a note of caution if you use mouth wash
I usually have one or two glasses at the weekend but rarely in the week. I do sometimes feel tempted in the week but as DH rarely drinks I don’t open a bottle for myself.
What about you.

Actually it won’t affect me as I like a good Californian or Chilean ?
My DH makes our wine ( as do many here). He has a glass every day (more at the weekend). I'm trying to have 2 or 3 days without during the week. Because our wine is homemade and pure it has no additives so you don't get the nasty after effects! Like in France people don't binge drink as much here as wine is part of the culture. Cheers ladies ( and gents)???
I have heard that GPs when they are asking how much a patient drinks, mentally double the answer!
We like a G& T a couple of times a week and drink a bottle or maybe 2 during the rest of the week but only with food. We have a Vacu-Vin pump cork so we usually only have a glass each time and put the bottle away for another time. .My husband doesn't always finish his so, frugal soul that I am, I put the rest in a jar in the fridge and cook with it. I'm nearly 74 and in good health so like Ann sixty and Urmstongran, I'm not going teetotal now. Might switch to Fever Tree sugar free tonic with my gin though to avoid putting on too much weight!
Who was it who said that if you abstain from sex, smoking and drinking you don’t live longer, it just feels like it?
I drink about one glass of wine a week, on average, usually with a Sunday roast. I’m on holiday at the moment and have had one a day, but when DH is working abroad I don’t open a bottle, so it evens out over the year.
I noticed that, when our children were younger, it was usually me that picked ours and others’ children up at the end of their evenings out. When I investigated the reason, it was because the other parents (DH included) had “had a drink”.
Perhaps that's my problem winterwhite !
I doubt if I drink two bottles of wine in a year ?
We have plenty of wine in the house just rarely open one.
Well, I am joining the reprobates on here! I have a small glass of sherry while watching Eggheads every evening and then OH and I will have a glass of wine each with our dinner. He often partakes at lunchtime as well, but I wait till the evening. At weekends we will have a nightcap before bed, a Cointreau or similar for me and he will have a scotch or a brandy. We are early 70s, and blood tests and organ functions are fine, so why not?
I’m always honest with my GP though, carolmary, so I’d be a bit narked if she doubled it! I do stick to the 14 units guideline in a normal week. But there are an awful lot of special weeks (holidays, birthdays, parties, celebrations) when I go over, often way over! I’d like to say it was my one indulgence, but it’s not.
WE drink wine and beer...usually if we go out every weekend.
Maybe I might have a glass or 2 on another day in the week if I go out with my girlfriends.
Most nights I have a whisky or a glass of wine. I’d like to have more but try not to. I’m aware I’m drinking too much but have no will power. I never drink when I have my grandchildren.
I’ll join the drinkers here. We have a vodka or G&T at the weekends, and sometimes in the week too if we fancy it. Wine the same, though we tend to keep that for the weekends. We try to have a few alcohol free days a week, but if we don’t, we won’t worry about it. As DH said the other day, it’s not as if we get legless! We enjoy it, we are healthy so why not?
Here it is considered perfectly healthy to drink a single glass of wine with a meal every day. We don't as DH has had a problem with binge drinking in the past, so we are normally completely t-total or stick to non-alcoholic beer.
If you can drink in moderation I do not think it can do you any harm.
What is necessary is to guard against one glass becoming many, but surely by our age, we all know whether we are tempted to go on drinking or not?
And we can't go through life wondering whether we would be within the legal limit if we needed to get to a hospital. If we have been drinking and an emergency arises, we will surely just need to phone for a taxi, if the situation is not grave enough to merit an ambulance?
I currently haven't had an alcoholic drink for about two weeks. I quite like a glass of wine or a cider now and then but it's not a regular feature of my life.
When we lived abroad we had a drink most nights but then we had a driver so weren't concerned about drink/driving.
Where we live now, we have no public transport and Scotland has much stricter drink/driving levels than England, so it's not worth taking a chance.
Fwiw, I feel neither up nor down and nor does eschewing alcohol make any difference to my weight, which is a bit annoying!
Apart from Dragonfly 46 you're all making feel very bad, don't think I'll own up to my drinking habits.
Every Friday night, lots of lovely Bacardi...
Probably nothing til the following Friday and on it goes.
I to have regular blood tests because of other things and no problems but lots of Bacardi on Friday night and I don’t look for it any other time. I enjoy a glass of red Malbec or smililar I f we are eating out but That’s s it really.
We use no salt, no butter, have plain chicken most nights, eat fruit, walk, drink plenty of water and do everything the doctors have advised over the years but one place DH draws the line is his evening glass or two of red. No beer, no spirits just wine. Be rude of me to let him drink on his own ? ?
I'm not owning up to mine either PennjyH
Ok I'll fess up to drinking on most nights a couple of glasses of wine and perhaps a G & T first bt I am trying to have a least a couple of nights without. Don't Drink at lunch or strangely enough in hot weather!! Dehydrates me almost immediately.
Gave up Coke last year - can I have a point for that.
I hardly ever drink. Just doesn't occur to me.
In my kitchen cabinet I have several bottles of wine, some Baileys, a souvenir bottle of Limoncello from Italy, and even a bottle of Absinthe from Croatia. All were gifts and are unopened.
The only two times I take a drink are at Christmas when my DIL makes Coquito (similar to eggnog); and when I visit my daughter in Ireland we'll split a bottle of Cava while we sit up most of the night laughing and catching up on things. Oh, and once when I was visiting, I caught the flu and my SIL insisted that a glass of hot poitin was all I needed to cure my ills! LOL
I usually consume a bottle of rose over a long weekend. One glass a night but usually end up tipping half of it out. I think I've just gone off alcohol. I really enjoyed several non alcoholic fruit drinks on holiday. Green apple, mint and basil was my favourite. Yummy.
I don't drink alcohol at all. When i was young I would have a glass of
Urmstongran I too enjoy a drink —or two— most evenings! G&T or sherry while getting dinner and we share about 3 bottles a week. To those living in lovely France, it would just be rude not to!
The drinking guidelines were thought up as a guess - there is no evidence on which they were based.
I find that I sleep better if I drink moderately - too much keeps me awake.
Cheers

Sorry, don't know what happened.
Wine, but my brute of a husband would use that as an excuse to use me as a punch bag, saying I was drunk. So I gave up having my one drink.
Between 3 and 5 glasses of wine a week usually - sometimes less and occasionally more. My husband rarely drinks - and never spirits.
At Christmas I like a vodka martini.
