My only surviving son (some may know that my DS 2 hanged himself in December 2008 at the age of 19) has not been in touch.

There are many feeling sad for a variety of reasons this Mothers Day and you may be glad when it is over.
Just a mention then for those who are acutely conscious of that “Dad-shaped space”
It took two to make a baby and we are missing him very very much.

so many sad messages here today. and mine too is sad. I returned to UK 4 years ago at my son and DIL's suggestion. She cannot stand me and says it is a problem for her even having me in the same town. Sadly I have no money to move! They live 20 mins walk from me. DS came round last night and brought a card and a small box of chocs. But I'm diabetic. He knows that. Could he ring me today? could he hell. and I haven't seen the grandkids for 3 years! I'll be glad when today is over.

I had an afternoon tea yesterday at my house, with a few friends and realities (all mothers) who, for various reasons, including bereavement and estrangement, were not going to see DC. It was probably bittersweet for some, but supportive, on what might be a sad day.
