My Turn?

Having just changed the loo roll for the umpteenth time, it made me wonder why it was always my turn to do so?
It's also my turn to wash the saucepans - DH's domain is "his" dishwasher; I'm not allowed to load it as I do it "wrong"!
But it is also my turn to fold the clean towels, etc. We are both retired. OK he does the bill paying but it is not relentless day to day stuff.
Whinge over! grin

I don't mind people being witty but not everyone has a sense of humour or gets irony.
There are persons in my other life who just don't get humour, take everything as a serious and cannot see around what has been said and starts a long discussion to put me right. Which is quite miserable.

Blownupdolly, one of my friends who is in a wheelchair says one of the perks is that nobody expects her to care for her elderly mother. smile
On the other hand she was was waiting for me on the pavement outside a cafe and and all the cars stopped so she felt obliged to cross the road and wait till they had gone before crossing back again!

Now, girls, stop bickering - would you really have him any other way? Mine's going out of the top floor window before he's much older. He's impossible, but he's my impossible.
Everything in my house is my fault or DS'. He couldn't possibly be being difficult just for the sake of it, could he?

I've been waiting for the old joke, "How many men does it take to change a loo roll. No one knows, it's never been done".

DotMH1901 Mon 11-Sept-17 11:22:09

Grandmattie - I know what you mean! I live with my daughter and three grandchildren aged 8,10 and 14. I am, it seems, the only person who can change the toilet roll in both bathrooms, replace the hand towels ditto, put a new handwash out (and remove the old bottle) and empty the little bin under the sink. I saw this on Youtube and thought - that's my life exactly smile www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1_QTm-wpsY

I loved the OP descriptions and chuckled. Then the awful comment that followed on what I read to be a witty post.

Dot (if I may be so rudely familiar as to shorten your username) ... soooo funny! Thank you! grin

glynis1234 Mon 11-Sept-17 11:33:23

Thankful I have a loo roll to change.

ajanela Mon 11-Sept-17 11:42:58

I also don't load the dishwasher correctly. Pots if left to him all go in the dishwasher.

But as I live in his country and he rightly believes when shopping I don't get the best, he does most of the shopping, cooking, dealing with household repairs and bills etc, I can at least change a toilet roll.

But grandMattie the principle is they do what they like doing and you get stuck with the rest.

Dot - I was just going to post that Youtube clip. I think I first saw it from a link here on GN.

I wouldn't mind DH not doing jobs around the house if at least he did the jobs such as mending the fridge door, seeing to the lighting in the bathroom and kitchen (they're incorporated into the ceiling) and various other jobs which so obviously need doing.

If only he would shut cupboard doors after him. I come into the kitchen and think - I only need to open 3 more drawers and doors and they are ALL open.

I fill a small basket with toilet rolls that stand by the toilet.
The toilet roll holder had detached itself from the tiles waiting to be fixed back No takers yet on that.

Stirring marnie??

I loved the OP descriptions and chuckled. Then the awful comment that followed on what I read to be a witty post.

Love the bickering, very entertaining. xx

nellgwin Mon 11-Sept-17 12:16:08

MawBoon you have a Big Problem.

pinkjj27 Mon 11-Sept-17 12:25:53

I am a widow but I thought the post was funny its so true especially about the dish washer what is it with men and loading the dish washer?. Put the roll roll on the wrong way around he will then turn it back . Men!! Cant live with them and its horrible without them.

tigger Mon 11-Sept-17 12:26:16

Don't think it's a case of life not being fair, that one has been done to death. I empathise with grandmattie, I too seem to be always the one who empties the dishwasher, puts the bins out, cleans up the crap etc.etc. And yes MawBoon your post did come across as sanctimonious.

grannybuy Mon 11-Sept-17 12:36:26

I can see both sides. Due to my DH's PD, I am now doing more or less everything. I remind myself, that if I was single, I'd be doing it all anyway- though not the point here, I know. However, though life is very difficult, eg sometimes being up and down all night, it still has humorous moments, like being 'frisked' in bed at 400am because DH is looking for the hidden camera which he insists is somewhere. Mainly very sad, but with comedic moments.

MawBroon Mon 11-Sept-17 13:05:58

Oo-er missus tigger well at the risk of further flak for caring seeming sanctimonious , may I commend this scheme to any who are interested in a wider issue.

MawBroon Mon 11-Sept-17 13:07:28

Oh dear nellGwin, would you like to elaborate on that, perhaps tell me what my "Big Problem" is?

Direne3 Mon 11-Sept-17 13:18:43

My sister has a lovely little plaque in her kitchen 'No-one notices what I do until I don't do it' - very true in her house. grin

illtellhim Mon 11-Sept-17 13:45:12

Oh dear, now listen, I've told you before, if its too heavy make 2 trips, said OH.

MawBroon Mon 11-Sept-17 13:46:32

gringrin
All heart your OH!

tigger Mon 11-Sept-17 13:57:53

Oh dear MawBroon give us a break, no need for sarcasm, your problem seems to be assumptions, what makes you think I am a "missus". No, I would not like to read your link my interests are much wider. This began as a light hearted thread and you have helped develop it into a forum mauling aka keyboard warrior. "If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen".

Outtawork Mon 11-Sept-17 14:03:59

l was gobsmacked this weekend, my grandson (14) stayed over & replaced the toilet roll & it was the right way as well.
:-)

gmelon Mon 11-Sept-17 14:07:34

I hide the toilet rolls.
Then like one of the major supermarkets say "when it's gone it's gone".
He soon asks where some is, and replaces it.
As for the empty cardboard middle being left on the bathroom shelf, I move it. Not to the bin but into his toolbox.
Strangely once he finds it in there he can manage to put it in the bin.
Most things with men are a bit like the controlled crying for getting babies to sleep through.
You have to grit your teeth and think what end result you are after.
