Which would you choose - urinals or cubicles?

I have used the mens toilets because the women's toilets always have a queue and the women always have any children the family have , with them, of course they do.
My workplace introduced mixed toilets many years ago. The women revolted within a week - the smell and the puddles of urine on the floor, the lids never put down, I could go on but I'm sure you're all familiar with it. I've no problem with transgender women using the women's toilets, I'd always use the one without a urinal, especially if I'd children with me. It's a more complex issue than the OP suggests, I wish it wasn't.

Couldn't bear the smell. I'd just have to wait.

If there were an attendant keeping an eye out for troublemakers and cleaning as needed, public loos would be safer and smell better, but it would cost money to do and the price of a pee would go up.

There could be a clearly labelled smaller room with just a wall urinal (flushed vigorously and often - incidental shoe-washinbg included at no extra cost) and handbasins, for men wanting a quick stand-up pee, and a larger unisex room with cubicles (partitions up to the ceiling and no gaps above or below the doors, to foil snoopers), handbasins and child-changing facilities and someone in attendance. That would cater for males, females and transgender people of all descriptions to have privacy, while protecting the safety of lone women - and also the safety of lone youngsters. It would provide extra employment, too.

Good idea, I agree about extra employment. One of my preoccupations is the benefit of conductors on public transport, park attendants, just for starters. It makes life safer, provides employment and increases the possibility of positive communication.

I agree absolutely with both of you - but councils haven't got the money, and no matter which party you support, neither of the main ones is going to give them the wherewithal.

Yes, toilet attendants and the sixpenny wash and brush up ( remember that sign?)
Loos need to be gender specific for the comfort of all.

I was once at a concert where there was a massive queue for the Ladies during the interval, In the end a group of us took over the Gents, although we did let one poor chap join us because he was in the choir and only had a couple of minutes to get back on stage,

Keep toilets separate wherever possible,
Some Men wee on the floor!
Don't know why but they do.

I would also feel obliged to remind them (men) to Wash their hands!

Ladies toilets are required for important things such as make up touch ups and quick chat.

If I'm desperate then either. If I can take my time cubicles any time.

I am with Shysal on this one. Like Galen though I have had the experience of mixed loos when I have been abroad, didn't like it much but when in Rome, and all that ....

Why cant we just have Ladies and Gents ? there really is no need to change it

As someone who used to go home to go to the loo when I worked in a factory full of men with only one toilet I'd hate it. I have enough problems 'going' if there's someone in the next cubicle as it is and usually wait for the next door one to flush or the hand drier to come on. If it was a man in there my bladder would shut down completely They introduced women's urinals at festivals a few years ago for use with the various 'she wees' available - they were worse than the portaloos with paper, rubbish etc all over and you have to practically get undressed to use them so not very discreet!
