I read this in today’s DT

If Candlemas be dry and bright
Winter will have another bite.
If Candlemas be grey and rain,
Winter will not come again.

And yes, it is dry and sunny today!

Although...suddenly now I’m wondering how “dry stane dyke” came to be the term for a stone wall...

A”dyke” may be a ditch in the Fens, but it is a wall in Scotland. Dimples!

If you can see the Wrekin, it's going to rain. And if you can't see the Wrekin, it's already raining.

Mackerel sky, mackerel sky
Not long wet, not long dry.

Red sky at night shepherds delight.
Means fine and dry

Red sky in the morning sailor's warning.
Means rain or storm

Or the Home Counties version
“Red sky at night, the gazebo’s alight
Red sky in the morning, it’s spread to the awning.”
