Red sky at night shepherds delight.
Means fine and dry

Red sky in the morning sailor's warning.
Means rain or storm

Mackerel sky, mackerel sky
Not long wet, not long dry.

If you can see the Wrekin, it's going to rain. And if you can't see the Wrekin, it's already raining.

A”dyke” may be a ditch in the Fens, but it is a wall in Scotland. Dimples!

Hello, annsixty! Can you explain "February fildyke" to me? It's in a song lyric that I'm performing around Christmas, and while I assume it's a type of precipitation, I'll feel better if I know what it actually means while singing it! Also...new member, first post, so please be gentle!

A neighbour used to use the term 'damping in the wind' when it was just about to drizzle.
My mum used to say 'it's the fairies moving their furniture' when there was thunder and lightning and I as a little one used to try to guess what furniture was being moved!!

January brings the snow,

I can put up with the cold provided my central heating is working!
