I have just been reading an article on couples who have been married for a long time. We were married 55 years ago, last September, and I cannot for the life of me remember what my wedding shoes looked like!! My dress, yes, headress, yes, the flowers arriving and being put in the bath to keep cool. Even what I had for dinner, before getting dressed in all my finery before going to Church. But my shoes, NO. I can see my going away outfit, suit, gloves, and yes even those lovely shoes, so why can't I recall my wedding shoes? I presume that I did wear some. wink. Any one else got a blind spot in their memory of a, supposedly, memorable occasion?

DM bought my wedding dress long white and very traditional. She also bought me a pair of floppy sensible white shoes to wear which I hated! I secretly returned them and bought a pair of very high heeled white sandals in expensive Italian leather from a smart shoe shop on Oxford Street. DM called me a silly girl as I'd spent a large proportion of my wedding savings on them. My dad said they looked beautiful! On my wedding day I felt like a million dollars in those shoes and wore them for many years after.

We had a registry office wedding, can remember what I wore, who came etc but for the life of me I can’t remember where we spent our wedding night! I will say he is my ex now.

Made me nostalgic reading all these wedding memories so I found photos of my three weddings.
It is interesting to see how fashion has changed.

Makes me quite tearful. All the things that have happened since that day. Never to be repeated
Sorry having a sad day ☹️

I designed my long white satin empire length wedding dress with a very long detatchable train (so it could be converted into an evening dress). The fabric and dressmaker's fee came to £14 (about a week's pay for me in 1966).

I wore my long hair up in an elaborate bouffet style, encased in a headress which I made from a criss-cross of pipe cleaners covered in stain ribbon and sprigs of artifcial rosebuds and lily-of-the valley, attached to a long silk chiffon veil. I wore white satin court shoes with very pointy toes.

Eventually I made the dress into an evening dress and the train and veil were cut up to make a Christening dress for our children. I still have the pipecleaner head-dress stowed away somewhere.
