Names never to return?

Dad's name was Morgan Lincoln and we have a Young child called Rupert in our town

My gran's name was Augusta always known as Daisy, and I seem to recall she had a friend called Lettice. My dad's second name is Edgar, my second name is Jennifer - I have a step-granddaughter called Jennifer as well and her sister's second name is Eileen which was her great grandmother's name. I also know a Hettie short for Henrietta who is in her teens.

I also used to know a Gwenllian. Lots of the names mentioned were family names - nice to see them.

Dh and I are Clive and Elaine, definitely not popular now. We have a DGD Mary and a DGS Henry, though. Some friends have a baby grandson called Rex.

Pamela, Evelyn, Sandra, Marion, Celia, Barbara? Graham, Adrian, Terence, Robert? Haven't heard those names for a good while.

I've heard Piper before and I know of at least two young Ruperts.

Re. Gwlythyn. It could be another way of spelling "Gwlithyn'', which means "dewdrop" It often happened years ago when people had liked a name that they had heard but not seen written down.

My DGS is Brandon, DGS 2 expected in May has a name but DD isn't telling. Irene is my 1st name but I've never been called that, always know by my middle name, causes confusion when I have to put my name on official forms. My DM is Edna, my DD wanted a middle name & decided on Emily which was my Granny's name.

A name that doesn't seem to have come back is Alan. In my younger days I had a crush on Alan Ladd (film star) and decided if I ever had a boy he would be Alan. Ended up having two daughters! I now know there is a female version Alana, but I hadn't heard of it when my girls were born. My Grandson is Harry, which is very popular now, it is also a family name for the boys in our family, ranging from Henry to Harry. His two best friends at school are Albert and Max, they are all 5yrs old!

I had an Uncle called Hector. My grandmother was Gertrude too Badenkate. Norma is an old fashioned name too. Oh yes, and my father was Donald.

My grandma used to know a family called Rose who named their daughter Wilde, which is pretty - Wilde Rose. Unfortunately when she grew up she married a man whose surname was Bull!

My elder DGD (she's 5 in 11 days) has a girl in her class called London.

Thirty years ago there was a boy in DS2's class called London - he was American!

Just remembered , I know a 5 year old Evelyn. A friend has two DGS called Lincoln and Kenton. When I worked at a school the most unusual name was a boy called Zin Zan. Something to do with a rugby player I believe.

The lovely lady undertaker in my wee Scottish Borders town is called Walterina.

I'm on someone's old fashioned list too! My friend is called Patience - I've never heard of another one of those. Her sister was Ann!

Among my dgc there is a Hattie (Harriet Martha), Lottie (Charlotte Ivy), Bertie (Albert George) and Persie (Persephone Grace)

Seems quite a lot of us have Harriets, it appears in mine and DH's family tree at regular intervals.
I had an aunt that was known by a nickname for so long that I didn't know her name was Edith until I was in my late thirties. I had a great aunt Hettie but she was not Henrietta and all attempts at finding her birth and marriage records have drawn a blank. We have seen all the rest of the family on 1911 census but can't find her, I would say she was a foundling except she was the spitting image of my grandmother.

mb I think adding 'ina' to form a diminutive was quite a popular Scottish tradition a couple of generations ago and some weren't too unusual eg Williamina or Georgina..
Many were shortened to Ina and I've come
across a few of these. When asked what her full name was one acquaintance turned out to be Thomasina and another was Jamesina.
Mind you I'd guess there were very few Walterinas!

My piano teacher (for the short time that I was learning) was called Mercy.
