Tattoos

I would have a very small dove. I would have it on my ankle.
Don’t think it will happen though. My husband is very against it.

Had one at the base of my back for years - anywhere else with sagging skin looks awful. Both my sons have them - the youngest is a musician so it kind of went with the job, the eldest has more but didn't start with them till he was in his 20's - none are visible in his normal work wear. My DiL and GD both have matching ones on their wrists and on their feet which are small and quite pretty. Having seen so many young girls covered in full sleeves, down their necks and even on their faces at music festivals it saddens me as they don't think of the consequences when they're older - either needing to wear formal dresses or when your old skin sags and wrinkles.

That said if you want a tattoo and have a small pretty pattern in mind I'd go for it - where you put it is up to you. Some areas are much more painful to do!!

DD works for an association that oversees safety of products such as inks, dyes and paints and she says that tattoo inks are not regulated. You could be introducing virtually anything into your skin.

M daughter was talked into a large one on her back,when her marriage broke up.Now we know the "lady" who talked her into it was sleeping with my ex son in law it makes me wonder about her motives!I hated it from day one,my D regrets getting it but says at least its on her lower back and rarely seen .

Personally I wouldn’t even contemplate it. DS has one on his stomach and though I understand the reason for it, I don’t like it. I’m sure tattoo artists can be talented but the one who did my DS’s birth date knew nothing about Roman numerals!

I don't understand the logic of having tattoos much less the logic behind
them being a reminder of a person, place or thing. They are often in a place where only others can see them...so no real point. Why 'honour' someone in that way? There isn't anything 'honourable' in mutilating your skin.
I think it's weird when 60-80yr old women say they are 'grown up enough' to have a small tatt somewhere discreet. That's simply a ridiculous statement.

Yuk! Loathe them. Have detested them all my life and will, I’m sure, continue to do so. The garish colour choices are hideous.
To me, they look dirty and give a person a seedy air.
Phew, glad I got that off my chest - venom free for the rest of the day.

I've said this on here before many moons ago that the only one I want is DNR on my forehead when I go into the carehome.

I dislike the permanence of tattoos. We are all capable of changing our minds, and tattoos are very difficult and painful to get rid of.
Small delicate ones are ok I suppose, but I keep thinking of that huge affair of giant red roses that Cheryl Whassername had done on her bottom. Her pretty little bum looked like a slab of raw meat - very disfiguring!

I too always hated tattoos, despite my ds having 3 at my current count. However much like other things the world is changing. My own mother hated seeing women in trousers, imagine us judging each other based on that now?

With regards to job prospects, I suspect that will change with the current generations. The Midwife who delivered my dgs apparently had a very beautiful tattoo, which my her, my ds and dil discussed. Why would they have had any issue with her having a tattoo when the baby’s father had spent a small fortune on them?

I have Bastet the Egyptian cat Goddess on my arm, I like tattoos but wouldn't go over the top with them, it's a personal choice, just as everyone has different taste in make-up, clothes, jewellery and hair styles,

Not something that i would get done.

Not a fan of them myself however my Dad had one on his left forearm (had it done out in the far East during WW2) It was very discreet because he had very hairy arms but I loved looking at it when I was a child as it was a small heart with an arrow going through it and my Mum' s name IVY in it. My daughter has a little bird on her shoulder - she had to wear a matching bolero to her dress when she was a bridesmaid at her brother's wedding as the bride didn't approve and didn't want it on view as they walked down the aisle.

Rather alarmingly my DH has started talking about wanting one at the grand age of 58! He said he wants one of his beloved road bike but I think he's trying to wind me up - not that I would object. He keeps talking about growing a beard which seem to be trendy just now, but that hasn't materialised either.

Nice enough on the young but imagine it on old wrinkled skin.

I was devestated when my then 18 year old daughter had one.
Her perfect body defaced.
She is now a 35 year old Mum and wants it removed so her daughter doesn’t want one eventually!!

Just had a look at Tattoo fails and have to admit , some are horrible, especially on peoples faces,I personally don't like tongue piercing, it makes me feel sick when I see it,

There’s nothing wrong with having a small tattoo inside your wrist. Or a small tasteful one somewhere that only a partner would see. It’s when people are covered in random tattoos which aren’t very well done and smudgy that they look vile. I don’t like tattoos at all, but I can’t see a problem with just something small like a butterfly, specially if it’s where no one can see it! I can’t stand the full sleeves or when people have got them right up their neck and every available inch of skin, and even nowadays on their faces and heads!!! I never thought I’d see that! I work in Southend and in my lunch break I saw a woman with her husband and small children and she had tattoos all over her neck and visible boobs of the faces of her children. OMG it looked hideous. By the way the OM one mentioned by someone I think was quite tasteful.

I have a small spray of flowers on my foot, one for each of my DC and DGS and it's pretty and delicate. However, DS has now presented us with a DGD and DIL, SIL and StepGS all wanted to be included. So as it's my big 7-0 this year I'm having a new one done on my other foot, which is badly scarred from a scooter accident in my 'mod' days. I've never really had a surprise so I have put implicit trust in DD to have one designed to include all 10 of us and to cover the scar. I'm very excited - she's terrified!

Not for me but I would never judge anyone who chooses to have them. Can't say I like the ones which cover the face, neck and arms but as someone said, each to their own.

I had a dear friend who would have a small tattoo for every year she survived cancer - she got to 5 (still miss her)

Symbol of the 3 of us getting through tough times on back of shoulder as everywhere else is sagging.

If I ever had one, it would be “DNR” on the inside of my wrist.
Otherwise, although a very small discreet tat is pretty, I’m not a great fan of the ginormous all over ones.
