s how we get through isn’t it? Brave face in public, crying inside.

Thank goodness your DD and DGD are well and congratulations on the new arrival xx

What contrasts purplepoppies, you must be exhausted.

Many congratulations on the birth of your granddaughter, so pleased your daughter is stronger and recovering now.

My condolences for the loss of your dear friend. Grief and joy are difficult to process together, so why wouldn’t you be struggling with it all? I’m so pleased you have good friends to support you. You don’t mention a partner or husband, does that mean you live alone? If so your friends will be even more needed right now.

Please don’t try to pretend, you don’t have to be ‘fine’, it is OK to just be as you are, don’t put yourself under pressure to be any particular way.

Keep talking to us if it helps. Always someone here to listen. Sending virtual hugs and flowers.

Purplepoppies Fri 18-May-18 07:25:10

Thank you for your kind words. Yes I'm (eternally) single.
I read on another thread the other day that grief is just love with nowhere to go. (Thank you to the lovely lady/gent who said that). It really resonated with me.
I'm totally exhausted but have to keep going. I don't sleep well as it is.
I'm glad dd has a supportive partner but I'm still available to help them when they need me. Keeping busy is a saving grace I think.

What a week you've had, the highs and lows of life in a few days.
Sorry about your friend but it's good to hear your daughter is doing ok.
Congratulations to you and your daughter on the newest member of the family. Enjoy her now, she will help you cope over the next few weeks.

Dear PP sent you a PM.

Aren’t we lucky to have so many supportive friends on GN.

How lovely a new baby. ?

sodapop Fri 18-May-18 08:33:48

Indeed a roller coaster PP so pleased about the new baby and that your daughter is recovering now. Don't bottle up your feelings, its ok to grieve for your friend as well as being happy for your family. Is there anyone you can talk to in real life about your friend ?
Lots of support here though flowers

My dear Purple poppies, you are certainly having a very rough ride at this moment in time.My heart simply goes out to you.
Yet the strange and beautiful happening in your life (as I have witnessed time and time again) is as you loose a dearly beloved, there is a new birth.
I know that does not mean one has made way for the other, but it gives your grieving heart something pleasant to focus on, and it gives back a message of hope.

Whilst of course, almost losing your own beautiful daughter would have torn you to shreds.
Such elements of raw pain in a very short space of time hurts so deeply.

In a short space of time your emotions have had a real roller coaster to deal with and I am sure you are completely spent deep inside.

However speaking out, sharing your pain, your grief.............not forgetting your joy too.............it is most cathartic and I hope and trust it has served you well.

Assuring you of all our understanding and knowing each one of us are also supporting you along with your family and friends hopefully will be a real consolation.

I am quite happy to talk with you privately if you think it might help some more.

I am another with this silly grin and forced smile far too often, but I am............at long last.........learning the value to speak up,speak out, tell it as it is.
Furthermore I feel better afterwards.

So wishing you continued blessings with the full recovery of your daughter and much pleasure with the new little babe.............whilst of course grieving will take its own time.

Thinking of you dear Purplepoppies..........[flowers} and some [ sunshine] needed in your life for sure.

It is so strange isn't it when this happens. My mother died 2 days after I watched my DD give birth to a little girl - I did not know what to feel.

She is now about to be 13 and is asking for "rat accessories" for her birthday!!!!

Panache - a new baby! - how wonderful. A new life. flowers

GrandmaMoira Fri 18-May-18 09:28:14

Sorry for your loss. Congratulations on your new DGC and glad your daughter is okay.

Purplepoppies Fri 18-May-18 09:36:18

I knew you would all be wonderfully supportive and have kind words of support and encouragement. It means so much. Thank you ❤

glammanana Fri 18-May-18 09:40:51

Such a sad and happy time for you PP my OH and I are going to the funeral of his best friend of 50yrs+ today and it will be a very sad day for him,we are also overjoyed at the birth of our 2nd GGC (little boy) 2 weeks ago and the birth of a DGD from our DS & DIL at the beginning of the week so today we are a family of very mixed emotions.
Take care of yourself and keep posting and let us know how your DD is recovering.flowers

littleflo Fri 18-May-18 10:44:23

This is such good news. Sometimes after a traumatic birth Mother can suffer from PTSS. This can occur any time and take the mum quite by surprise as they are unaware how much birth trauma can affect them. My DiL had it two years after the birth. Fortunately by son is in the medical profession and was quickly able to recognise the signs and get her therapy.

Obviously you won’t say anything to your DD, but if she does become unwell, for unexplainable reasons, it may be worth investigating this.

Of course it is not all mothers, but we were in a much better place to help my DiL by knowing the full facts.

Afeica33 Fri 18-May-18 12:50:32

Purplepoppies I had quite a similar experience, witnessing my DD's emergency C section go horribly wrong. Thankfully it all ended ok, mainly down to the fact the head consultant was on call but, it could quite easily have ended in a different way.
I think the sheer relief numbs any real feelings and it actually wasn't until I was back at work that something triggered my memory and I ended up having a total meltdown.
I still undergo counselling 5 years after, which helps tremendously.
I'm sure all my friends and family would think I would be the last person to succumb to PTSD but I've accepted the fact this is what it is and deal with it accordingly.
Sending warm hugs and congratulations on the birth of your DGD flowers

Synonymous Fri 18-May-18 13:54:27

Purplepoppies congratulations on the new baby and that your DD is recovering. These are the things to hold on to so that you can keep smiling. Always sad to lose a dear friend and I hope you will allow yourself to grieve properly. Bottling things up and putting on a brave face are more harmful than many of us realise so do 'break the sound barrier' and talk about your loss as it will do you good to release some of the emotions which are putting you in a spin. You may well find that in your friendship group you are all really feeling the loss and talking about your friend will help you all. Sharing happy memories of her is a good thing to do and will help you all to smile when you think of her.

Stansgran Fri 18-May-18 14:05:24

Congratulations on the new dgd . I'm glad for your that your daughter out of danger. My mother said when I apologised not being able to get to her mother,s funeral and explained I was pregnant and very sick and had not wanted to worry her while her mother was fading fast" a new life for an old". Grandmother was in her 90s so it wasn't unkind and made me feel I hadn't been thoughtless.

What a rollercoaster of emotions you have been through ! Cry as much as you need to, it so helps letting go of sorrow and will help you stay strong and focus on the positive things in your life ??☀️

Bless you .. you have been through a wonderful event tinged with trauma and ending with sadness of the passing of a dear friend ... look after yourself and take time to grieve your friend ... you are allowed to enjoy your new granddaughter ... I am sure your dear friend would want this for you ... if you feel the need to talk to somebody because of the turmoil you have experienced their are professional counsellors .. it’s not for everybody but counselling always helps me .. I had many bereavements in an 18 months period and counselling helped me so
Much ... congratulations on the birth of your darling Grandaughter .. a true blessing for your all ?

grief is the price they say for love. You've been through a frightening time and then a loss which has shown you how fragile and precious life is and how much we should never take it for granted. No wonder you feel like a butterfly in a hurricane. But I dealt with the loss of my beloved parents by re-reading over and over again this wonderful poem www.poemhunter.com/poem/death-is-nothing-at-all/ I do say their name and laugh and remember - and one day I'll walk through a door into that same room and find find family and friends who have gone before waiting to wlecome me, as I willl my loved ones when it is their time. Sending much love and hope friendships here although we may never meet in person do sustain you.
