As an English expatriate having lived in Melbourne for 47 years, I was thrilled to hear we have a new Prince, as yet un-named. grin

Sixth in line, eh! The queue's getting longer by the day and will (soon?) be even longer when Harry and Merkel start doing their stuff. wink
Poor Harry; bumped out of 6th. spot. sad
Just wonder how long the new one will have to wait before ascending the throne?

Realising I'm not immortal (after all), I'll have to miss that one. smile
As a loyal subject, I bow my knee and wish them all well. grin
So long as they promise to displace TV coverage of the forthcoming Aussie Rules football season. Awful!. grin

Incidentally, were any Gransnetters present in the welcoming crowd outside the hospital when the new Prince emerged?
I'd love to read postings about their experiences; how they felt, etc.

The media down here are going to "go bananas" for months , if not years. Talk about TV coverage, waiting breathlessly for his first smile, first burp, first this and that! smile
Waiting for the next bulletin.!
Good Health

Well you shouldn’t have to bow to anyone if you don’t want to I certainly wouldn’t to any of them they are only human beings but that aside it’s absolurtely not any of our business whether it’s love lust or hopefully both for Harry and Meghan Three out of four of the queens kids have been divorced so they don’t have much of a record to beat do they ?

Am I the only one who read (ages ago) that Harry had been watching Suits (in which Meghan Markle starred) and he commented that he really fancied/lusted after her. So an aristocratic friend who owned a nightclub and a friend of MM's who knew the nightclub owner, set them up on a blind date.

Now, if you are a little known actress (actor) and a British prince wanted to meet you/fancied you, I imagine you'd be very flattered. After the initial meeting they got out their diaries and arranged to meet again. How nice that he could whisk her off to Africa on a private flight for a bit of luxury camping with servants in tow. I cannot imagine any woman not being bowled over. And of course it's done wonders for her profile.

Like others, I wonder just how suited (no pun intended) they are? Apparently he is having a yoga retreat/detox stag do, because she is into yoga and very health conscious. How long will Harry go along with that? I find him a bit of a disappointment.

Having read all that (and of course I have no idea if it's true) I do have my doubts about MM being the right woman for Harry. I must admit I loathe all the virtue signalling from them too . The "I care" profile is rather sickening I find, but probably because after they've been "down viv da kids" in Brixton or wherever, they are chauffeur driven off to a palace and a meal prepared for them. I'd rather they gave money to good causes tbh. In between "caring" gigs they'll be at a yoga retreat in some exotic location no doubt grin

I wish the new baby prince well but he will have little pressure in life. Harry can now be the playboy Prince, albeit with a wife, and Charlotte and the new baby will have very little pressure either. It does make me think that enough is enough and really only the top man/woman and their family - the immediate heir - should be living this life of huge privilege. I'd like to see everyone after George having to support themselves. There is enough money in the personal coffers after all.

The older I get the more I dislike the kow-towing to the royal family, their privilege, wealth and inherited luxurious lifestyle. We should not be required to fund their outings and security. Just what does Prince Andrew do to deserve any privilege, for example?

Let's just say I hope I am never required to bow to Meghan Markle.

Purplepoppies Tue 24-Apr-18 18:24:17

I'm another one who can't bring myself to get excited by the royals.
Lots of ladies had babies yesterday.....
In the photos the baby looked very clean. My expectant dd recently told me the new advice is babies shouldn't be bathed until the umbilical cord has dropped off incase of infection!! ?

marionk Tue 24-Apr-18 17:14:28

Annsixty I was saying the same to my husband just this morning - all that sweetness.......

Hm999 Tue 24-Apr-18 16:57:45

I think Harry and Meghan may bring Royal Family into C21st. A woman who made her own money, and with her own mind - brilliant. Exactly the role model I want to see for my daughter and granddaughter.

Mapleleaf Tue 24-Apr-18 16:41:26

P.S, I agree with newnanny regarding the new baby.

Mapleleaf Tue 24-Apr-18 16:39:36

It’s rather sad there are, once again, some really unpleasant comments being made here about various members or soon to be members of the royal family.
I would like to ask you do you know Prince Harry personally GabriellaG to say “he is weak”. Where do you get that opinion from? Maybe he is, maybe he isn’t, but I don’t know him so am not in a position to pass such a comment about him.
Equally, the unkind comments being passed about Meghan Markle are being made by people who have never met her. I can’t comment on what she is like because I do not know her. She seems OK, but I don’t know for sure.
Don’t forget, the media do an awful lot of hype around anyone in the public eye, whoever they are, and some of the media will go over the top in their praises, painting quite unrealistic portrayals, and others will go over the top in nasty critisisms which again is painting an unrealistic picture. Somewhere in the middle, there may be some grains of truth. None of us, whatever our walk of life, are always perfect or always horrible. We all have moments when we are grumpy so and so’s and other moments when we are quite charming and friendly. It’s being human.

newnanny Tue 24-Apr-18 16:37:10

Well I love a new baby so good luck to the new prince. I wonder what he will be called? I have heard Arthur and James are apparently favorite names with the bookmakers. I wonder if he will be called Alfred (Alfie). Any other suggestions anyone?

Jalima1108 Tue 24-Apr-18 16:35:35

when Harry and Merkel start doing their stuff.
Is this the latest celeb gossip then? Prince Harry and Frau Angela Merkel?

