My daughter-in-law has four children and she had them 'cos she loves kids. I think she would be insulted to be labelled a 'brood mare.'
If you can have and afford kids, why not?

New Royal Baby
(154 Posts)Just heard the news this morning a new baby due for William & Kate next year I hope she stays well as she suffered with the last two pregnancies.Sending congratulations.
How can anyone be so mean spirited not to wish them well. I think it's lovely news especially with the spectre of Nuclear war hovering over the world.
Yeh well we all know who'll be first in the bunker!
It is a bit awkward coming right on top of the announcement that they were taking on full Royal duties but I suppose thats life. I expect Prince William will just carry on with all his work and Kate will join in when the sickness settles down. Good luck to them, specially with the school run.
Anniebach - 'he did work for 40 hours a month as a helicopter pilot'! Nice working hours if you can get them eh! And now he has the usual Royal schedule of shaking hands and smiling 3 days a week, for 5 months a year, whilst taxpayers money keeps them all in the style in which they are all accustomed. I have nothing against them as individuals. After all they were born into this archaic system, which is ridiculous in the modern world and incompatible with democracy. However, it's time the system was retired, they took their huge wealth and lived privately. The NHS, education and our Police force and grossly underfunded and failing. Ordinary British people are, at times relying on food banks and we are still fawning over this over-privileged family!
How bitter you sound paddyann in a lot of your posts. I just wish her well as I would any other expectant mother.
I think Paddyann's post is spot on! Not bitter, just pointing out the reality!
not bitter at all carol1954 just not a royalist....honestly why do people fawn over this bunch of misfits and whinging scroungers ..beats me.People their age would love even a fraction of the income baldy willie and his wife take home ...and most young people work damn hard ..unlike them .Like I said if this was any family from your street or mine, working when it suited them and holidaying on other peoples money ..the country would be up in arms.
now a wee aside,it appears that Lizzie gets massive EU subsidies for her "estates" ,over £675,000 for ONE of them ,will the taxppayer be expected to fork out once Brexit has happened? If we,the taxpayers are ..are you happy about THAT ..too
I feel sorry for you.
- I do too
Because paddyanne doesn't worship at the shrine of the Windsors! Well that's one of the most ridiculous things I've read in a long time. I feel much sorrier for all the people who are posting about how wonderful it is and how lovely they are. They're over privileged brats and why on earth should anyone congratulate them for breeding? Be brainwashed if you like but don't think we all have to fall for it. It's not a question of being bitter it's actually a question of using your brain and not accepting the propaganda.
Mawbroon The monarchy have one main object and that is to ' keep it going' Hence why the choice of who should be the chosen 'brood mare' is left to the reigning monarch
Camilla Parker Bowles although the love of Charles life was not considered 'suitable' consequently like a lamb to the slaughter Lady Diana Spencer was to be the one.
I do not believe William would have waited so long before he married Kate Middleton, it was left to the reigning monarch as to whether she would be 'suitable' in which to produce an heir and spares You may be sure no stone was left unturned.
Kate was ten years older than Princess Diana when she married an heir, consequently youth was not so much on her side and its up to Kate and William to get a move on
Kate is thirty five and had George at thirty one. Diana was twenty one when she had William.
Having suffered morning sickness I was given tablets that were later known to be responsible for causing defects ie thalidomide in children.I was fortunate and had healthy babes.
I sympathise with Kate and hope this price we pay for having a child will soon pass.
I don't wish them any harm , but for them to have another when others have been told twos enough and as for them being able to afford them don't forget we help support them. It's rough Kate as what I know to be horrible sickness she is lucky that she doesn't have to worry about getting up with other children or worry about work like ordinary mums. I just hope William steps up to take on more duties to help his grandma because I haven't seen him or Harry doing much lately .
Totally agree with you paddyann and trisher . I couldn't care less about another "royal" baby. So what?
Breeding? Is this what we woman do when we have our children?
This constant talk of brood mares, have they never heard of unexplained infertility?
Diana was certaintly anxious 'to breed' she said she always had the feeling she had to keep herself tidy , a premonition or she was in on the arrangement?
I don't think I like this site any more.
'Baldy willy'. Really?
Brood mare?
'why on earth should anyone congratulate them for breeding?' Isn't that what Grans do on Gransnet?
Gransnet guidelines say to speak to people as you would do face to face. I wouldn't spend time with people in my day-to-day life with such vitriol so won't spend my time here reading it. Opinions are one thing but my goodness.
Thanks to the few GN's who've been fun, courteous and informative. To the others, let me say this before you do...
Yes, I'm flouncing. (I call it leaving but I know how this works).
I won't let the door hit me on the way out.
I'll make good my own riddance.
No, I won't delude myself into thinking this will matter.
Right, I'm off to email GN to ask for my account to be deleted. Pastures new, here I come.
paddyann before you spit fire and brimstone about how the Brit taxpayer subsidises the 'scrounging royals' you watch a present morning tv programme on the amount the man in the street is dishonestly claiming and we the unsuspecting taxpayers are subsidising.
No they are not the genuine disabled/homeless but those who know how to 'cook the books' .
Two separate things, a couple are having a child , cruel to say they are breeding.
The wealth of the monarchy is unknown, just there is rather a nice little egg nest tucked away.
I'm not sure if you will still be around to read this but I don't think you should take it all the comments so literally Juney64. I don't think anyone means anything nasty at all I just think some people (like me) get sick of hearing about these people who do nothing to earn their extremely over privileged lifestyle and then try to pretend that they are "an ordinary young couple" which of course they are not.
Most young couples of their age are both working long hours in full time demanding roles, struggling along, juggling their work and child care dashing home to make dinner, sorting the washing, cleaning and crikey knows what else. I personally don't care whether they have 10 children as long as the tax payers don't have to contribute to their luxurious lifestyles.
Hear, hear Gillybob!
I'm not an ardent royalist and my comment was on the general content of paddyann's posts. But I think a lot of the posts on this subject have been nasty - it's nasty to be told to use your brains just because you don't agree with somebody's point of view and it's nasty to call people cheap names like brood mare and baldy willie.
MawBroon The monarchy have one main object and that is to ' keep it going' Hence why the choice of who should be the chosen 'brood mare' is left to the reigning monarch
I am not sure why this has been addressed to me but I am sorry to say SHW that I think it irrelevant tosh
I find it distasteful to refer to a young mother as a "brood mare" and think some posters need to extricate themselves from the current "Victoria" TV series and venture into the 21st century.
So they are having a baby. Good luck to them! That is what families do.
I do not think antiRoyalist arguments are called for, nor arguments about population explosions.
Does anybody admit to a similar response when GN members proudly share the news about expected grandchildren?
No?
Then don't be so churlish!
I too am surprised at the amount of vitriol being aimed at a young couple and their unborn child. Yes, they are privileged but that doesn't excuse the name calling. By all means disagree with the institution of the monarchy but what is being posted is pure hatred - not a pleasant trait.
Anyone would think the thread was about Fred and Rosemary West. It does seem rather over the top.
