I hear about this all the time on the local mum's facebook group. I didn't understand what it was and once I did find out, I was horrified. It's just plain wrong.

Sorry, kitty and others.

Also whatever happened to snapping a photo of your child on his or her her birthday yourself? [roll eyes emoticon]

I love the colours on your DGD's Bella! smile

There are photos of my grandparents, parents and my generation having been taken in a studio while they/we were babies. Not a huge difference really. The wealthy had portraits and miniatures painted!

I agree, kitty. Life is so blooming short, what is wrong with having something that adds a bit of joy to it? Each to their own, of course, and I was a bit surprised when I first heard about it, but really think it is rather lovely. Unfortunately, a lot of people seem to be prejudiced against anything American, but c'est la vie.confused

Can't any cake be a "smash cake" they aren't made of steel after all. If people are stupid enough to buy one then that says it all.

I'm all for kids playing with their food though.

A generation who will never have to worry about where the next meal is coming from?

Sorry, I really don't get it although pictures of babies and toddlers in a mess because they are learning to eat and getting it everywhere can be funny.

I'll join the grumpy brigade on this one.

Bellasnana that is a lovely birthday photo, however I would prefer that to maybe an 'after' shot when her cute little face was covered in blue cake.grin

On seeing children with food all over their faces and hands.....I don't like it ( and was faced with one last week , having a pub lunch out) I had to try and not look as it was off putting when just about to eat!