Has anyone told Meghan?
confused

BlueBelle Tue 24-Apr-18 16:05:14

Rufus I accept your apology and thankful you are big enough to offer it I don’t like to hear any woman referred to by her surname only it’s just not nice, it may work in boys boarding schools but it’s not nice in day to day life

I can’t understand all the ‘against’ Meghan Merkel posts when no one really knows anyth8ng about her, poor lass she can’t do right for doing wrong She seems to make Harry very happy judging by the photos so good on them He’s not in line for leading the country so hopefully they both just get on with their life

Jalima1108 Tue 24-Apr-18 15:58:08

I was joking when I said that in my post to Rufus shock

Anniebach Tue 24-Apr-18 15:56:38

One woman had camped near the hospital for fifteen days

lemongrove Tue 24-Apr-18 15:49:59

Well, some people will wave flags, placards etc for any old reason, they must get something out of it.

GillT57 Tue 24-Apr-18 15:31:58

Am I the only one who felt rather nauseated by the silly ardent fans waving union jacks and standing outside waiting for news? I wish the young family well, as I would wish anyone well, but really, some of the public really do need to get a life!

Jalima1108 Tue 24-Apr-18 15:29:36

She definitely wouldn't look twice at Harry if he was an actor or a company exec. His position drew her and, if the media is correct, that was her goal many years ago.
Probably not, Gabriella, I think what drew them together was their great zeal and interest in charity work, epecially her work for under-privileged women the world over.

I hope they make a great team who, without the shackles of becoming Head of State, will be a force for good in the world.

Jalima1108 Tue 24-Apr-18 15:26:30

Don't tell me nobody went.?
There was a whole posse of Gransnetters standing in the cold, rain, heatwave etc for weeks just to catch a glimpse, Rufus.
Unfortunately, our phones, cameras etc all ran out of charge so no photos unfortunately.

Jalima1108 Tue 24-Apr-18 15:23:51

so it's time to say no more on the civil list once Andrew, Anne and Edward die.

The Civil List is a thing of the past quizqueen - it ceased in 2012 and only HM, Prince Philip and HM the Queen Mother received an income from it.
There is now a Sovereign Grant and I think that HM can apportion the money as she wishes to who is carrying out duties on her behalf.
The Sovereign Grant is paid out of Crown Estate profits - HM receives about 15% as the Grant.

I expect a President would want the whole lot of the profits for a nice new palace, all his extended family and a new Rolls Royce or ten.

Neilspurgeon0 Tue 24-Apr-18 15:14:38

Oh KatyK his very true, we also buy the mail on Saturday only for the TV mag and both the wife and I have started reading on page ten or so, who cares about her previous life, I had girlfriends and my wife had boyfriends before we met, but didn’t want to know about then, same with this girl. I think she deserves to be given a chance to just do Harry some good, he certainly took his time choosing her so I rather fancy they really are in love and will stick together, I certainly hope so, can’t be easy choosing to stick your life into the goldfish bowl.

gillybob Tue 24-Apr-18 14:43:45

Harry is in the same position as Andrew was

A playboy prince then ? wink

Rufus2 Tue 24-Apr-18 14:39:04

I feel some affinity with the Royals because when we lived in Windsor we regularly exercised our border collie (Rufus, would you believe) in the Great Park. smile

We were even allowed to watch them playing polo and I felt then ,being a gentleman, that I could have slipped into that lifestyle quite comfortably. grin
Alas, 'twas not to be.!
Thank you all for your potted histories of the Royals.
Looks like Prince Andrew may be due for a "bump" when Harry and Meghan ( thanks for that correction) get cracking. smile
But I'm still waiting to see posts from anyone standing outside the hospital.! How they felt at that defining moment? Don't tell me nobody went.? shock
I suppose when his names are proclaimed, the media clamor will go up a few notches.
Can't wait. sad

It's nearly midnight and my bedtime so Goodnight and Good health.

Caledonai14 Tue 24-Apr-18 13:40:15

Just wanted to point out that the Queen is currently on the throne.

Prince Charles is 1st in line to the throne
Prince William is second "
Prince George is third "
Princess Charlotte is fourth "
Prince Newborn is fifth
Prince Harry is sixth "
Prince Andrew is seventh "
etc

Heirs and spares aplenty.

quizqueen Tue 24-Apr-18 13:27:00

I believe Meghan's actual first name is Rachel. We will have enough royals if she and Harry have a family so it's time to say no more on the civil list once Andrew, Anne and Edward die. Anne, sensibly, wanted her children to make their own way in the world so Beatrice and Eugenie, Louise and James should do likewise

lizzypopbottle Tue 24-Apr-18 13:26:56

It was Shakespeare who said, "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players..." in As You Like It, Act II, Scene VII. Just saying.....

MawBroon Tue 24-Apr-18 13:26:43

Too 'out there', often messy hair and inappropriate clothes, leading weak Harry by the nose
Well, that’s Meghan Markle tell’t as we say in Scotland.
How sexist are you being GabriellaG in your comments about her clothes and hair?
“Weak” Harry? Really?
I find it hard to credit how some people are working up such a head of steam about her.
DM readers are presumably at liberty to buy another Sunday paper and frankly, does one, as Rhett Butler said, “Give a damn?”

GabriellaG Tue 24-Apr-18 13:18:24

I'd be very surprised if the new Prince was named Albert, given the connotations behind a Prince Albert piercing.
