Gillybob, you are among friends, and no-one thought you were rambling.
I hope your husband is a bit better.
Things that (sometimes unreasonably) get on your nerves...hopefully lighthearted
After Ant’s arrest for drink driving will he come back? Do we care? They’ve built a lucrative career out of being wholesome Geordie cheeky chappies. Will it now just be Dec.? Or will he be teamed up with someone like Holly Willoughby? (Apologies to those that will now moan about the shallow nature of celebrity gossip I’m awake early and was just thinking about it)

Thank you MaryDoll I just had climbing and drinking running through my head all night and had to read it all back when I got to work (to see what rubbish I had written) . Maybe not as bad as it could have been
You know when you don’t drink for a while and then you have a glass of something and it goes straight to your head....well that was me last night. I never usually drink on a school night either .
DH just plodding on. I can’t keep him away from work (he has been sneaking out just after 6 some mornings) but then by early afternoon he’s shattered and the slurring and struggling for words gets worse. He really won’t be told! He’s taking all his meds and his BP has come down quite significantly which is a very good thing. Lots of follow ups and appointments over the next few weeks. Thank you for your kind words MD Gransnet at its best.
Gilly, I didn't know your husband was ill, I am so sorry , please forgive me
Nothing to forgive Anniebach nothing at all . You’ve got enough on your own plate to deal with and anyway we can’t all be on GN all the time can we.
But Gilly, i am so distressed that I am so wrapped in my grief and fear I didn't read of your worries , so I do ask you to forgive my selfishness if you can. I thought your post yesterday evening was a lighthearted comment and replied in kind. I must have hurt you .
Please don’t be Annie you’re stressing me out thinking about you stressing
I don’t think you’ve got a selfish bone in your body Annie and I need every lighthearted comment I can get ! I’m thinking that if I have a giggle then it’s better than being my usual miserable self !
DH is doing much better . He just won’t do what he’s bl**dy well told !
My posts were to illustrate that nobody is perfect and that people are capable of doing things that risk others eg smoking is a health hazard for passive smokers, people who go climbing unprepared risk accidents and have to be rescued by others, people may drive too soon after alcohol.
People do daft things. Ant did something stupid. He's also given millions of us pleasure over the years. He's just human. He got it wrong. 'Let he who is without sin cast the first stone' - ring a bell?
I have never said I am without sin * Jane10* far from it . ( for the record he hasn’t given me any pleasure but that’s by the by) .
Gilly, so I am stressing you by by me being stressed that I caused you distress ?. You know I care for you , I send you love and wish your husband a full recovery.
mmmm, perhaps you didn't tell me because you knew I would pray for you both ?
Could be Annie could be.
I’m a first class hypocrite anyway as I’ve never prayed so much in my life as I’ve prayed these last couple of weeks . Ssshhh don’t tell anyone though, let it just be between me, you and the man in the clouds
I have not defended drinking and driving but I was trouble by comments that this man is wealthy. Going straight into rehab etc. I really get troubled by - the tall poppy syndrome.
Where could this man have gone after news of the car crash hit the headlines ? The press would hound him, if he stayed in his own home , with family or friends the property would have been surrounded by the press and cameras .
Why understanding for the homeless with drug and or drink problems but not a man with a successful career? It does seem one has money one does not, addiction is an illness wealth has nothing to do with it.
Gilly, I guessed you have been, ?, the man in the clouds will listen , he has been listening to my rants for many a year . Last November I didn't want to live , him up there and GN got me through .
I have already prayed for you both , tough . ?
All the other stuff about Ant or anyone else doesn’t matter ie money or lack of ,famous or not. The fact is we all know drinking & driving is a No no. Best thing is not to take a car out in the first place ,get a taxi .
Jane10In my family when one of us did something mum had a fit at, my lovely granny used to say "broken noses alter faces...and circumstances alter cases* meaning everything should be taken into consideration before punishment was given. Its how I was raised and its how I have lived my life.Everything relevant has to be taken on board before we make a judgement .EVEN in cases of drink driving or murder .I also believe that anyone can do stupid things in the right/wrong set of circumstances and life isn't B/W.
Well said Jane and paddy. You put it so much better than I ever could!!
How absolutely ridiculous to say that we can’t criticise anyone because none of us is perfect - many threads on GN criticise others- of course they do. Ant has been in rehab before with drug problems, now we had about his alcohol dependency - I wonder if he informed the DVLA of these problems? I wouldn’t use the words foolish or stupid about drunk/ drugged drivers - they can and do ruin lives - he’s got the resources not to have to drive at all and yet he still does.
You are troubled by his wealth Maryeliza
I'm not maryeliza54 but for what it's worth, I'm not troubled by Ant's wealth. He's worked hard for it, deserves it and I sincerely hope it can help him get to grips with his abuse of prescription drugs and alcohol.
He's evidently always been a party animal, changing that won't be easy. Alcohol is a depressant. If he's combining it with serious pain relief, prescribed or otherwise - he\s going to be feeling bad most of the time. He isn't the first, won't be the last but it's over to Ant. At least he has the financial resources to buy the best help available. I hope he has the personal resources to engage with it and live a happier life. Plus - a life in which he doesn't take risks with the lives of others.
Hear hear Iam64!
I am quite sure he wishes and hopes for the same, no one ,poor or wealthy chooses to be an addict , it is not a life style choice.
he’s got the resources not to have to drive at all and yet he still does.
Yes - why?
He could afford a chauffeur.
That's my take on it. He has better resources than most people to stop driving if necessary.
I suppose the trouble is that the sort of problems he is having are denied, usually, until a crisis happens.
It’s bloody disgusting ab to say I’m troubled by his wealth- how bloody dare you- - what his wealth means is that he can buy the best help avsilable but what I’m troubled by is that he’s quite prepared to ruin the lives of innocents - he knows he’s got a problem and yet he’s not prepared to use his resources ( which are imo not hard earned but over paid) to sort himself out.
he knows he’s got a problem and yet he’s not prepared to use his resources ( which are imo not hard earned but over paid) to sort himself out.
That's not strictly true though is it? He has already been in rehab for his addiction to Tramadol and alcohol and has gone there again now, I expect as a private patient. And for the record: I heartily condemn drink driving, whether the perpetrator is rich or poor; famous or not; young or old and of any ethnicity, culture or creed.
Sadly He has behaved no differently than some other men who come from a entirely different set of circumstances & background, they do not get excused for drink driving by the general public, they are usually condemned & looked upon as irresponsible morons . There may be a huge difference in their situations but no difference in their behaviour. Doesn’t make either bad people, but can result in bad things happening, that's obviously why the drink /driving law was passed. He broke that law, but luckily not someone else’s life. At the very least we should not be attaching any justification to his choice of behaveiour. Hopefully this will be a very big wake up call for him & he will address his problems.
