New Royal Baby

Having more than two is a very bad example to set in our over populated world .

We have a Monarchy in this country and that is not going to change anytime soon. William and Kate are having another baby, jolly good luck to them. They are not like you and me, they were born into their life, they didn't choose it. Why all the nastiness on this thread. We are all entitled to our own views and don't deserve some of the vitriol handed out.

I was very happy to hear they are having another baby & wish them well. What saddened me is that the Pregnancy has been announced early (before 12 weeks) due to Public Pressure, how will those of you saying William & Kate shouldn't have another baby feel if she Miscarries???

I believe it's really none of our business how many children they choose to have, after all Victoria had 9 !!

The only thing that has angered me is all those talk about Diana, how delighted she would etc. I don't think she would have liked having a DiL taking centre stage, for heavens sake the woman wasn't a saint. Can't we concentrate on the living GPs & GGPs

Having done a quick search it appears that William and Kate do not receive money from the taxpayer. They receive payment from the Duchy of Cornwall which is owned by Charles (and which pays tax). The Queen does make payment from the money paid to her for their travel on official visits.

I understand the frustration re the monarchy. However, I don't see that as a reason for the nastiness and that's what it is. This young couple are as much a victim of their own circumstances as anyone else. They're having a baby - a new little, precious life.

Glammanana started a thread congratulating a couple on their news. The thread deteriorated to include world population, Diana in a disparaging way, they were called scroungers, etc etc. It just leaves a bad taste.

It's not just this one thread. I've seen it in quite a few. This thread was the catalyst for me. My heart sinks when I read the nastiness so I choose not to. It's really as simple as that. Debate is healthy, but...

I thought we in the U.K. needed more young people, as the population is top-heavy with older folk? My own daughter is pregnant at the moment. As far as I am aware, no one has informed her that she will only be allowed to have two children. Nor has anyone in real life told her she's a brood mare.

I've no issue with anyone being anti-monarchy, that's a perfectly legitimate position to hold. I am reminded, though, that my mother always said that any debate that descends to childish name-calling or personal abuse has essentially been lost.

I hold the same views of politics etc, too. It's fine to debate the principles, it's not fine to rain abuse on the individuals involved.

Juney64 - pity you're flouncing but I do understand why. The level of unpleasant comments directed at a young couple who are delighted to be expecting a third baby is well, very unpleasant.
We have a monarchy. Some people would prefer us to have a Republic but that doesn't seem to be supported by the majority of the population in the UK. William grew up knowing he'd be expected to replace his father as king at some future date. He knows has has no choice but live his life in public view and has to try and establish a suitable and responsible role within that. It's a given he can do all of that without worrying if he and Kate can afford baby 3, pay the electricity, mortgage etc. I wouldn't swop my life for his and I don't know anyone who would.
I was pleased when I heard the announcement, felt sorry when it became clear it was only announced because Kate's illness means she can't go out in public for fear of vomiting over folks. I wish them well and can't imagine being so mean spirited that I didn't.
I am not happy with the proposal that benefits for families with over 2 children should stop, in case anyone suggests I am brainwashed by the Royals and don't care about ordinary folk. I'm an ordinary folk, with ordinary children and grandchildren.

I'm very happy for them, but don't envy Katherine the weeks of feeling pretty rough. Not pleasant, however much help you have.

I think it's great for William to be part of the Middleton family. OK they have their faults, but they seem a close and loving supportive family.

good grief, money controls where one spends holidays, what size house one can afford to buy or rent, where one buys ones clothes , schooling for one's children , even where one grocery shops, Always will be so. There is no law declaring how many children people may have depending on their race and class.

Juney64 don't go. We're not all as mean spirited as some of the posts would have you believe. Most of us are happy to hear a piece of nice news in this horrible world.

Why don't you all stop whinging about the Cambridges and be grateful that we have such a brilliant royal family. Most other countries in this world would be so pleased to have anything like them instead of all the mad leaders we hear about. Instead of shouting "it's not fair" remember that life is not, and never has been fair. Life is about making the best of what we have.

I am a republican, and I bare the couple no ill will of any kind if they are choosing, or accidentally having another child. I hope all goes well for them as I would hope for all young couples.

They are a very privileged family, and they are part of this country's head of state. A simple fact.

I would vote to change this, if I could, but I think that is some way off yet - the monarchy, for the moment is what the UK's establishment chooses for us to represent us and this country. Maybe some day some political leader will have the courage to suggest we might want to consider voting for a head of state, as I believe was the case in medieval days.

For now, these two young kids have another child on the way - let's hope they don't claim paternity, maternity leave, or family allowance. That would make a mockery of the principal of a monarchy, surely?

60+ years ago we had King, Queen and 2 princesses. Now we have Queen, 7 Princes, 4 Princesses 2 Duchesses and 1 Countess. (I might have missed a few I'm no expert) But quite frankly I think we have enough Royal family and it's time they were reduced in number. Maybe some of them could go and get proper jobs and we could just keep a few. I certainly don't see why we need them all.

Why not just start a 'we hate the Royal family' thread and leave the rest of us to be happy to hear about a new baby being expected? Put it in the political topics so you can all agree with each other about it.

there are always those who are happy to believe these people are somehow superior .......how sad is that.I would far rather we looked after all our elderly in the way Lizzie and Phil have been looked after and saw ALL young families able to have decent lives without foodbanks zero hours contracts and be able to afford a home of their own instead of the aristocracy who got there by NO hard work or merit getting it all handed to them on aplate.If you dont like others having a different opinion to you dont join a thread that is contentious...the monarcy and their offspring is hardly likely to be the most popular of subjects

We would all like to see what you listed, it will never be so, are all the elderly going to receive private health care, all young families have the same income?

Actually it is a very popular topic among the majority of the population-and in a positive and non contentious sense. People did not come on this thread for a argument. Or did they?

William and Kate would be a well off couple even without his position in the royal family. He had a career in the forces and is a qualified helicopter pilot, which is a well paid job.

She comes from a family who made their own money (but some people don't like the Middletons for that, either - you can't do right for doing wrong) and would no doubt have a good job somewhere.

I must say, I wouldn't want to be royal for all the tea in China, nor would I want my children to marry into royalty.

Paddyann would looking after your elderly relatives in the way Lizzie and Phil have been looked after include sending them on an endless round of dreary factories and schools in their 80s and 90s? I'd rather have less looking after and spend my days doing what I want.

I'm happy to congratulate any young couple who expect the blessing of a child, but I am fed up to the back teeth with the saccharine pap plastered all over the media. It seems a matter of great wonder to the press that Royalty can procreate just like common people!

Where is all this stuff in the media? I've seen it mentioned on online newspaper websites and it's been mentioned on social media but apart from the initial news, I haven't clicked on anything else to read about it.

I don't watch much tv so maybe that's why I don't see these things, and probably why I don't know who many of the current celebs are, either!
